Barca vs. Chelsea!!!

Man, what a game!! I'm so glad I took and extra extra extended lunch to watch it!

Whew, first half. Very close, back and forth, both sides had lot's of chances. Then Chelsea got the red card. Looked a bit controvesial, but not sure. Then right before half time Barca should've gotten a penalty kick on a handball of a shot from Marquez (that guy had an awesome game!). Second half, Chelsea did well to hold off Barca and keep possession, then got lucky to score off an own goal by Barca. Then Barca had a few chances in a row, finally converting on the Ronaldinho free kick, then had a ton more that they just barely missed. Seemed like Chelsea was getting tired. Suprised they only used 2 subs (I think maybe I missed one).. Then Barca struck again off an amazing combination, started by of course Ronalidinho again. He is incredible! Can't be stopped. Ronaldinho to Larsson, to Marquez, first times it to Eto'o who heads it in!

Go Barca!

really good game, barcelona is just amazing, i heard from somewhere that henry might be joining the team.

Re: Barca vs. Chelsea!!!

Fucking referee ruined the game imo...sure, it was a hard tackle, but red card material, no way! Even our pussy refs over here wouldn´t make that decision...

Amazing entrance by Chelsea in the 2nd half, it´s hard enough beating Barca with 11, let alone 10 players, and still they managed to dominate the 1st 15 minutes.

With all that money, why can´t Mourinho buy a decent striker??? I mean, Drogba misses an incredible opportunity to make it 2-1 right before Barca´s 2nd. Henry wouldn´t miss that!

Not saying the result isn´t fair, which it is, but the ref messed up the balance with an idiotic decision. And I believe Chelsea might still turn this one around.

Why v.s.?! When they go hand in hand to make a good meal? :P

Yeah good game, I was following Inter (my fave team) v.s. Ajax game. I was losing hope by the 2nd half lol, finally they drawed 2 - 2, at least to save ourselves a bit. :P

Re: Barca vs. Chelsea!!!

just watched the match, very entertaining.

first of all, the sending off was a total shocker. i have no problems as a chavski hater saying that the referee got that completely wrong, a booking maybe, but a red card was a massive overreaction and terrible decision.

but i think barca would have won any way... they controlled the first half from the start and messi looked amazing, running rings around everyone. him and ronaldinho looked a different class to barca. in the second half chelski started bright, but after scoring they just couldnt keep barca out any more basically. should be an entertaining 2nd leg.

Re: Barca vs. Chelsea!!!

well it was almost inevitable there would be a dispute at some point, you could just feel it... it seems in the big games chelsea always feel robbed. last year vs barca they felt cheated as drogba got ejected (never saw the game unfortunately so I can't comment). Then in their loss to liverpool they claimed the goal by garcia never crossed the line.

But yea, I was watching the whole game without sound since I was at some restaurant bar, so I got to sort of watch without being influenced by the commentators, but I was definitely suprised that he got the straight red... although when you watch in real time, it looks like a massive hit on messi. It was unlucky on Chelsea's part, I think, because it was all at such fast pace, no one had time to get out of anyone elses way...

But the advantages went both ways I think. I saw two clear fouls in the penalty box, one just before half was the handball, the other in the second half john terry leveled messi, then handled the ball with his arms.

But I agree, Ronaldinho is in a class of his own, and Messi played amazing as well. Can't wait to see what they are like at the Camp Nou. Ronnie was keeping it away from 2, even 3 guys at certain points. That's why I love watching barca play, it's like watching an athletic genius at the top of his game...

I don't know how people can say soccer is boring if they watch a game like that.

the drogba sending off was harsh, it was for two bookings, and the second was for minimal contact with the keeper challenging for a ball. and after a bazillion replays, i still absolutely do not think the ball crossed the line against liverpool (keep in mind that i am a spurs fan and was rooting for liverpool in that game, i hate chelski)
But yea, I was watching the whole game without sound since I was at some restaurant bar, so I got to sort of watch without being influenced by the commentators, but I was definitely suprised that he got the straight red... although when you watch in real time, it looks like a massive hit on messi. yeah, and thats what the ref said too, said it looks way nastier in real time, and i'd agree, but i still think a red was very harsh. that being said, it was probably a booking for sure, and del horno was extremely lucky not to get at least that for the tackle before on messi when he connected with his knee - that one could have been a straight red imo.
But the advantages went both ways I think. I saw two clear fouls in the penalty box, one just before half was the handball, the other in the second half john terry leveled messi, then handled the ball with his arms.
completely agree, those definately should have been penalties, for both handballs and for the foul on messi.

yup, ronaldinho was toying with them at the end there, and messi just ran rings around them, what a player he is!

its because they are used to thrill a second sports like baseball :what

Re: Barca vs. Chelsea!!!

amazing contest and del horno went in with the studs up. if messi didnt jump he was fucked. Very good decision by the ref.

and as for Maureen. Im sick of listening to him. I used to get a good laugh out of him but if I was a chelsea fan at the moment i would be embarrased by him calling on sky to to repeat the del horno challenge and say it was wrong and saying after the game we can not talk about the football we can only talk about messi diving. has he forgotten about what robben did against us a couple of weeks ago. maggot

i disagree with the del horno thing... it was a clumsy challenge, and messi jumping put del horno's boot closer to contact with the knee, which it didnt make. the one before, on the edge of the box, which the ref completely missed, was studs up to knee, and a bad challenge. but yeah, how quickly moronho forgets... shame on him.

best players on the pitch: marquez, messi, ronaldinho, and terry for chelsea (would probably have been 4 or 5-1 if he hadnt saved chelsea a number of times at the end

As I suspected.

Well, I´m really disappointed in you guys...:D ;) . I hate Benfica and you managed to lose against them last Tuesday. Wtf was up with that? Is it just me or did Benitez think he´d win easily or just played for a 0-0 draw (he left Gerrard on the bench!). The whole team seemed, to me, like they had an extremely arrogant attitude towards Benfica...that might cost you dearly, man! Don´t disappoint me again!;)

In fact, last few years, English teams have always had very bad luck against any Portuguese team (or coach, in the case of Maureen). Losing in the Euro 2000 and Euro 2004 championships, Benfica beating ManUre and Liverpool this year, Sporting (my team!) thrashing Newcastle and Middlesborough last year, and so on, so on...

Re: Barca vs. Chelsea!!!

we are having serious problems in front of goal this season. Put our strikers on paper - cisse, morientes, fowler, crouch and it looks impressive but put them on the pitch and they are useless. all our goals are coming from the midfield. stevie g picked up an injury in the warm up but will be ok for the weekend. Im going over to see the 2nd leg, it will be a special european night in anfield and we have it all to do but I think we can beat them if the attitude is right which it will be. In fairness to benitez he started with 4 attacking players and we controlled the game but there were too many under par performances. dont wory mate we wont disappoint you next time :D

Re: Barca vs. Chelsea!!!

i dont think you lot need to be too worried about the 2nd leg...

shame about sissoko, hope he recovers fully, said on bbc he may lose 20-80% of his vision in that eye

Re: Barca vs. Chelsea!!!

this was a highly exciting and entertaining match... especially the part of the match when the one guy kicked the ball to the other guy and then he kicked it to someone else who then fell down without being touched and people sang and then another guy came in and he fell with apparent life threatening injuries and people yelled till the stretcher came out and he was carted off only to come back in two minutes later.... whew! end to end action...

Re: Barca vs. Chelsea!!!

^^ Actually caught one of the funniest things I've ever seen the other night on the footie station here in the states... It was a Chelsea vs Man U match that was being commentated by two former players (one from Chelsea and one from Man U), neither of which i remember, but had me cracking up. Not sure when it was from but it was obviously cold and rainy as hell the night the match was played and they just kept ripping on each other and the others former team... It was just like sitting in a pub with my friend Tony who's an Everton fan and listening to him ramble about drunken Duncan... funny stuff.

yeah sky have a fanzone offering for games that they have the interactive on, Id say thats what it was. For big games its always worth tuning in for a few minutes for a laugh.

Re: Barca vs. Chelsea!!!

Chelsea v barca - I'm glad that Barca won, and in controversial circumstances too. Mourinho has a short memory considering Robben went down like he'd been shot against us (I'm a Liverpool fan). Even with 11 men I think Barca would have won, Messi and Ronaldinho are different gravy at the minute.

Benfica v Liverpool - didn't catch the match due to work but I'm not fussed about the 2nd leg too much. Gerrard was rested due to a slight injury and I heard we controlled the game. Shan - have faith, the strikers will come good, particularly Morientes.

Here's hoping Sissoko gets better quickly. He has been awesome for us this year. I feel sorry for Hamann (great player) because Momo is playing so well, but he'll get his chance

Re: Barca vs. Chelsea!!!

Words cannot describe how much the Barcelona fans and Catalunya people in general irritate me.

Well I guess the best team won, it was a crappy game anyway, decided by a genius.

All in all, I´ll keep wondering what would´ve happened if the ref hadn´t made that stupid decision in the 1st game...11 vs 11 might have been a diferent story.

Caralhos fodam os catalães.

yeah never a pen. and unfortunately gave the excuse for Mourinho to say: "we have played them in four games and they've never beaten us when we've had eleven on the pitch."

Re: Barca vs. Chelsea!!!

yea!!! Good game. Not as exciting as the other three... but Ronaldinho was making some amazing plays in the first have, then had an awesome goal! I feel bad for Messi, but Larson is an awesome player to be able to have on the bench!

Ja!

And isn?t that the truth?

Whatever, I?m enough of a good sport to admit that Barcelona deserved to go through, and that it?s probably good for the sport that the team that puts on more of a show beats the one that plays for nothing more than the results.

But don?t ever expect me to cheer for a team whose fans chant "hijo de puta es, ese portugues" ("That portuguese son of a bitch") at Mourinho continuoulsy, since he landed at the airport. And they?ve been doing the same to Luis Figo for years. One of the most arrogant people in Europe.
