i think it's hilarious that an american goes over to France every year and wins their silly little bicycle race.

owned.:lol:

Pissed off cause I've missed all the mountain stages.

Respect to Armstrong ... definately a contender for best sportsman to ever the live.

To win the biggest endurance event in the world of sport 6 times (provided there are no mishaps b4 Sunday) is a simply awesome achievement.

truly! and if i may take a moment...

seeing as i currently work in the cycling industry (and as a CTS support staff member for cycling training camps) i must add this $0.02 :

what these guys do, whether they win or come in 112, is amazing! riding a bicycle over 2000 miles in 3 weeks, up some of the tallest peaks in europe, and under extreme weather conditions (rain, heat, etc), with media scrutiny, fan mayem, team demands, etc etc etc is unparralleled in any other sporting category. while the TdF may seem like the hardest part for the racers, it's actually the eleven months out of the year they are training/racing to get ready for le Tour. there is no "off season," it's constant training for year on end before you can even get accepted for a tour team.

anyway, if you want the FULL scoop on all this stuff, hit up www.cyclingnews.com :Bingo:

YEAH, I guess winning 6 in a row isnt quite a good enough accomplishment huh?

Re:: Tour the France 2004

I'm not taking away anything from Armstrong but he has been busted in the past for using banned substances.

I wouldn't be shocked if he was busted again.

#223817Post 15 of 28

^^^^ when was this? I think you are mistaken. There were allegations by someone writing a book. But he has never failed a drug test, and he is one of the most tested athletes.

#223822Post 16 of 28

oh guys everybody's cheating us you can't be winner without banned substances IMO

#223826Post 17 of 28
oh guys everybody's cheating us you can't be winner without banned substances IMO
i disagree, i think lance is that good.

#223828Post 18 of 28

I do too to be honest. And I cant believe sour grapes Greg LeMond is pointing the finger too. What a useless twat. Suck it up Greg, Lance is just better than you.

Re:: Tour the France 2004

He has the largest lung capcity ever recorded in the WORLD and his heart is 30% LARGER that any human. Sure, he's not on roids. :roll:

I think,Armstrong win the tour,number six! :LoveYou: :WinkNSmi: :unsure:

Or maybe Tour de Armstrong.

#223922Post 22 of 28

Re:: Tour the France 2004

Armstrong is the man but I think that he's been supported very well by his team mates especially in the recent mountain stages. What makes his achievments even more special is his well documented battle against cancer. He's well on the way to becoming a sporting legend :RockOn:

#223996Post 25 of 28

Re:: Tour the France 2004

Simply , Armstrong is the best.

Respect for this champion.

#224102Post 26 of 28

Re:: Tour the France 2004

Guys because Lance wins the tour 6 times does not mean he is the greatest cyclist ever because that honour belongs to Merckx :RockOn: Merckx is the greatest all round cyclist the world has ever seen and his record shows that. I'm not trying to knock what Lance has achieved because he will go down as the greatest rider in tour history but in theory his season is centred around one race and to be at peak fitness for three weeks in a year.

As le tour gets the most coverage then it's natural that people see his awesome performance and label him the best cyclist ever which is over the top. As a cycling fan of many a year I have studied all the great cyclist of the past and I have nothing but admiration for the great champions of the of the pre war era. Can you imagine the cyclist of today riding longer stages on heavy bikes, no gears just two cogs on either side of the back wheel and having to get off to turn the wheel round when they got to to a mountain :Wacko: Even worse having to repair their own punctures :HolyShit:

After that long winded explanation to my previous comment the point I'm trying to get accross is that there is far more to cycling than Le Tour and that you should not say that Lance is the greatest rider based on his performances in one race. Look at his overall record compared to Merckx and then tell me whose the greatest :wink:

Re:: Tour the France 2004

There is also Miguel Indurain, this man won 5 Le Tours and countless other races all over the world. Where would he come in the all time ranking cyclists?

Also i remember once reading ot hearing on the radio (can`t remember which though) that he had a resting heart beat of 29 :?

That got me thinking so i did a serch and here it is

BBC Sport

29 ffs, thats dead IMO!

#224116Post 28 of 28

Re:: Tour the France 2004

Indurain had a similar approach to Lance, his season was Le Tour and that was that :| Great effort to win the tour 5 times but again he was no Merckx.
