Re: jenks i concede- pujols=cerrano.

Even if the Cards don't make it to the Series now, that bomb from pujols was worth it for me to see the life sucked right out of every Astros player screaming in their dugout thinking they were going to the big game for the first time after the next strike. From Petit saying, "Oh..my...god" to Nolan Ryan in the press box looking like he just lost his dog, to previously flawless Brad Lidge standing on the mound knowing the biggest man in baseball just fisted him in his pujol. It takes 27 outs before you can start screaming and celebrating. Hope this puts some life back into the Cards shitty hitting. Oswalt and Clemens, not good odds for the Cards right now, but i don't care anymore after last night, that...was...awesome.

1 strike away from the World Series...and...OWNED.

Re: jenks i concede- pujols=cerrano.

Caards played a great. Why walk the 2nd guy after the single to get to probably the best player in baseball right now. If you ask my after that dumb mistake, the astros deserve to lose the rest of the series.

i seem to remember the astros doing that to someone recently... :) guess now they know how it feels to be so close, yet so far. dumbest move by phil garner EVER was to let pujols hit when 1)he is the best hitter ever 2) he is 0-4, he's due 3) he's the best hitter ever 4) he always lights lidge up 5) reggie sanders blows dick against lidge 6) reggie had to still be in pain from that nasty spill he took... he isn't 100% 7) lidge obviously wasn't throwing as good as usual, should have seen that when he walked edmonds and hung lots of pitches high 8) he is the best hitter ever 9) you now have a force at any base if you walk pujols

i don't care if phil garner manages on gut feeling... he should have been smarter than that. cards deserved that on behalf of a shitty judgement call. at least busch stadium will have at least one more game in it now. i like that stadium.

couldn't have put it better myself.

I unfortunately had to listen to it in my car, and the whole ninth inning was so loud that it was tough to even hear the announcers over the crowd -- right up until Phat Albert got a hold of that pitch, at which point it became eerily silent. Fucking awesome.

Even before the homer, though, when Pujols came up, I remember thinking to myself, "Regardless of what happens, this is an epic moment -- ninth inning, down by two, two on, two out, with the best hitter in the game facing the best closer in the game." Couldn't ask for something more storybook...

And then, it officially became what will probably go down as one of my all-time most vivid baseball memories. Wish I was watching it instead of listening to it, but that was cool in its own way...

Re: jenks i concede- pujols=cerrano.

dont talk

  1. larussa over manages his breakfast eggs.
  2. you still need to beat oswalt and clemens.
  3. lidge is stil good, albertus is now 2-9 off him.
  4. pressure is still 100% on cards.
  5. larussa teams have 3 HISTORICAL breakdowns. (reds, dodgers, and mets).

i loved how phat albert walked the first 10 steps or so. just admiring his own work. nice!

it's only a matter of time before one of those 'Priceless' commercials is made about that homerun.

Re: jenks i concede- pujols=cerrano.

You guys may have liked it, but as a Houston Astro fan I'm in shock. Not shock from Pujols so much that's what he does, but just being that close to finally getting to the Series.

I think we had gotten lucky with Lidge's last couple of save attempts and I was worried about the top of the order last night coming up in the 9th.

I'm glad we had today as a travel day, so hopefully we can re-group for tomorrow's game. I still like our chances with Oswalt and Clemens pitching, but I won't cheer until the final out.

There's one out there already. I've got it sitting on my computer, but I'm having trouble connecting to my FTP server, so I can't post it. It reads:

NLCS Tix in Crawford Boxes: $100 Foam Cowboy Hat: $10 Cheap Berkman Jersey: $60

Watching a REAL homerun go OVER your head: PRICELESS

There are some homeruns bad ballparks CAN buy. For everything else, there's Pujols.

As a Cardinals fan, I'm still a long ways from comfortable. Both Oswalt and Clemens have pitched great all year long, and both did a great job of holding our offense in check in games 2 & 3. With that said, we're going to be riding a high, and the 'Stros are coming off of what I can imagine must be a demoralizing and heartbreaking evening -- and if you think I don't know what heartbreak is like, let me mention that I am an alum and rabid fan of the University of Missouri Tigers, so I am unfortunately more than familiar with having the wind taken out of my sails i ndramatic fashion. It'll be tough to bounce back from that, I'm sure. Hell, I was reading the Houston Chronicle's website yesterday to get a sense of what Astros fans thoughts were, and a lot of people seems to think it was already over.

I don't think that's right, though. For the Cards to win this series, we've got to come out tonight guns a-blazing and score early and often. I think if we can come out quick and demonstrate that we have regained control of the series, we'll be in pretty good shape and can ride the momentum to a couple of wins. If we let Houston score first, though and regain some spring in their step, it could be an interesting series.

Re: jenks i concede- pujols=cerrano.

Probably not a good sign that they're taking the loss lightly, but a funny quote anyway...

"We kidded with Lidge the whole time on the plane today," Roy Oswalt said. "We actually told him we almost got hit by the ball when the plane took off."

LOL, I heard about that, too. I think they've got to try to do whatever they can to make as light of it as possible. Dwelling on how close they were, how they had already begun celebrating, etc., only to lose is the wrong way to get psyched up for a game...
