Well Jenks since we are talking about we should start to put our points in this topic...

I hear what you are saying about St.Louis and the regualr season but if we learned something from last year is that they choke every year. They are always a great regular season team. If I had to pick right now though it would be LAA. Probably because I love Vlad as a player. Also Colon is pitching great this year and they have great defence.

"First off, to Henry, your right, BASEBALL PLAYERS ARE NOT ATHLETES. The game requires no endurance expect in the field of how many steriods can you take in one minute. It also seem like with all of the patience you need to watch this game, you might as well watch the stupid little three year old girls play chess on on the chess channel or better yet watch the cooking channel becuase unlike baseball you actually get something out of that. And with the big ball and small ball comment, that kind of comment applies to everything. Would u say that ping pong is even harder becuase it has an even smaller ball? Do the table tennisers have more talent than gasp baseball players? Also lets talk about the physical aspect of the game, baseball is for little kids who are: awful at everything else, are scared of the littlest amount of physical contact and don't wanna do much to make big bucks. In conclusion I'd rather try to explain Einstiens theorey of relativity to my sennile grandma than watch or play a game of baseball."

I love the public.

shutup immigrant. baseball rocks. i love it more than football. i am a life long yankees fan but i think our team is too loose in the anus right now to win it all. we're just so inconsistent this year it makes me vomit a little in my mouth. i think the Angels have the best shot this year. i say that only cos i wish the worst for the red sox, and i dont want to see them win again this year. on the other hand, the cardinals are fucking hott hott hott. regular season smegular season. imo, if the cards make it to the big game this year, they will not choke. they have fully developed. any player on that team can play any position. i hope to have a vcr by the time the playoffs and world series rolls around. i want to watch as many games as possible even if it means from some shitty recording.

The team you're talking about being a choker every year, just happens to have the second most world series trophies in MLB.

I've never heard someone bragg about being in second before.. Congrats you guys are the first loser.. ..Angels all the way!

#472054Post 8 of 45

^ if you remember the cardinals vs. the astros last playoff, i remember that being the world series. st. louis was so tired after playing the astros, they had nothing left for the red sox. second year in a row the cards have the best record and without a doubt, the best line-up in MLB. red sox = pussies, over-commercialized and overrated. they won't fair so well this year... at least i hope they don't because they are annoying.

Never heard of someone bragging about being second before? You're kidding right? You're freaking Canadian, you've been bragging about being SOMETHING for centuries, when everyone else knows you're bringing up the rear, especially in baseball. Bang on Mountie. :P

That Stros series killed us last year. One of the hardest fought series i've seen in a long time from both sides. What we lacked last year, we've certainly gained, a cy young pitcher. If we make it this year, we'll fair better than last from experience alone.

edit: just remembered, one good thing about Canada...Larry Freakin Walker. Thanks for that. ;)

as an outsider looking in .. my impression of baseball is that ppl would rather talk about the statistics than the game itself .. which tells me it's a dull game .. i have neva watched a game but as i said it's the impression u get

Re: MLB- Playoff Run

redsox have an overall better lineup than the cards. the bottom of the order is about as good as the top. the angels might be the redsox only if they stay hot though.

Re: MLB- Playoff Run

OK, getting back on track here...

besides playoffs, what is everyone's thoughts on the MVP, Cy Young, coach of the year?

I'm not trying to just from my team here, lol, but:

Cy Young: Chris Carpenter - top three in the three pitching categories that matter: Strikeouts, ERA, Wins, plus he gets a point for division lead. Anyone that picks Clemmons needs a head slap imo.

MVP: Pujols. Man, he should have already won it at least once, but with Bonds being out, i figure he's gotta get it this year. My only worry, Andrew Jones. If AJ got it over Pujols, i probably wouldn't be that pissed, because that guy is a bad ass fielder, and his bat is freaking amazing. He's got HR's and RBI's, but he's not hitting for percentage, and Pujols is near the top in all three. Tough choice for MVP this year, i'm just glad Bonds isn't in the running.

#472127Post 19 of 45

fuck bonds. i wouldnt mind seeing poo holes win it. and even though i reside in ATL i dont root for the braves, so i dont care if andruw jones wins it or not. and as for pitching, i can see Carpenter winning it this year. the ESPN guys (around the horn, sportcenter, PTI) all talk about this guy like they wanna juice his nutsack.

Why do you guys hate so much??actually don't talk about it here start a new thread. but that is my 2 cents.

The game is sport that not only involves the best combination of power, finesse, and the quickest hand eye co-ordination of any sport, but like all sports also involves a passion and a comradery that cannot be felt by reading about it or by simply watching it on television. Baseball, like all sports is not just a game between two seperate teams but is a game represented and fueled by small battles, man vs man (pitcher vs hitter) and men vs men (fielders vs runners).
Yes the premise of the game is one man pitching a ball and another hitting it but really each pitch the pitcher throws is calculated and it is more like a mind game and chess between two men, one with a wooden bat (a wood bat that has rarely changed with technology) and another with a hard round ball with seams. (another that has rarely changed with technology). But unlike a calculation with an perfect answer, a pitchers calculation in what he throws to a hitter, has the ever so slight human error attached to every toss. Combine that element with the huge amount of human error involved when a man swings a piece of wood in hopes to hit a small ball with not only perfect accuracy but perfect timing. These elements human error makes the game what it is, not just the basics, and really thats just the basics.

It isnt one man "throwing" a ball, it is one man directing a ball with incredible power at incredible speeds and making the ball go wherever he wants it to go and move however he wants it to. Far more complex than a "throw". It is the only game that is so difficult, that being able to hit 30% of the time it is considered great.

This is just the beginning, but I know you dont understand bart simpson, because by your comments it is easy to see that you sit there and judge without even putting any elements of this together.

I dont care if you dont understand or if you even hate baseball for that matter, but why make an ignorant statement about something you obviously know nothing about?

The way you so ignorantly decribed a game that has existed for over one hundred years is like descibing a dj as someone who simply plays one song after another, a very self centred and unknowledgable way to make a point.

Thats why your an idiot, because you cant keep your uninformed comments about things you dont understand to yourself.

I can't really speak for the girl, but personally, i'm just giving you shit like i have since day one of this board, and vice versa. I don't hate canadians. You're quasi french, but i live in the midwest u s of A...so, at opposite ends of the spectrum, we're probably going to butt heads on a few things: doesn't mean it's personal. I'd say that woman that hated you because you're French, er, Canadian, is a freaking moron tbh, so piss on her.

But the Cards rule, and that's our religion in this city, and talk bad about that, and canadian or not, you're going to hear some smack.

Why i think Andrew Jones shouldn't get MVP: Because Pujols deserves it for what he's done this year and every year he's been in the majors to this day. A lot of people know he was robbed by bonds for MVP, especially when Pujols had better numbers across the board than Bonds. Pujols, at this point in his career, has record breaking stats in just about every category. If Bonds got the MVP in years past based on his name and what he's accomplished (which clearly i think that was the case,) then imo, you gotta give it to Pujols this year. Pay up. No disrespect to Jones, that guy is a machine, but MLB owes that freak Pujols a trophy imo. Just my .02 on the MVP.

I'll say this tho, Jones is the probably the best outfielder in baseball. He's sniping people down at home plate on the fly. The ball doesn't even come close to touching the ground from the outfield to home plate. He's trowing a rope, and it's accurate. That's sick.

Re: MLB- Playoff Run

thank you platinum for the in-depth look at the game of baseball.. that being said jenks I agree with the things that you say but I still think Jones will win MVP.. he is having a better season then Puljos.. You can't give a player with worse numbers the MVP because he has been robbed in previous years because someone was hitting 70 homeruns..

#472339Post 26 of 45

Re: MLB- Playoff Run

AL stylings.

CY Young should go to rivera. but i dont think he'll get it. Manny will get AL MVP, they wont give it to AROD or Vlad. and ortiz wont get it, DH's never get it. the Clemmins debate is a good one. he is the best pitcher out there, but the team isnt doing it for him.

giambi will get the comeback player(god i hope he isnt on juice again)

and as for bonds, give him the walk record. please give him the walk record. NO ONE PITCH TO HIM> just hit him or walk him. when he breaks ruth's record, i hope he has to do it in NY against the mets, so NY'ers can throw everything that isnt screwed down at his lying ass. sych a scumbag..

Re: MLB- Playoff Run
. You can't give a player with worse numbers the MVP
Why not, that was the case for Bonds twice. ;)

Plus, i don't think Pujols has worse numbers than Jones. 10 more HR's is hard to argue with. But Jones isn't the complete player Pujols is imo, and you'd be giving the MVP to Jones for the flashy stat HRs, not all around value:

Jones = .275 average - 49HR - 121RBI - 89Runs - 145Hits - 61Walks - 97K's - SB - 3

Pujols = .338 average - 39HR - 108RBI - 117Runs - 180Hits - 85walks - 60K's - SB 15

#472374Post 28 of 45

Re: MLB- Playoff Run

kinda disagree with ya jenks.

i'd give it to jones. he carried a team with kids and no chipper to win the division. better stats outside of average, but that also reflects the team around him.

puljos has a ton of talent around him as well.

#472379Post 29 of 45

Re: MLB- Playoff Run
better stats outside of average
Uhhhh, are you blind?

There are 8 stat categories up there, Pujols is dominating 6 of them. :NotMe:

So Jones is better because he carried the team with no Chipper? Cards = no Rolen, no Sanders for the majority of the season. Edmonds missed a lot too. not having Rolen's bat or glove is just as big of a hit as not having chipper. And the Braves have Chip back, Rolen is done. They won their division? Good, we smoked our division, and the rest of baseball really. The NL Central is a tough division to play in too.

It goes back to one of the problems with baseball of late imo, it's all about the homerun and noone gives a piss about the grunt stats that make a ballplayer.

#472384Post 30 of 45

Re: MLB- Playoff Run

puljos is hurt cuz he is on a better team. i'd still give it to jones. took a worse team further with out another big star on offense.

#472387Post 31 of 45

Re: MLB- Playoff Run

Haha, just clicked MLB to read up, and this article was front page...

From sports illustrated...
Pujols' time has come

Andruw Jones lit into a couple more pitches Sunday, launching two home runs while the Braves crossed off another win and the growing "Jones for MVP" chorus revved up once again.

Without Jones this year, the Braves would be scrambling to stay afloat. He is, at the very least, their most valuable player. When Chipper Jones went down with an injury, Andruw was there. When all the rookies came up from the minors, Andruw showed them the way. When the Phillies and Marlins and Nationals and Mets made their runs, it was Andruw who beat them back.

Yes, Andruw Jones is having a heck of a year. As of Sunday, he led the majors in homers, with 49, and the National League in RBIs, with 121. But you know what?

Give me Albert Pujols for MVP.

What we have here is a case of a really good year by a very good player (that would be Jones) placed against another exceptional year in an already historic run of exceptional years by a truly exceptional player. Yes, Jones has been good. But he doesn't match up to Pujols, the Cardinals' first baseman.

(Before we go further, I have to mention the Cubs' Derrek Lee here, who also has produced an outstanding year. His team, though, has stumbled badly, which has hurt Lee's game and his MVP chances over the past month and a half. He's now behind both Pujols and Jones in the MVP race.) I could rip off stats galore in this Jones vs. Pujols argument, but instead of doing that, let's just go with an abridged version of the numbers debate. Jones leads the league in homers and RBIs. Pujols is fairly close in both categories, ranking third in homers and second in RBIs. End of that.

Pujols leads Jones in just about every other meaningful statistical category: on-base percentage, slugging percentage, combined on-base and slugging (OPS), extra-base hits, total bases, batting average (that's not even close), hitting with runners on, hitting with runners in scoring position, walks, strikeouts, walk-to-strikeout ratio (that's not close, either), steals, runs, runs created ...

You get the idea.

Of course, that's the easy part of the equation. It gets a lot more difficult to pick an MVP when you take into consideration the intangibles. You know, the "most valuable" part.

Jones has been an integral part of the Braves, both with his typically wonderful play in center field and his place in a lineup that has undergone some painful changes. But no one has meant more to his team than Pujols.

Yes, the Cardinals have other stars, including center fielder Jim Edmonds. But the Cardinals, like the Braves, have had plenty of upheaval. They started the season with a new middle infield combination and a new catcher. They have played without third baseman Scott Rolen for most of the season (and he's now out for good). Outfielders Larry Walker and Reggie Sanders, key components to the lineup, have been injured for extended periods, too.

Pujols has been the Cardinals' rock, the steadiest part of a team that has the best record in the majors. He's missed one game all season. He leads the team in every offensive category. He has been everything that anyone expects out of an MVP: The leader, the example, the cornerstone.

Manager Tony La Russa raves about Pujols' work ethic. Everyone else raves about the results and the numbers he constantly, and consistently, churns out. Pujols has become the first player in history to hit .300 with at least 30 homers and 100 RBIs in each of his first five seasons. As of Sunday, he was hitting .337, four points shy of Lee, well within reach of his second batting title. He also had 39 homers and 107 RBIs. He was the only player in the NL in the top three in batting average, homers and RBIs, and he was also in the top three in on-base percentage (he led that category) and slugging percentage (he's second to Lee).

In 2002 and '03, Pujols played backup to Barry Bonds for the MVP award. Last year, he finished third (behind Bonds and the Dodgers' Adrian Beltre).

That also-ran streak should end this year. No one has been a better all-around player than Pujols. No one has meant more to his team.

If that's not an MVP, I don't know what is
lol,

the player i have been loving this season is D train. 21 wins, hitting like 260, couple of homers and RBI's, 6 shutouts, and a bunch of complete games thrown. he is a throwback player. hustles all the time, only pitcher you see diving into home headfirst. young, exciting, energetic. everything the game needs. model player for kids.

It's good to see you finally agree with me on the MVP tho. :P

#472410Post 36 of 45

Re: MLB- Playoff Run

what MVP? manny?

im still thinking jones gets it over pujols because he meant more for his team. Manny will get it over AROD if yanks dont make it to the playoffs.

the award is MVP, not best player. if it were best player you'd be forced to give it to AROD and pujols for each league.

Jenks who the fuck cares about walks?? the fact of the matter is that Jones had 10 more homeruns and more RBI's... the runs is a chart that is based on the team around you.. Jones has nobody. Also another advantage that Puljos has is they can't pitch around him because the line-up is strong.. they always go with RBI's and homeruns.. we haven't even got into fielding yet.. Jones has made 2 errors all year..

I'd have to agree Jones has a bunch young inexperienced guys and to do what they have done with Chipper being injured all year, that's pretty impressive.

Regarding, I'm torn between Clemens and Willis but their teams suck so Carpenter it is.

in the AL, I'd love for Rivera to win it but he probably won't and for MVP GO A-ROD!!!!!!
