i"m not a big soccer fan myself either and its not because of the fans its because soccer has to many strict rules that make the game to be borring and not so spectaculo like american football or hockey

Too many strict rules? All you have to do is get the ball in the net. There's no yard lines, downs, end zones - surely American Football is more complicated? Great game but soccer is the beautiful game.

Strict rules?

try playing rugby... there are 42 possible infractions on a line-out

Australian football........now there's a game. Ausie rules used to be on fox sports every saturday, but i never see it on anymore. I mean how can you not like the game, the field is the same shape as the ball and its like a mix between, soccer, rugby, american football.

Too many rules! Youre kidding right. Like Mixu said, youve got to get the ball in the net, simple. No stop start stop start stop..... Just 90 mins of 11 against 11 and not 4 hours of a fancy dress carnival

Oh yeh, and ice hockey, that game where you see a few men skating around chasing a tiny black puk/puck (whatever you call it) which you cant`see. I do like the fighting tho, quite entertaining.

Re:: Why americans dont like football!!!

Well its the first sport of every single country in the world apart from the US, so it can't be all bad!

And whoever slated the Greece game, how can you do that? Was a classic battle between the favourites and the under dogs, flair versus determination and team work.

#217148Post 14 of 71

Aussie Rules is a great game, im just back from a year in OZ and the do love there sport down under
its soccer who keeps getting more borring anyone seen the semifinal between greece and czech republic? can you cat worse than that :?:
It was boring, but because Greece had a great defence and their midfield were stopping everything. At least in Football there are 11 players for 90min with only a 15min break in the middle. How many different players are there on an American football field and for a drawn out 48min?

Football is the universal language

This game war boring, but what about the game czech republic angainst netherlands or portugal against GB? It's alLong time ago I've seen such a great game...

#217223Post 20 of 71

i would like soccer a lot better if they had an offside line instead of a bunch a faggoty defensemen who intentionally try not to cover someone on an offensive pass into space. The game always turns into one big bitch fest followed by riots.

It could be so good......it just needs a more American touch. Fewer fouls and free kicks, more physical play, less off sides, and every player can pick the ball up with his hands  oh yeah and ban Argentina from international play because they dive every chance they get.....fuckin wankers

soccer is without a doubt the most brilliant game on the planet. it's too bad the us is full of too many meatheads who are in nowhere near the pyschical shape it takes to play the game. i also however love the NFL, watch it relgiously. but there is still absolutely no comparsion between soccer and anything else in the world (ok maybe nascar )

they arent running around chasing the puck man, watch the game a bit more...which might also help you see the puck, cause its not that tough.

Thats what I was thinking. I just think in the US we have sports that go with our lazy lifestyles. In soccer everyone is running the entire time. In American football there plenty of breaks for everyone to catch their breaths, mid game shows and whatever else. Personally I don't care for any sports (I never got that gene). I'd much rather play than watch. Watching sports on TV is just too boring to me (except maybe CART or hockey and thats only if theres nothing else on).

Well i have watched it actualy but only on TV and from what i can/cannot see they all seem to be skating around waving big sticks in the air. It may be better to watch live in the flesh but to be honest i`d rather knit a rice pudding.

Re:: Why americans dont like football!!!

American football is way out, even now it?s been explained to me i still don?t bother watching it.

Football on the other hand flows, (until so twat ref pulls them back) football is non stop excitement or should be.

An interesting fact, A bunch of english rugby players played some amercain footballers at american footie and kicked the asses, then they played rugby. After they explained there were no pads and helmets etc they absoultly hammered the NFL players. it was embrassing to how much they lost by.

Besides, doesn?t it piss you off to have a TV network stop the plays as it?s for a advert break?

Re:: Why americans dont like football!!!

double you tee eff mates....

curling is where it's at....where else can you find bored lesbian housewives throwing plates down ice while the others use a mop or an iron to direct it's direction....that's excitement at it's best my friends.

Re:: Why americans dont like football!!!

i honestly find nfl tedious and boring. its too stop-start and the game doesnt really flow....but that being said it is a "tactical sport" much like many american sports...not meaning that in a bad way.

that being said we dont get cheerleaders for any australian sports

#217579Post 32 of 71

Re:: Why americans dont like football!!!

The entire nature of the game is more complicated than other sports. Just because it stops for a half minute makes it boring. Please. In soccer they jog all the time, it's not like they are busting it all the time, they pass back and forth back and forth until finally someone pops open, then they pass it to him but he gets tripped. Then they have to restart, blah blah. Where's the flow in that. Much of the effort in soccer goes for nothing. There's hardly any scoring. There is a bit of tedium in all sports. It's what you enjoy the most, just like our taste in music but no way can you say it's boring.

Re:: Why americans dont like football!!!

I think soccer is getting better (except this European Cup) - spectacular, offensive play, good strikers...what else do we need? :Naughty:

I agree, I live in the states now, with most of my family in UK and never heard of such a thing. I dont disagree that's how it would turn out tho. NFL players prance around all padded up breaking every 6 seconds, I dont think they are half as hard as rugby players. IMO

Re:: Why americans dont like football!!!

Soccer or "Football" never broke the main stream barrier in the United States but I think it will happen eventually. It's a fact that soccer doesn't have time outs and quarters like basketball or American football, so it's hard to get advertisements related to it. No money, no time slot. The only advertisement for soccer is the billboards right outside of the soccer field. So I think that played a huge factor. Also, we have too many other sports to watch in the United States like bull riding and WWE(WWF)...hahaha. Lastly, I think it's just stupid ignorant american pride. For example, I still don't understand why some countries don't speak English. hahahaha.

Yes, they are tough but it is a totally different game. You have much higher impact in american footbal than in australian rules or rugby. Don't get me wrong those are some tough mofos I'm not taking anything away but you must take the nature of the game into account. The avg running back lasts 3 years (with pads and everything) because they receive so much contact. When a linebacker is 250lbs bench presses 500lb can squat 700+ and can run the 40yd in 4.5 secs. Head on with a running back who is about the same stature. That's a friggin collision. What about a safety who gets a 10yd head start? You don't see these collisions in rugby or anything else. They are not pussys. And as far and the lineman being out of shape. You'll see that less and less. You guys try pushing another 300lb person for 60 minutes. Look at Toni Boselli he was like 6'7" 350lbs ran a 4.7 and had a 34 inch vertical jump. But he's a fat out of shape offensive lineman and defensive lineman are even more athletic.
