Re: D.C. United vs. Chelsea FC [July 28]
If tickets were more reasonably priced, I would have considered to go, however paying > $40 for the friendly Soccer game does not sound like a reasonable decision. Having said that, I have heard on the radio that there not many tickets remaining, and Fedex is a huge ass statium. Luckly ESPN 2 will televised the game.
Re: D.C. United vs. Chelsea FC [July 28]
anyone going to predict anything?
Re: D.C. United vs. Chelsea FC [July 28]
its a no brainer on how this one would end up :?
Re: D.C. United vs. Chelsea FC [July 28]
I thought DC united did very well. I know Chelsea are just back from summer break and that they are not fit or really up for it but youd still think they would spank an MLS side. Jose will be after Adu in no time!
Re: D.C. United vs. Chelsea FC [July 28]
"Prediction: DC will struggle to break down the Chelsea defense and are unlikely to score. A slightly less stern test for Chelsea than AC Milan or Benfica and may lead to a few more goals. 3-0 to Chelsea."
Not at all, 2-1 Chelsea. Though DC ran hard and worked Chelsea's fullbacks, Chelsea dominated the air game. In fact, they won just about anything in the air from 6-7 feet. Still not bad for MLS.
In fact, save this post and at least a generation from now, US Soccer will be dominating many of the European Leagues. Why, US players have no size. This was obvious by comparing the DC team standing side by side with Chelsea. Every Chelsea player out weighed and were inches to a foot taller than United. This is rightly so, since most of our corn bread fed muscle and speed packing athletes are playing basketball or football.
Soccer across the globe is mostly a lower class sport dominated by Rugby or Cricket; however, soccer in the US is a middle and upper class sport which has the potential to draw allot of money, making it a competing sport against Football, Basketball and even Baseball. Once that happens, many youth will begin adopting the idea of becoming a professional soccer player and not to mention, the salaries are only going to get better for those players resulting in overseas recruiting because those positions that are paying anywhere from $100K-450, will be paying in millions.
^ That is true but it first has to get popular. Soccer in the states is not very popular yet. But it is still growing. I think it will be a while before soccer is even some what popular here.
Re: D.C. United vs. Chelsea FC [July 28]
Football, or soccer as you guys like to call it, is thee number one sport (fishing is not a sport imo) in the world. It won`t be long before you guys talk about nothing else but the "beautifull game"
You can save this post too. :wink2:
Re: D.C. United vs. Chelsea FC [July 28]
soccer, or football as you guys call it, is completely boring to most americans. soccer is actually the most played youth sport in the us. however, most leave the sport to play games they enjoy more like baseball, basketball or football. with the generations of fans that just love our own football, it will be nearly impossible to generate that type of popularity with soccer. the world league of american football never got popular in europe because europeans just prefer soccer and have for generations.
Re: D.C. United vs. Chelsea FC [July 28]
Soccer  I just found that word funny, why you guys get a name to a sport like yours if all players use hands to play the ball usually, FOOTball is to be played with both feet not both hands.. so football is our football, yours it should have been named like MIXBALL or something 8) Anyway this is a old question.. doesnt matter, I just found a bit funny how north americans describe our 1st sport.
Talking about the thread itself.. I heard that Chelsea won again, since they win against my team, SLBenfica.. it was a good game, Chelsea won 1-0 but they didnt deserved
[quote]the world league of american football[/quote]
World league with only one counrty participating?
Agreed that until footbal becomes more popular at grassroots level then the USA will continue to be ranked low in the world.
