so i was just watching espn and they were talking about a brand new stadium next to yankee stadium... is this true? is the stadium already built? or under construction? when will the move happen?

fuck man. ive been a yankees fan my whole life and never made it to the bronx for a game. i need to get there before they move.

:frantic plea for info emoticon:

Its proposed date for completion/opening is 2009 and it's going to be very similar in dimensions to the current Yankee stadium. They may have broken ground on it already, but it definitely isn't finished.

#436874Post 3 of 31

wow thats slightly comforting. i was about to call my dad and tell him we need to take a road trip before September. will defo make plans to get there this season or next.

#436876Post 4 of 31

Yeah it probably wouldn't be a good idea to go at least right now because they are sucking like a Hoover.

#436881Post 5 of 31

well as much as i want to see them win, i really just want to see that piece of history. yankee stadium is the most famous sports arena in the world. maybe second only to The Roman Colosseum.

Wrigley? Fenway? Palace at Auburn Hills?

Re: New York Yankees

its a long ways out.

the current stadium is given to the city of NY. but on the condition that it doesnt get completely destroyed, they want to build a museum of baseball.

the new stadium is a throwback to the original (1923). the press conference showed the models and drawings. looks beautiful

the only thing i dont like is that it will be built across the street. i think they should tear it all down and build on the ground were all those ghosts lie. too much history at that spot.

#436897Post 9 of 31

i prefer the museum idea over ripping it down. a lot of history and emotions on that ground. would love to walk Jibby Junior thought it someday.

I agree, tear it down. Because if they have the audacity, the nerve, the shallow-minded stupidity to destroy the "house that Ruth built" they will incur a curse that will make the Red Sox curse look like a blink of an eye. As a Mets fan. I'd love to see that!!

Re: New York Yankees

what people dont realize is that most of the current stadium is the original. all the retaining walls and foundation is the original 1923 stadium the one that was renovated in the 60's is just a small tear off and reuild. the bottom 2 hallways are tthe exact way theu were in 1923. makes walking onto the feild lvl boxes something special when you think people walked right there to see ruth gehrig dimaggio mantle berra rizzuto maris munson howard etc etc

Re: New York Yankees

more like infamous... for having the shittiest teams around. Continental Arena on the other hand, Arena of Champions! :D:D

I've been you Yankee stadium about 3 times and I think the character that place has is worth a lot more than whatever bullshit amenities you'd get with one of these lame new stadiums. Same thing with Shea, there's no movie theather or day spa, but it has history and character, and says something other than generic

I saw in the paper yesterday that now that Bloomberg got shot down on the west side stadium (another porject I didn't want) he's moved on to the Mets and wants to augment onto Shea's open outfield. I'm a bit torn on this one, while I'd like the Mets to get some love, I like Shea the way it is and the layout of the new plan looks way too big for the Met crowd. This plan is a dud anyway, because nobody is going to Flushing for the Olympics.

Re: New York Yankees

my buddy works for the yanks...he was at a meeting yesterday and saw the layout. he said it's gonna look insane. if you've ever been to camden yards, he said it's gonna be better...and camden is phat.

#437125Post 16 of 31

Re: New York Yankees

agreed. camden yards is fucking beautiful. the wharehouse behind it was restored using the same lot of bricks that the stadium used, so they look like they are one huge structure. when i went to preakness i went to the game on friday. i had to walk up to the upperdeck and just look out over the stadium to see that place in whole. place is amazing. the whole setup of it, how you walk into the stadium by walking through the outfeild walkway. you can see everything. so cool.

#437143Post 17 of 31

Re: New York Yankees

yup...all of the new stadiums are doing the same. bars/bbq's inside the stadium walls...not sure, but i think that's what they're gonna do with yankee stadium. make it an event, not just a baseball game. new york definitely needs that type of environment.

Re: New York Yankees

I haven't been to Camden, but I recently went to the Phillies new park. It is nice, maybe even cute, but really rinky-dink. It reminded me more of the local minor league park (Somerset Patriots) than an MLB Stadium.

Gerry, hate the devils? Sorry but I'm going to have to ask you to leave NJ.

All I know is my tax money is gonna be used for the Yankees new stadium and I fuckin' hate the Yankees. Now for the Mets, I don't mind. :D
yankee stadium is the most famous sports arena in the world. maybe second only to The Roman Colosseum.
What are you on jibby?

Baseball has very little signifcance outside of the US, you'd be hard pressed to find anyone in the UK that follows baseball. Football on the other hand is a worldwide sport, i bet if you took a poll in any country Old Trafford / Bernbau / Nou Camp or San Siro would kick the yanks ass. For my money Lords Cricket ground is up there at the top, but football is far more popular than cricket.

Also it's bit tastless calling the Colosseum a "sports" arena, considering the amount of blood that has been spilt there.

#437171Post 21 of 31

the colloseum was a "sports" arena to the caesars. they saw the maulings and deaths as entertainment. how is that not sport in your book? stop trying to be american. its not gonna happen no matter how many green cards you get. and you're gonna say nobody in the UK knows what Yankee stadium is? so no europeans like baseball? thats like saying no americans like import beer. try thinking before you talk, might save yourself some embaressment.
the colloseum was a "sports" arena to the caesars. they saw the maulings and deaths as entertainment. how is that not sport in your book?
I never said it wasn't a sports arena, just it is tasteless to call a blood sport entertainment, but techincally i suppose it is a sports arena.
stop trying to be american. its not gonna happen no matter how many green cards you get.
In what way am i trying to be an american? Why the fuck would i want a green card? The last person i want my tax dollars going to is George W.
and you're gonna say nobody in the UK knows what Yankee stadium is? so no europeans like baseball?
To call the yankies stadium the most well known or #1 or best in the world is just plain wrong. It's like the "world series" where ONE country takes part. There is no global involvement. IMO if you asked a cross section of people (globally) to name the #1 stadium in the world then it would a football (soccer) stadium as world wide soccer is far more popular than baseball. Apart from Nicaragua can you name one other baseball league outside N America?
try thinking before you talk, might save yourself some embaressment.
Pot, Kettle, Black?

YOU jibby are the yankie wanna be, not me.

#437194Post 23 of 31
YOU jibby are the yankie wanna be, not me.
i am american. so how can i be an american wannabe?

again:
try thinking before you talk, might save yourself some embaressment.
and i somewhat agree with you disagreeing with me about Yankee stadium being the most recognized sports arena in the world.

Re: New York Yankees

i just go the scoop from my friend...apparently steinbrenner is paying $850 million of the $1.1 billion stadium, so it won't cost the city or the fans that much. right now it has 5000 parking spots...they're adding 6000 more, so there will be plenty of parking with crosswalks, etc. And it will be similar to the camden yards set up, where everthing is inside the stadium walls. i'm gonna ask him if he can suggest that they put in some rub-n-tugs. i'd go just for that...and i'm a met fan.

Tokyo

In fact the MLB is very international, especialy in central and south America, but also in Asia. Korea and Japan are huge. You're actually worse than what you accuse us of: just because people from your country don't play, it must not be international.

Re: New York Yankees

This stadium is going to be sick.

I'm a huge fan of tradition but just like anything times are changing. Yes it will be EXTREMELY weird not to see the old stadium but it'll become waht other old torn down stadiums have become memories.

regarding, the old Yankee stadium, they're not going to tear it down completely. The are actually from what I've read are going to leave the field with some of the seats so they can hold major baseball events for Kids like little league games and H.S. games, which is pretty sweet for a kid.
