[b]Tyson: 'I don't have the stomach for this'[/b]

WASHINGTON ? Mike Tyson's career might have ended in shocking fashion Saturday night when he quit on the stool after taking a beating in a foul-filled sixth round against unheralded Kevin McBride.

Tyson lost for the third time in his last four fights, and once again he faded badly as the rounds went on before head butting McBride in a desperate attempt to end the fight in the sixth round.

"I can still get in shape but I don't think I have the fight and guts anymore," former undisputed heavyweight champion Tyson told Showtime PPV after the bout, while a chorus of boos filled the MCI Center.

"I don't have the stomach for this no more. I most likely won't fight again. I'm not going to disrespect the sport by losing to this caliber of fighter. I'm sorry to disappoint. I wish there was some way the fans could get some of their money back."

Tyson was pushed to the canvas when the round ended, his head stuck between the first and second ropes. He got up very slowly, wobbled back to his corner and sat on his stool.

When referee Joe Cortez came by to look at him, his corner told Cortez the fighter could not continue. Cortez then went over and raised McBride's hand in victory.

The 38-year-old Tyson was a huge favorite over McBride and won the early rounds. But as the fight went on, it was McBride landing the bigger punches as Tyson desperately tried to score a knockout.

Tyson was weary by the fifth round and, in the sixth round, he was penalized two points for deliberately head butting McBride and opening a cut over his left eye. The head butt came after Tyson appeared to try to break McBride's arm in a clinch like he once did against Francois Botha and after he hit him with several low blows.

In a career filled with tremendous highs and terrible lows, Tyson may have reached a new low in the loss to McBride, who came into the fight with no credentials.

It was a disappointment to watch because he was beating McBride like an Irish wife until 6. What a hell of a career Tyson had, though.

Good riddance imo. I'm not a fan of boxing, but this guy has been a cancer for quite some time now.

they should have never let him fight again when he came out of jail.. he has wrecked the sport IMO.. I love boxing too i just hope someone comes up and carries the sport the way McGwire carried baseball after the strike by hitting his 62 homerun.. :D

the problem with Mike Tyson is that people constantly keep saying: "look there he comes, Tyson, the greatest fighter of them all" and then he did nothing but losing lots of fights.. i've never seen him as a good boxer.. in fact i don't like him.. but it is good to see his fights...

Well until his recent string of mediocrity, he was something like 49-3. Even now his record is 50-6.

I may be dating myself by saying this, but watching mike tyson on PPV when he was at his peak was something. He was an ANIMAL, but not in the bite your ear off, eat your children sort of way he is now. $50.00 for a PPV fight was a lot of dough back then when you are in 6th grade.

Well...i watched the fight and i gotta say that i feel sad about him. Life is like this, one day u r the king of the world and the next day you lose an easy fight like a clounw.

that picture of him in the paper is priceless. Dirty rat 38 yr old convict. HE tried to purposely break Mcbrides arm. Tyson looks so pathetic sitting there with his gut out. fuck him. hes old, and he was against a younger stronger fighter.
