When i was a kid all i ever did was ride my bike. Everyfuckingwhere i went it was on that bike, hell i went to France with my parents in a Ford Cortina estate car and the bike went with me. I started off with a shity Raleigh Burner...

..but soon built a new bike that made all my friends look like shit. To this day i still remember all the parts.

Mongoose Supergoose frame and forks

GT jumbo bars

Mushroom grips

Powerglide brake cables

Aero seat with layback post

Comp four tires

Skyway Tuff 2 wheels

2 piece Tuffneck crank shaft

Two finger brake levers (i can`t rmember what they were atm)

Victor plarform pedals

Gear ratio of 44:16

Sad i am, but i was just sat hear reminiscing and thought i`d share it with you lot.

Anyone else into BMXing?

Re: BMX in the days..

I rode my bike every day too... but it wasn't a bmx. 12 years old riding without touching the handlebars as long as I wanted made me feel like the shit.

"Hi, my name's Adam, and I ride my bike with no hands"

Re: BMX in the days..

Shit, remember those mushrooms grips? Blast from the past man. Yeah used to love my BMX. Just looking at buying my first bike for about 14 years, can't decide on full suspension or a hardtail right now.

BMX Bandits, top film!

Re: BMX in the days..

Whoa! BMX! i was actually in the south west freestyle team, no shit 8) My first ride was a Raleigh Superburner (same as a burner but the frame was coated in gold plastic and it had Skyways) but i soon ended up with a yellow PK Ripper with black Skyway graphites, Renthal bars, Skyway crank, fuckin awesome machine till some scally robbed it when i was in the fuckin sweet shop  I bought a Torker 280 frame & forks after that but never got the whole machine together, in fact the frame is still in me old mans shed.

Re: BMX in the days..

^ sick.

i had a GT Pro Freestyle. Added the aluminum 3 piece crank, and eventually the Haro Team handlebars. They were really narrow and made windmills, tailwhips and cherry pickers a lot easier.

So wanted the Haro Master team bike, that fucker was like $650 back then tho, and my summer job didn't pay that well. Ended up building the GT Pro piece by piece from the frame up as i made more $.

damn i'm old.

Re: BMX in the days..

My BMX experience ended when I looked at a rabbit, hit a pothole, fell off my bike, and broke my arm BAD. Both bones snapped-OWWWW

I think I was 8 yrs old.

Re: BMX in the days..

although bmx has changed so much in its 30 plus years of exisitence, riding bmx has always been about just having fun on your bike, thats why it still appeals so much to me. btw the rad soundtrack is the fucking best, "break the ice" one of the best 80's anthemes ever imo

 That`s quite an old version. This is more like the one we had

Theres always one thing that sticks out for me back in my BMX days, them fucking platform pedals and the little bits of metal that stuck out to give you more grip... if you didnt get ya foot back on in time after a trick you knew you`re shin was in for some severe pain.

Re: BMX in the days..

Indeed, if i remeber rightly, weren`t they made up from more than one piece of metal and were very flimsy?

Re: BMX in the days..

lol, me too, what about those other ones, Shimano i think they were, with the little pins, and when your foot slipped off the pedal they would whip round and thwack into your shin, ewwwwwwwww :x

#397166Post 39 of 43

Re: BMX in the days..

the all time shin bleeders in my opinion WERE the Hutch Beartraps!!! Ouch!!! Those pedals would dig so far into your shin bones, ahh just great they were.
