:shock: Great presentation about big wave surfing off the coast of California. Surfers will find it interesting, non surfers will get bored pretty quick I think .

Chris Dixon discusses his non-fiction book about Cortes Bank, the submerged mountain that is 100-miles southwest of Los Angeles. Said to create some of the largest waves on the planet, it is a dangerous and seductive place for "big wave surfers" who risk their lives trying to surf it. Chris researched the history of this mysterious place, from the ancient people that lived on the neighboring islands to the first sailors that attempted to map the California Coast and nearly died in the waves of Cortes Bank. Fielding audience questions after the presentation, Chris is joined by surf photographers Rob Brown and Jason Murray, along with big wave surfing legends Jeff Clark, Ken "Skindog" Collins, and Greg Long

If you aren't already a surfer, this presentation is probably gonna be a bore, but the last 20 mins there is a Q&A with the big wave surfers you might enjoy.

By the way, I'm in no way a big wave surfer, the biggest wave I've ever surfed was about a foot or 2 over head high... I have been fortunate to surf the open ocean before though off the point in Point Loma so I do understand what they are describing to a certain extent.

You gotta have serious balls for this sport. I've never been brave enough to give it a go.

I am fine with riding steeps on a snowboard, but surfing? No thanks...I'll keep myself on dry land.

Those waves are effing HUGE. Wow.
