Ah whatever. I just don't like any of the shit he plays nowadays, its just habit i keep listening to it. I don't like Digweed either he's a racket too. At least he's professional though and i really like Transitions when hes not playing his brand of noisy mono techno

prefer listening to mixes by unknowns nowadays. People like Simon Langham on Bedrock.
The Transitions shows are hardly different from what he plays in his boring monotechno sets. It's hilarious how people can listen to John Digweed's boring big room tech-house sound he's been playing for the past 5 years, yet whine about Sasha. What the fuck?

Who is "inspiring" anyone with DJ sets these days? The 90s are over! Everything's been done. I don't get it.

This ......
for me he started going downhill around 2005 with all that Ableton bollocks, had a bit of a revival around 2010 but since then most of his live sets have been dull
That fucking software.

And all the minimal-techno and tech-house that he started to play with that, was the end of an era. in general was a bad period when many djs started changing their sound to that stupid trendy.

So, people here complaining Sasha or Digweed play techno? That they didnt have anything good since 2001 (or 2005) ? You have such a short memory. There have been plenty of good sets from both of them even after 2005 (think of Sasha's Sky Club 2008 or Diggers Beirut set).

The Sky club set was Ok, but it was no Simon's, Zen or Triple J.

Re: Sasha @ Last Night On Earth Party, Blue Parrot - Playa del Carmen, Mexico (16.01.

Agree with everyone on this. Hate track 3 that starts around 12 mins and a couple of others, which back in the day you'd never say. The guy is not working his sets hard enough. Echo, re verb type effects are over used and irritating at times. He's extending silly bits from the ends of tracks for so long its ridiculous, a pointless exercise that doesn't enhance the next track at all. Given the technology out there its lazy dj'ing, especially for a guy with everything at his fingertips.

just a thought, but has there been a really decent set since he married his american bird? Saw her in london years back monitoring him and those around, looked pretty controlling

Re: Sasha @ Last Night On Earth Party, Blue Parrot - Playa del Carmen, Mexico (16.01.

I love that Tricky Disco track, I dug that out again after hearing this. I had that on vinyl, must have been 20 years ago, maybe closer to 25 years ago. Obviously that Martin Brothers remix came a lot later but I bet even that is 10 years old now. Think Zabiela played it on an essential mix in 2006/7?

Great track.

Shame about the others.
Probably the worst set he's ever played. Dreadful.
LIKE!

i finally was able to listen to the mix and wanted to hop on here and see what peoples opinion were. i was at that party and yeah it was fun being there, but i have to agree. its not a good set and probably one of the worst sets ive ever heard him play. lol. he used that remixer too much and it wasnt flowing. i like when he uses it subtlety but he did it way too much at the wrong times in this set. im not a huge fan of his techno sets. oh well you cant win them all.

#1737991Post 67 of 86

Re: Sasha @ Last Night On Earth Party, Blue Parrot - Playa del Carmen, Mexico (16.01.

^^^ Agreed, the remixer was hammered mostly in the the wrong parts. I have to say tho, given the fact ive virtually grown up listening to this guy play in some really obscure clubs in the north of England I feel let down slagging him off, but then on the other hand he's down and out lazy these days, using little or no new techology. His mixing is still second to none, but his choice of tracks and effects are poor. Him and Tiger Woods should go out bowling

Hey?

I think is mixing is really poor now.

When you listen to some board members mixes and those from people like Ricky Ryan etc. he just doesn't seem to cut it any more.

#1738139Post 69 of 86

Re: Sasha @ Last Night On Earth Party, Blue Parrot - Playa del Carmen, Mexico (16.01.

Correct. Cant blame him for losing his passion though after this time. Its like footy players who get so much money they stop trying. He plays a shit set does he get dropped? Will he ever get dropped? No is the answer.

He doesnt put any thought into his sets anymore you can tell. He just gets a load of tracks and mixes them. What used to set him apart from others was the dynamics of his mixing. The intricacy and blend of sounds. Hes just doing what everyone else can do nowadays. In the old days no one could do what he did and he had records no one else knew what the fuck they were. Its well known he has people to sift through the music before it gets to him now too and that plays a big part.

Hes better and i mean much better when he does things like 6 mix and picks personal music. That mix was sasha of old. Loads of eclectic gems no fucker had noticed.

Im just glad I got him in his prime and am not contributing to his pay packet anymore. Why anyone would pay for this shite i dont know.

#1738154Post 70 of 86

Re: Sasha @ Last Night On Earth Party, Blue Parrot - Playa del Carmen, Mexico (16.01.

And that is a vicious circle as well, it is finding the tunes you think are absolute gems and getting exciting playing them to others that keeps you wanting to do it and keeps your sets exciting. When you are given tunes you probably think they're OK, but you don't get excited about them. so you just blend them together without much thought.

Sasha could take you on a proper journey, he managed to keep flow going for 3 hours and then completely change things around with a completely different feel, but you would still think, yeah that was spot on, no other track would have worked there as well as that did.

I listen to around 200 new releases every Sunday night, from those I narrow it down to around 30-50 in my carts, over the next few nights I play them and see what I think and tend to end up with around a dozen, enough to do an hour mix, maybe hour and a half. I do it for fun, he does it for a living and I bet he doesn't listen to as many new releases as many on here do.

Sometimes if I only get 10-15 tracks after the first listen on a Sunday night, I then don't play them back during the week as I don't need to narrow them down, I have enough there for a mix, those mixes are the ones I tend to never really be happy with, tracks that start great but just get boring after a minute or two, or not enough flow between them. That is the sort of sets I feel Sasha is doing at the moment.

Re: Sasha @ Last Night On Earth Party, Blue Parrot - Playa del Carmen, Mexico (16.01.

First time posting, so go easy yeah.

Thought I'd hop on here as I was struggling to find any other decent forums centered around Sasha/Digweed and the likes.. Not that I'm saying this one is.

General consensus after reading this thread is that they're both 'past it' now in terms of producing quality sets like they apparently did pre 2000. Of course, I've heard all their compilations, as separate artists too, and the earlier stuff is amazing don't get me wrong.. but as someone else said, its not the 90s anymore and surely artists are running out of original things to do. Although I do agree Ame/Dixon and the Innervisions label as a whole are doing some pretty groundbreaking and forward thinking stuff.

I'm only 25, and have been into the scene perhaps 6years now properly. However these days I only go to perhaps 4/5 'nights' a year with the odd festival thrown in for good measure. There aren't many DJ's I enjoy seeing anymore, for numerous reasons, but Sasha and Digweed are 2 that I always go and see when they're playing in my hometown of Manchester.

All I'm saying is that yeah this set isn't his best, infact I did find it pretty boring and drawn out in places but generally speaking I enjoy his latest stuff just as much his early stuff and for the reason I still think Sasha is very, very relevant.

TLDR - I love Sasha even though this set was shit.
