Re: Involv3r ... what do you thing

Absolutely loved it!

Seems like a very different approach, with making full length clubtracks, and doing quite traditional mixing.

I do not feel there is one weak track really, only complaint is that its to damn short ;)

Re: Involv3r ... what do you think?

Great tracks, and a fine 'club mix' but....I was hoping it was going to be a seemless journey through these tracks, and that it certainly isn't.

Re: Involv3r ... what do you think?

My opinion:

  • Individually excellent remixes.
  • As a whole, I found the mix enjoyable, though a bit too vocal for my liking. About half the amount of vocals overall would have been preferable.
  • I also find the mixing transitions a bit primitive compared to his live efforts or previous studio work. I expect this is due to the rushed nature of the mix in the final weeks. Yes the album took a long time, but a lot of effort had to be thrown out, and there was a rush at the end judging by the tweets.
  • As a package overall, I still find it a very good piece of work and well worth the money. Not quite as good as the previous two Involvers perhaps but still very acceptable.
  • Overall: 8/10. (For comparison, I would put the previous two Involvers at 8.5/10, and while it is a different concept, ADD at 10/10)
  • Additionally, I would say it is a shame that this album has probably prevented some official live mixes being released during the last 12 months. I really enjoyed the official live releases from Panorama Bar (August 2011), Womb (April 2011), MOS (December 2010).

Re: Involv3r ... what do you think?

I really like it. It gets better after each listening.

It reminds me of the years before 2000 when he played more vocals then in recent years.

Moment Before Dreaming (Sasha Involv3r Remix) - Ananada project, the best track, I can´t stop listening to it.

Re: Involv3r ... what do you think?

As per someone saying above I also think could have had less vocals.....some dark dub type tracks

Re: Involv3r ... what do you think?

I think it is an absolute disgrace for someone at Sasha's supposed level.

The mixing should be flawless , it isn't, sounds as though it was thrown together at the last moment. After how many years. ???

It lacks coherence .

It not only has too many vocals , they are bad vocals, surely he could have found tracks where the voices were actually good.?? Or , as some of the tracks were great without vocals , used them without.

I have a feeling one of the reasons he redid it was the success of flutes commercially. Even if he didn't use it here, there is definitely an echo in spots. And the same MO . Repetitive, low complexity , making it very accessible to the masses.

Which means it will probably outsell everything that went before.

There are some great tracks but as a album it just doesn't cut it. It's almost the exact opposite of what I love.

couldn't have put it better myself, some good tracks but badly put together and no flow, but its already climbing the itunes chart so Sasha won't care too much

Re: Involv3r ... what do you think?

I have not good things to say about this.

#1675679Post 22 of 59

Re: Involv3r ... what do you think?

The tracks themselves are great, I have listened to the individual tracks and as remixes they are superb, however.....

The way it is put together just stinks of him being bored of it all.

The way some of the transitions happen it just breaks the flow completely.

Also, this should have been a 2 hour mix with some long transitions, he has chopped the best bits of some of the tracks out to make them fit the CD, but he has chopped the best bits out, we have loads of vocals but the fun trippy and blippy bits have been cut.

I am going to make myself a proper Involv3r mix as I love the tunes, but the mix itself is just poor, I know I can do far better.

Go on Gizze, maybe we should all have a go, see who can out Sasha Sasha

#1675710Post 24 of 59

Re: Involv3r ... what do you think?

I've done mine this morning.

It is 1h40mins, and has more flow, but more importantly some of the best bits of the tracks where they go all blippy and trippy are still in there.

Not sure where to upload it though, Soundcloud will probably pull it down?

Re: Involv3r ... what do you think?

Someone I know has put up a soundcloud tribute to all the involvers, and it's still there. Just don't name it involver 3

I still can't get over the fact that a dj who has been such an important figure in the history of EDM could actually put this out. You would think he would care how his work is presented.

I don't think that's purely down to him, more like pressure from the label who wanted to get it out, when it was GU there was probably a lot more flexibility but MOS probably just wanted a commercial hit

#1675714Post 28 of 59

Re: Involv3r ... what do you think?

I think he was just completely bored of all the tracks by the time he had to put the mix together.

Having said that, this is my take on it, done in under 6 hours and that included listening back one and making 2 changes. If I listen again I am sure there are things that I would change, but reckon a dozen listens over 2 weeks would get it into a package I was completely happy with, and surely that is what Sasha should have done? He even said that he has never listened to it back.

Re: Involv3r ... what do you think?

A lot of the tracks were quite new though as a lot of the tracks he wanted to use originally he couldn't for one reason or another, only Battleships, the Healing and XX have been in a lot if his sets, the others haven't been played that much

That actually makes sense. It fits in with what I said about capitalising on the commercial success of flutes.

Why would it be hard for Sasha to get tracks.?? Who wouldn't want to be on Sasha's Album ???

Re: Involv3r ... what do you think?

Licensing problems or for one reason or another the stems and parts weren't available, I know that the Hotchip singles success made it a lot easier to get tracks though

But he had them all as stems, so he had been constructing the remixes for the last 6 months, after messing around with a track like that for ages it starts to get on your tits. It also changes the way you hear things in it, spend to long trying to do a deconstructed mixeset and you start to miss things that others hear that don't work. I did a stripped down mix of Silicone Soul tracks and remixes, and the first edit was actually the best, the one I spent a few weeks on just didn't flow, or sounded like I had slammed things in, where as there was never really two points where there was only one track playing.

I think he spent too long on the remixes and was then sick of hearing the tracks, he should have listened back a few times before releasing it as there is about 4 points where I think he would have changed things.

#1675721Post 33 of 59

Re: Involv3r ... what do you think?

That Battleships track in particular he said he totally over tweaked it and in the end the first version was probably better

#1675729Post 34 of 59

Re: Involv3r ... what do you think?

I'm with a lot of you. Great remixes by themselves, but how they were mixed just seemed totally rushed. My biggest complaint is the new remix of "The Healing" the one he played last year killed this one. Loved how it just went nuts with the full on melody while this new one did not. I was really hoping to get the older version. Now we probably never will

Re: Involv3r ... what do you think?

Battleships and Ananda Project remixes drive me nutz

Had a listen to this last night and its certainly mixed better than Sashas, if I was being hyper critical I would say that your running order is a bit strange (you have one of the most banging tracks right near the beginning) and to make the mix a but shorter I may have dropped one or two tracks but apart from that good effort

#1675797Post 37 of 59

Re: Involv3r ... what do you think?

I would definitely have dropped two tracks from that set.

The second track, or was it third can't remember now, I put there to get things going, otherwise I think a lot of folk who maybe put off by loads of vocals might drift off from it, but something a bit banging up front and it makes people give it a bit more of a chance?

#1675798Post 38 of 59

Re: Involv3r ... what do you think?

Having said that, I only listened to it once, and that is the problem, I do think something like this, a studio set designed to be listened to at home needs to be listened to a dozen times to get it right, I listened once and all I changed was the way I mixed tracks in, not running order, I was listening to whether transitions worked and not as a 2 hour piece of music, and I think that is what is the problem with the original, never listened back.

#1675852Post 39 of 59

Re: Involv3r ... what do you think?

Guys you are too harsh on him. There are some superb tracks on it, and yes, mixing isn't top notch but is listenable and his selection still belongs to the best out there. I know the expectations have been really high but i believe this is a typical grower album. And his smalltalk remix is just pure ace. It's not as unique as first two ones, but compare it to all the compilations that come out every week..

#1675861Post 40 of 59

Re: Involv3r ... what do you think?

We shouldn't have to make excuse for a top Dj. If Hernan ever did anything like this I would drop him so fast his head would spin. Thankfully that will never happen. ;)

Sasha commands top dollar we are entitled to expect the best.

It isn't just a matter of a good Dj doing music I don't like, I can still respect that if they are doing it right. This very much isn't right !!
