Re: Andrew Weatherall - 6 Mix (BBC 6 Music) (21-11-2010)

To kick off Primal Scream week, DJ Andrew Weatherall hosts a special 6 Mix, discussing his role as producer of Primal Scream's seminal 'Screamadelica' album and playing the tunes which inspired the album. Since its release in 1991, 'Screamadelica' has cemented its reputation as a classic of its genre, carving out a fresh new sound for alternative music and even being honoured with its own, limited edition, postage stamp. As the band prepare to play the album in its entirety for the first time since its release 19 years ago with Weatherall as DJ, Andrew, with the help of notes from singer Bobby Gillespie, delves into his record collection to pick out some of the music they were listening to between 1989 to 1991. Weatherall plays tunes by Jah Wobble, Public Image LTD, Chairman Of the Board and Suicide, and talks about how tunes by Can, Isaac Hayes and more soundtracked the studio sessions, the gigs and late nights on the tourbus afterwards. He also sets the scene of how post-rock, dance and soul collided to inform Screamadelica's unique sonic.
