So do u think every big DJ in the world that you hear and love plays only tracks they bought or cleared from record labels?? I never heard anyone tell me that its not O.K. to play unreleased tracks. It's usually a challenge to get the tracks in the first place, and if you can find them, im under the opinion that you should be able to play them or whatever else you choose to play (it's not like i take credit for the tracks, if anything i am exposing the song).
And yes, i do buy most of my tracks.

umm try asking any of the producers of those tracks what they think about it. i'm pretty sure they'd beg to differ.

#349538Post 21 of 44

if any of the tracks that aren't re-edited/remixed are not released yet, I suggest you take this post down unless you've been given permission from the producer.

what's that trade off again?

Struggling DJ vs. Struggling Producer

#349829Post 22 of 44

the mix is great man

#349846Post 23 of 44

soulseek is unhealthy for the music scene, even though it makes life the shit for most of us.

selling 1000 records these days is a big deal

#353223Post 24 of 44

Re: SICK 2005 PROMO MIX!

this is a nice mix. but you shouldn't include unreleased tracks on a mix unless you have been handed the track by the producer him / herself and have been granted permission to do so by that producer. there is a ton of great music out there that is already released. trust me i know a great, travelling dj that finds tons of amazing, already released material. just look harder.

I believe you can get the rachel track on www.releaserecords.com

don't know about the second. But SLSK is a prog dj's best friend when it comes to checking out the new stuff.

Re: SICK 2005 PROMO MIX!

I downloaded the mix some days ago... and man it's great! Not only the tracks (specially track 1; that female voice just makes me crazy) but alltogether. Nice job!

Cumpliments from Spain 8)

hey Maurbv01, maybe you should rename the mix to SLSK 2005 PROMO MIX [ :) sorry mate, i couldn't resist ] i wasnt gonna say anything but it seems that you dont quite get the point that the people who replied to you were trying to make. im not picking on you. it just doesnt look right what you have done and then the way you defended it. you deleted most of your comments which showed your flawed argument, so i cant quote them but just think about this: how many threads can you find on this board posted by bedroom djs that contain unreleased (or unsigned) tracks? i dont remember seeing more than probably one before you posted yours. Nobody ever told you it is not ok to use unreleased material without permission? It is kinda common sense, you dont need somebody to tell you so mate. my prediction is, if you are trying to make it in the music scene with this attitude, i wouldn't think you'd go too far. also what you said before about a dj making money from gigs and the same dj not caring if his unreleased track was circulating around the internet - you are forgetting that not all producers are good djs and also some producers do not dj at all. im not saying your mix is bad, it looks like people liked it. but if you have the tallent, you could have made an outstanding mix from old and recent tracks instead of this. i know its hard to get noticed nowadays, everyone is a dj .... :|

Listen man, i read ur post, and i respect what u said. Now to answer ur question as to why i erased all my posts earlier bc 3d_1200 erased all his, so it looked like i was upset for no reason. Bro, anyone that knows me, knows im not argumentative. I didnt post this set to start a war. In fact, this set has been posted on a lot of other forums and everything has gone incredibly smooth, there was no 3d_1200 to bust my balls.

Bottom line, I will always use soulseek, and so will millions of other people. If you guys want to profess righteousness and act like u do everything by the book, then so be it. TO EACH HIS OWN

Let ur conscience be ur guide.

This set is unreal, love it to death. Good job man

#354663Post 31 of 44

this mix fucking rocks!!!

keep them coming, I dont give a shit how you do them!

#354834Post 32 of 44

Nice mix. But can someone explain what exactly is the damage done here? The promotional benefits, just like with a known dj, are clear. But are producers afraid that people are gonna rip the tunes out of mixes like this and not buy them or something. Why wouldnt they give permission, can someone clarify?

#355167Post 33 of 44

Dude this is exactly the question i have been wondering. If anything, playing a new track only exposes an artist. When people get on my case about support issues, i just want to laugh in their face. Makes no sense. Glad u enjoyed the mix none the less.

Or does it? Have you thought that maybe the producer doesn't want it out yet, regardless of YOUR view? IE: Soultan and TD's remix of Smooth Criminal got leaked and now it won't see a release. You have the capability of pissing off a producer that just maybe doesn't want their work out yet. So once again, please keep unreleased tracks that you don't have permission for (or haven't been handed a cd for from the producer themselves) under your belt.

#355614Post 37 of 44

what a fantastic mix, especially track 10, awesome, keep it up

#355766Post 38 of 44

I don't think him spinning a new mix of smooth criminal will keep it from being released. If it doesn't than sultan and TD are not too bright to not release it. I understand playing something that new myself. And I guess fortunately I don't have cd players to make mixes out of brand new songs.

If sultan and td didn't want their track to get online. They shouldn't have sent it to so many people when they got it done. You have to be very careful about whom you send promos to.

I'll be sure to listen to this mix as soon as I get the chance.

#356235Post 39 of 44

haha..and the saga of unreleased tracks continues! Jeffrey Collins let me know what you think of the mix man! I agree w/ you, if a few people spinning an unreleased track impact the release date of the track then that artist is a complete idiot.

I for one LOVE when locals or nu-breeds play unreleased stuff, not only does it help me learn what else is out there, but its a definitive approach which more then likely means the mix will sound somewhat unique.

You got that right brother. If it weren't for mixes like yours and Digweeds and ALL the other dj's that I can now hear as a result of MS and the wonderful world of the internet. I wouldn't know about one eighth of the tracks I know of.
