Re: Charlie May -Triple JJJ (2010-01-23)

Why is this a problem ?? I recorded it as well and it sounded really good until I heard this version  I can change the soundcloud one to mp3 . and reup it. If you have Itunes it's very simple. The soundcloud version is definitely better. It's 256.

I don't have Ipoons and I'm proud of that fact. ;) I shudder at the thought of a world that is confined by that single application but it seems to be taking shape.

Re: Charlie May -Triple JJJ (2010-01-23)

Like we have said before about Charlie's mixes and music ... He Hates the mp3 format and we will never give mp3s out .. Only m4a or wav's

If you wanna convert yourself thats fine...

There are many excellent players that support aac decoding, You don't need Ipoons, Ipoons bad.

With Itunes it isn't simple!

Re: Charlie May -Triple JJJ (2010-01-23)

Fair enough, there are other decoders besides Itunes available indeed. I actually had forgotten about Charlie's silly hate campaign against the MP3 format (I'd love to see his double blind listening test results favoring AAC over MP3 at 256 kbps). Frankly, if he's going to be so deadset in his belief, he should forgo lossy altogether and rip to FLAC.

Re: Charlie May -Triple JJJ (2010-01-23)

Well you can do it yourself !! This is converted to 256 mp3. How many would download in FLAC?? He is generously giving us what he believes is the best. So I say good on him!! And thanks heaps !! :D

Btw this is incredibly easy in Itunes.

#1327687Post 17 of 55

Re: Charlie May -Triple JJJ (2010-01-23)

I don't need the MP3 on the PC (and I wasn't asking for the MP3 either, though I thank you for the link)...Winamp has the decoder available (and like I said, "there are other decoders besides Itunes"). Besides, transcoding from AAC to MP3 is silly because it reduces the quality even further. ;)

For someone so nitpicky about quality like Charlie, he could simply put up the FLAC and the end user could transcode it (without loss) to the format of his/her choice. Hell, I'm sure such a person would gladly transcode it to MP3 and share here for those who don't get hung up on bitrates, formats, transparency, etc. (like was kindly done by yourself with the AAC-->MP3 transcode).

Re: Charlie May -Triple JJJ (2010-01-23)

There are people who obviously don't realize that flac is just a compressor for music, just like winrar or winzip. And that when they play it they listen to the original wav and if they don't like it they can decode it without any loss.

Re: Charlie May -Triple JJJ (2010-01-23)

True...education is definitely important. I passed the suggestion along to Neil @ 53db.com in any case and he said they were aware of the format. Hopefully, they can pass on some education to Charlie if he is not aware...and maybe at some distant point in the future when we all have tin ears, lossless audio downloads will be the norm as opposed to the exception. :) FLAC just seems to be in the best position to do this...most mature, a multitude of hardware support, platform agnostic, etc.
I don't need the MP3 on the PC (and I wasn't asking for the MP3 either, though I thank you for the link)...).
You wanted to compare, but actually I transcoded it for those who did ask :) Btw, I chose 256 VBR mp3 and it actually came out as 300, and the quality is better than my actual recording from JJJ .

Re: Charlie May -Triple JJJ (2010-01-23)

Yes, Didi, the Soundcloud file sounds wonderful. I listened to it myself. The point is not everyone has the ease to play this format. I'm not so sure what's bad about envisioning a lossless future? It solves all issues of compatibility as opposed to jumping to an oftentimes incompatible competing lossy format.

Re: Charlie May -Triple JJJ (2010-01-23)

Whether May's dislike of mp3s is justified or eccentric, it's his set, let him release it in whatever he wants. I run whatever I need to listen to the formats the music comes in. On the Mac, you can run Cog as an alternative to iTunes, it is most like fubar2000.

Re: Charlie May -Triple JJJ (2010-01-23)

Just checking, but I have an awful sneaking suspicion I have been overly efficient and dumped mine when I got the better quality one off soundcloud. I'm making enquiries on our local forum.

Still have it .:D Will upload. :D Should have known I wouldn't be that efficient.
