Re: Laurent Garnier + Layo & Bushwacka @ End London 31-12-2008 (500MB)
I finished listening to this 9+ hour set a little while, ago, and what's my name, please? I think I lost it back in Hour Five . . .
Seriously, though, the sheer breadth of the set became an impediment to critique and even listening experience you just don't get kicking back with a wimpy hour-long comp. This isn't cardio-at-the-gym, this is a part-time job. This is a commitment. Eventually, I gave up on trying to hold on to a "feel" for the entirety of the thing--or, at least, the arcs of the respective artists--and just went with it.
Thus, my random responses:
The Unknown Track at 1:24:00 has exactly the sort of bassline I love. Rolling? Sneaky? Unbranching? I want to marry it.
Layo and Bushwacka dip into the classic, but only once do they come close to "too classic" for my tastes. But only once.
Both Ane Brun's "Headphone Silence" and Omar's "Feeling You" are both receive fantastic remixes. Henrik Schwarz is the man.
Around Hour Five, I began to experience i-wish-i-was-there Set Envy.
Garnier's shift into drum'n'bass is a welcome change . . . until Nancy Sinatra's "Boots Are Made For Walkin'." Ai.
Around Hour Seven, it really gets kind of intense.
The earlier post about Rennie Foster's "Devils Water" was right. It sounds awesome. So does the track after it. Really, really awesome.
Overall, these are great sets. Garnier's loses its momentum a few times, but picks it up, again. I'm sure the folks present had no complaints.
