Re: Anthony Pappa Live @ Darkbeat Australia 14-06-08
Decided to finally check this out. Is that him tapping at the start of Pt 2? It's fucking irritating, I couldn't tell if it's him tapping or something to do with the recording or equipment skipping.
Otherwise sounding like a good set with solid pacing. Quite different from the last time I caught him banging it out.
Tapping is one way of describing it. He is after all an accomplished percusionist and his ability to use the CDJ's beyond the normal is quite legendary,
According to reports from the gig, I think that the track you may be refering to is Paco Osuna - Transheet - Plus 8 Records ".......the vocal actually has a time stretched ping pong echo , but when pappa had the start of it on a hot cue , he had the ability to bring the section back when ever and how ever he pleases. To have everything at 12 oclock your timing to hot cue a vocal that has no kick drum or percussion and intuitivley automatically correct it before a mistake is made is totally unbelievable to execute it every. single. time he does it. He played 5 1/2 hours all seamless, some mixes weaving in and out over 20 + minute periods.
When we had to physically lift the CDJ up off the stand in the air so he could hit the cues like a drum machine will be something that will go down in Darkbeat history
Rollin Connection posting on inthemix.
Now it may not pay off on a D/L but the man is an entertainer and a genius behind the decks
