Re: WMC Blows

Sasha had major issues at the one party ejecting cds during his mix and then starting them over again - don't know if it was b/c he was drunk or not... but who knows if that set will appear anywhere

Ahaha, true dat. I could care less about a half awesome set. Besides, Digweed @ Vagabond was enough to make the title of this thread a ridiculous statement. You were there, you know.

oh man, we have been hating Tiesto here for years, but Diggers and Sasha have lost it musically if you like the proggy sound that made them both famous. Digweed has gone way out on the electro/minimal blippy ticktock side along with Zabs, and Sasha seems to be pulling back toward the middle some. They were all better a few years ago, but not today for the majority of their efforts.

Maybe the excitement of their live sets is just that, excitement of their live set, not the musical content. Who really cares, give me Polheredia, D-Phrag, Tarkan, Garcia, V-Sag, dPen, DiKomm, Krisztian, OlliS, Kleijn, DeepZ, Baq, Boscarino, Paul, Hassan Kamel, GPal, Kintar & Rex, Andro, Snake, Yvel -Tristan, Latenta Project, Alexandar, Lacandon, Shiva, Lokitas, Lemon8, Luke Fair, Miika Kuisma, Mazi, OgiCash, Taucher, Python, Sultan, BalErik, NVO, Federico Epis, Dandy, Barish Turker, Federico Monchesi, Sasha Le Monnier, and so so so many other Dj's who are so much better in the sound I like to hear. Oh, and don't forget ... progressive is dead you know.

Thanks digweed for moving out and allowing dozens to move in. Yet I still listen to him, love and respect what he did for the electronica underground music world from many years back to today. Respect to those guys!!! :)

But what do I know, I'm just a fool for the progressive movement, which will never die as some acclaim.

i strongly disagree. digweed is on the top of his game and is far far above and beyond where anybody else is. just ask anybody who saw him play at vagabond.

Re: WMC Blows

Just wanted to chime in here...

First off, I'm a South Florida local, and have attended / particpated (in some capacity), every WMC since 1992. And I've gotta say it certainly doesn't have the clout and the overall pull that it once had. It used to be a respectable forum for exposing new artists, breaking new music, and (up until several years ago) WMC always seemed to include a rather impressive display of technique, talent, and technology. And now, well I won't say anything more than, it just isn't the same...

I could spend a day listing all of the well-known dance labels, who haven't sent a rep, dj, or artist to WMC in years. The networking and distribution aspect of WMC, just isn't the same; but then again, the industry and the distribution aspects certainly have changed over the 15-20 years as well...

So while Sasha and Digweed will continue to shine (they're both legends, hands down), and will continue to dominate the next several conferences, I wouldn't expect to see/hear anything new or earth-shattering at WMC next year. It's become little more than a vacation spot for the industry to get away from the cold, party for a week straight, and hear several hundred dj's, all pretty much playing the same music...

I still enjoy a few of the smaller, low-key events at WMC, as Miami nightlife (South Beach) usually sucks for about 50 or so weeks a year... Here most of the dj's play little more than booty-rockin breakbeats, 80's rock hits, cheesy hip-hop, or unbearable commercial / vanilla trance (i.e. Tiesto).

However, if next year rolls around, and you need to get out of the cold, work on your tan, and party with the Eurotrash; then you might just get lucky, and stumble across one of the handful of events that can truly change the way you think about music...

Just my 2 cents...

So....if what you say about it is true, shouldn't you be asking for this set instead? Sasha and Digweed worship is old hat and done in an overabundance already.

ironic you say that as that "downfall" of disco is what led to a lot of the electronic music we know and love today... ;)
ironic you say that as that "downfall" of disco is what led to a lot of the electronic music we know and love today... ;)
Maybe even deeper than that, disco may have led to House genres, but not techno, which is part of electronica too. New Age music may have led to Ambient, Chill, and even Progressive. What did Rock lead to?

Just got me thinking here, hehe :)

#994141Post 30 of 37

Re: WMC Blows

house came from the paradise garage. ambient came from brian eno. rock came from blues music.

true, i realized that after i posted....but in a way electro is going back to that disco type era.......maybe i miss the sound of 1999-2003...especially within prog house/ prog trance....especially some of pappa's classic sets, sander, good tribal.......before ableton and cds, when dj's spun vinyl, and didn't rely on MACs........just a rant thanks for pointing that out though.

Re: WMC Blows

dying to hear some WMC freshness. remember sasha's 06 WMC set? the really epic one? sickkkkkkk diggers 06 was amazing too. 07' was such a tease, only 1 hour by diggers. and 07' wmc sasha set had alot of repeat songs on it.

Re: WMC Blows
house came from the paradise garage. ambient came from brian eno. rock came from blues music.
what is paradise garage? If house isn't an evolution of disco, then why is so much of todays house sound remixes and various styles of disco from yesterday. Maybe it would help if I knew the definition of 'paradise' garage. Wouldn't you say, garage led to grunge.

Of course blues led to rock, but what did rock lead too?
Alternative, and maybe metal.

And would you say techno led to electro?

Then my last wondering thought is .... where the hell did minimal come from? hehe, maybe skipping vinyl. :)
