Looks hot...too bad sendspace is down. :x Nevermind, worked on the fourth try (paid to be persistent ;)).

Is this Kimball Collins by the way...or some other Kimball?

Re: Kimball Live @ The Colisseum (Daytona Beach) 1992

Yes this is Kimball Collins. As far as the YAP goes, I think it was only sampled (I could be wrong). I know it is in there but because the tape actually starts out with Rhythm Invention I started with that. Some of the tracks I used to know, but after 16 years it's hard to remember them! First post updated with Side B
from an era when kimball was considered a God.... thanks funky D
because of the big Green Alien Head hanging high above you at AAAhz with room so dark filled with fog. All you could see was the big green head while intoixcated and on a chocolate chip bean...definitely an outer body experience.

I remember this tape. I believe this was when he got back from his first trip to the UK and the jungle breakbeat sound was huge. He brought back alot of ragga breakbeat like Dee Patten and Leftfield. Lots of stuff from Hardhands, Moving Shadow and Suburban Bass record labels.

I owned 90% of the tunes when I played at the original Pensacola Bedlam Afterhours club. Yes, lots of great memories remembered and brain cells lost.

SWEET!, Thanks again Funky Dredd! I don't hear much about Kimball anymore. Where did he go? Thanks, Rick

#967293Post 19 of 37

Re: Kimball Live @ The Colisseum (Daytona Beach) 1992

I wouldn't have the slightest idea where he is at. I never really followed him to begin with, I was more of the Andy Hughes and Chris Fortier follower. Once him and Andy had their run in at MARZ and almost came to blows I didn't think too highly of the guy...

#967301Post 20 of 37

Re: Kimball Live @ The Colisseum (Daytona Beach) 1992

far as i know kimball started his incredible decline around '99 when he started being quoted as calling s&d sellouts in his inlay covers for "United State Of Trance" discs or whatever those horrendous releases were. it was a sad moment in time for this music since he was so highly respected back then. but he really took a face dive off the scene.

#967335Post 21 of 37

Re: Kimball Live @ The Colisseum (Daytona Beach) 1992

I always thought it was way before then :D

#967339Post 22 of 37

Re: Kimball Live @ The Colisseum (Daytona Beach) 1992

surely my conclusive guestimation is off, but i remember reading such info on one of his discs and writing him off as a dunce myself. his "united dj's of america" mix will always be in my top few, but as for his attitude he took the piss.

#967378Post 23 of 37

Re: Kimball Live @ The Colisseum (Daytona Beach) 1992

I always thought it was 96 or so, and I have never listened to his Untied Dj's mix. His head was fairly large by that time though which is probably why I never got it.

#967401Post 24 of 37

Re: Kimball Live @ The Colisseum (Daytona Beach) 1992

united came out in 94, but to his credit he was resident at 3 of the top clubs in the us when clubnights came out.

i thought he was a good dj, dont know him in person so.....

anyway thanks for the mixes dredd

Dredd, I have a white label of the instrumental AND the vocal mix on MP3...definitely a different track confirmed. But do make that determination for yourself if you wish. :)

Me and my friends were the same way with Andy. Honestly though I am grateful for both of them and everyone else who was involved with Orlando / Florida parties in the early through mid 90's. Some of the best times of my life. Speaking of Mr. Hughes and mix tapes you wouldn't happen to have any of those gray 90 minute Maxell mix tapes by any chance?

Re: Kimball Live @ The Colisseum (Daytona Beach) 1992

thank you so very much for a documented drive down memory lane. i'll never forget to mega huge kimball nights in my mind, when he and joe t. vanelli played at simons, and also when kimball was nice enough to stick around and play for me and two of my best friends at firestone new years 1995. nothing like having the whole floor to yourself, buried in way too much smoke-machine fog... cuttin' the rug to baker street.
