Thanks for this, is hawtin's style becoming more laid back, like slower BPM? Or are my ears getting numb to it all?
Re: Richie Hawtin - BBC Radio 1's Essential Mix (2016-01-30) Recorded Live at Exchang
I think a lot of people have pitched down lately (interesting how Danny Tenaglia talked about doing this back when Global Underground 10 - Athens came out). Also..it's LA. :D

very boring set:(
Re: Richie Hawtin - BBC Radio 1's Essential Mix (2016-01-30) Recorded Live at Exchang
My idea of Hawtin (in his "Superstar DJ" persona) is that he's never been relevant. When was the last time you have liked a set of his or discovered a great track though him? Can you tell two Magda sets apart?
Re: Richie Hawtin - BBC Radio 1's Essential Mix (2016-01-30) Recorded Live at Exchang
Saw him live in Dublin a few years and and he destroyed the place, great night. But if I was to hear the set on my iPod then I wouldn't be able to listen to it for more then a few mins before getting bored.
He works better in a lI've setting.

so why did you upload his set to your personal account?
I would never record or archive any shit music on my HDD or providers / hosters like mixcloud etc. for others. Never!!! This all should be personal according to his own taste. Everything else makes it implausible Lorenzo !
Hawtin was never interesting for me, but "He works better in a lI've setting" could be a good and real statement ;)
btw. the essential of the year is coming in 2 month :) Ame b2b Dixon full of unreleased tunes yeahhhhhhhhhhhhhh

Evil, every Saturday morning I post the new Essential Mix, whether I like the artist or not.
This one is really good. And it's a free CD.

Re: Richie Hawtin - BBC Radio 1's Essential Mix (2016-01-30) Recorded Live at Exchang
Americans have no idea do they? Poor bastards thinking this is techno. It's about as techno as my underwear. Electro House, maybe hard house something like that but its a country mile away from techno. One thing we can be certain of is that with any Pete Tong recording you are guaranteed plenty of fucking talking. What makes the BBC think I need to know accounts from clubbers travelling 6 hours to get to the venue escapes me. I bet Tong doesnt talk through his own sets, fucking fat round faced man boobed twat
Re: Richie Hawtin - BBC Radio 1's Essential Mix (2016-01-30) Recorded Live at Exchang
@Model It's got nothing to do with Americans or Europeans or Asians or anything like that. Some people are educated and some aren't. If you've been listening to this music since the late 90's...you're probably going to know a lot more than someone who heard Axwell two summer's ago and now likes EDM. Maybe you've never listened to this music before but you watched documentaries like "Liquid Vinyl" or "Pump Up The Volume" and therefor actually know something.

agree! this is more tech house than techno but hawtin will always be associated with techno so no matter what he does it'll be techno in every ones eyes
Re: Richie Hawtin - BBC Radio 1's Essential Mix (2016-01-30) Recorded Live at Exchang
Haven't heard it yet but tech house isn't that far removed from techno. Considering folks even in this thread can't agree if it's electro house, hard house, or tech house shows how easily subgenres can bleed into one another. Chins ready. prepare to stroke. ;) Given that Detroit is arguably the birthplace of techno, let's not paint everyone on the continent with the same brush.
Re: Richie Hawtin - BBC Radio 1's Essential Mix (2016-01-30) Recorded Live at Exchang
Just to make things clearer:
In my opinion, Hawtin, the sexy superstar DJ, is hugely successful, crowds worship him but he's musically irrelevant. Not Plastikman or the Closer To The Edit experimentations, just his DJing.
Re: Richie Hawtin - BBC Radio 1's Essential Mix (2016-01-30) Recorded Live at Exchang
^^ Not In imho. His breakthrough track spastic released in Feb 1993 quite possibly before you were born let alone clubbing , was the first track of many, too many to even think about that used a mid range sweep layed over minimal percussion and not much else that pretty much defined the Detroit Minimal Techno sound pioneered by UR that Hawtin was originally so enamoured with being from just across the lake in Windsor Ontario. Yes his style of music works better in a live environment. But just to write him off as just a DJ is imho is doing him an injustice as his sound has been imitated to death.

That's Plastikman, Max, read the posts you're replying to :).
