Re: Ableton mix 4 weeks into learning
Do yourselves a favor and pick up this mix from Mike - it's Fan-tpoto-tastic. Gave it a listen the other night and it practically had me bouncing off the walls. Loved the snippets of 'Safari' in there.

Re: Ableton mix 4 weeks into learning
Hey Mike
You still need to give me time to play out the first two mixes. :D Glad to see another one up, have been doing a bit of research on ableton and it definitely offers a broader method of throwing in all those sounds that seem to constantly float around in the brain. The warp effect takes the cake.

well, warping is great (its just marking the beats out) cause once its done and saved you can throw that track down where you want it and beats are matched, but I find that if I hadnt learned that the hard way in the long run, I would be struggling with what tracks go together, and which DO NOT... if you know what I mean... You can still trainwreck in ableton, just in a new sort of way, lol.
Doors are opening in my creative process that I would be too pussy to dare try dropping in spinning off of CD or Vinyl (although I am so not remotely a vinyl DJ never have been) I am gonna remaster this last mix, it was great in my sennheiser's but on ohter systems I am getting distortion it seems... But that could be fun sometimes, lol
Great weekend everybody!
Re: Ableton mix 4 weeks into learning
Mike...Ableton is serving you well...It seems as tho the 3 of you are a great fit and were all meant for one another (and when I say "3" I mean you, your powerbook, and Live). I"m enjoying the mix, gonna try to catch it all tonight while I make a cd book for my Godskitchen people next weekend. Hope you're well, keep on doin' what you're doin', we gotta get the gang together soon!
Love the whispers behind the Clannad vocals...spooky and totally right up my alley, you always know what I like!! GMIM RULE!! :Smiling:
Oooh, and then some Kings of Convenience vocals? You shouldn't have! ;)

I am actually using 2 powerbooks at the moment, one for testing some work installation stability yawn but interesting.... the other is ableton-central.... mama love it! I can mix on the couch, and that's definitely a GOOD THING!
Let me know if u are around this weekend, we're gonna try and paint our kitchen....
Carlos and Anishka be out roomates now too, yeehaw :)

you too, if using ableton, can mash-up a treat like this one... only found the same version you speak of....
although the lovely and talented james zabiela has it on his NYE live mix that was on proton radio.....
thats where I heard it first.... GO JAMES!
Re: Ableton mix 4 weeks into learning
Is ableton as fun as nailing a mix on technics or does it have a different deeper musical feel to it? I like the idea but can't get past the feeling of dropping in a baseline standing in the middle of the steel wheels.
Re: Ableton mix 4 weeks into learning
great mix... I have turned through it a few times now and it gets better and better.
Thanks for the hook up
:D
Re: Ableton mix 4 weeks into learning
45min into the mix and WOW tnx the mix :!: :RightOn:
Re: Ableton mix 4 weeks into learning
Mike, I'm dling this now. Can't wait to listen to it. Seems like everyone is getting into Ableton these days :)
I'll give feedback as soon as I'm done giving it a proper listen :D

put it this way, I learned to spin off CD's, so technics never aroused me as you speak, I dig the music without heavy vinyl to carry :) lazy or digital, pick one:)
Re: Ableton mix 4 weeks into learning
thanks for the feedback everybody, its great to hear back and know if people are actually listenin out there :)
Re: Ableton mix 4 weeks into learning
great set, Mike! to tell you the truth, i checked the T/L and was interested in hearing what you did to a couple of tracks including Robophobia, only to find that it's not there(unless it was that bass fragment i thought i heard for a few seconds, but i i don't think so...)! so is it on another set of yours? if by some chance i missed it, would you be kind enough to point out the exact time in the set where you used that track? thanks in advance!

it was that bass fragment you thought u heard for a few seconds. I resequenced about half of the songs on the mix, but not robophobia...
