Re: Deep Dish - Essential Mix (BBC Radio 1) - 22-Mar-2014

Really like the first hour, the 2nd hour is to much boom boom techno in my opinion, but I'm looking forward to their next mix :D
Aww come on banned, why is it so crappy
two reasons... one... the stage.... as far as stages go theres is simply no one bigger or demanding than bbc radio 1's essential mix

two.... its supposed to be this all mighty come back, they had a chance here and simply didn't live up to the hype, a wasted opportunity

Re: Deep Dish - Essential Mix (BBC Radio 1) - 22-Mar-2014

There not going to sound like the old Deep Dish, i guess i went into this mix with that mindset... I dug it, and you know me im usualy all about the prog sounds but i actually liked the bumpin techno in this

Interested in checking this out. Hopefully I am not disappointed.

Re: Deep Dish - Essential Mix (BBC Radio 1) - 22-Mar-2014

I'm not a fan of listening to high hats and kick drums for two hours, but I still liked Dubfire's essential mix from a couple years ago more than this. That was at least something new....with really, really good set weaving. Personally I thought this EM was just a two hour mix that sounded more like Dubfire when he first went solo (records like Roadkill or his remix of Robbie Rivera's Float Away)...the second half....I don't even care to keep writing. That said, they played in DC a couple Sundays and the reviews were outstanding.

Re: Deep Dish - Essential Mix (BBC Radio 1) - 22-Mar-2014

I absolutely loved this mix even more so the second time around, yes it is hard at times (specially the second hour) but it still kept me interested and I can totally see my self going mental to this live.

Yes! I felt like this was a more upfront live sounding mix, it defently built up

Re: Deep Dish - Essential Mix (BBC Radio 1) - 22-Mar-2014

Maybe i'm in the minority...but i think this was a pretty bad. To be honest...my expectations where pretty low. Their first essential mix is an all time classic. But they lost the plot a while ago. With Sharam playing cheesy garbage...and Dubfire thinking he is Richie Hawtin. They lost the soul of their sound that made them such a great duo many, many years ago.

Re: Deep Dish - Essential Mix (BBC Radio 1) - 22-Mar-2014

Im still listening to this... Excellent programming as well on this. Never would think that dubfire exit track would go with that awesome Hot since 82 track but the flow into it is fast but just right....

Re: Deep Dish - Essential Mix (BBC Radio 1) - 22-Mar-2014

This was alot of fun to listen too. I really enjoyed this mix. Parts of it got downright sinister. Awesome stuff from the Deep Dish fellas.

Re: Deep Dish - Essential Mix (BBC Radio 1) - 22-Mar-2014

this is not deep dish ! dubfire and ali make just your´e own show !! no concept, no spirit !! but i hope, for a good happy end :)

#1712618Post 33 of 56

Re: Deep Dish - Essential Mix (BBC Radio 1) - 22-Mar-2014

It definitely sounds more like Dubfire/ Ali than a collaboration with Sharam.

Re: Deep Dish - Essential Mix (BBC Radio 1) - 22-Mar-2014

Personally I thought the first 20 - 25 minutes were as good as anything they did in their prime. Deep and dark just the way I like it - lovely stuff.

Inevitably they couldn't keep it up all the way through, but nothing as terrible as the stuff they played during their cheezy phase (2004-2008 ). The rot definitely set in when they started playing that god awful Dire Straits mash up. Definitely worth a second listen. Suspect I'll be playing that first bit A LOT more that that though!

I completly disagree, their GU Toronto was awesome, Defo not chezzy. They played very danceable house/progressive/whatever back then.

GU Toronto was 2003. Nothing to disagree with - check your facts ;)

I completely agree with you - not cheezy and was their last decent mix before it all went a bit Oakenfold. In fact I've been re-listening to it this week - onto disc 3 tomorrow!

I always felt the main two mixes didn't work, I don't know why! because there are some great tracks on it. The Afterclub mixes though, were fucking brilliant, probably the last great thing they did.
