Just listened to Sasha's new Involver mix BIG let down mate!! Who else feels this way?? To much deep house crap & vocals, their was a time that this guy was untouchable, everything he touched turned to Gold it seemed! Still have the Ibiza GU mix on rotation in my car. Had really high hopes for this release to put him back at #1 but it's really a reflection of what he's been playing most recently, a lot of deep house vocal tracks or whatever you want to call that garbage, just the same stuff everyone else is playing out there, nothing different, he should keep listening to that deep shit at home, puts me to sleep!! I was never into that in the old days or now. I got into Progressive because of Sasha & John Digweed, same thing happened to Oakenfold, went commercial trance, nothing special at all, play same crap all them other billion trance djs are playing. John Digweed seems to be the only old school progressive dj keeping it real in the game these days. Can anyone out there recommend some real cool up and coming Progressive djs & not that Swedish House Mafia crap either not prog house at all, just Boring commercial music, poor excuse for edm. Deep house is boring filler music for old farts.

Yeah, and another section on the sasha subforum.
Re: Sasha Involver 3 SUCKS, i'm sorry
Maybe we have to depress him more ^^. Remember when Invol2ver came out. There was a launch party recorded in London. It was a first class suicide mix :D.
It started with this track:
Re: Sasha Involver 3 SUCKS, i'm sorry
glad you like it man:)
Re: Sasha Involver 3 SUCKS, i'm sorry
Would prefer something more like Airdrawndagger
Re: Sasha Involver 3 SUCKS, i'm sorry
The man should never consider again to make an album without Charlie involved, that's what use to make his productions unstoppable, its the magic duo itself.
As for cool progressive DJ's, one that should be mentioned of course is Eelke Klejin, you probably already know.
Stumble upon this one, one of my favorite tunes from last year.

Re: Sasha Involver 3 SUCKS, i'm sorry
^ Killer tune. :D
Can I recommend the Argentinean DJs Marcelo Vasami and Martin Garcia? Also Hernan Cattaneo if you're you're not familiar with him. They all play nice prog house.
Re: Sasha Involver 3 SUCKS, i'm sorry
Guy j, Henry Saiz , Luis Junior , Cid inc. to name a few. There is a huge number of great Djs out there who are carrying on the progressive tradition !! :D

Re: Sasha Involver 3 SUCKS, i'm sorry
Hernan live sets tends to be really boring @ times. Sounds weird tho, cause most DJ's love playing @ warung, showcasing their best !.
Re: Sasha Involver 3 SUCKS, i'm sorry
^^^ How many live sets have you seen ?? Just added up how many I have seen him and it's 18 !! I have never heard him boring , I think there were two that I wasn't quite as keen on. Both more because of the techno content I think. One was actually a really good set, but he played quite a bit of music I didn't like as much . In fact I was talking to a techo DJ when he was playing and we were both commenting on what good techno it was . It was totally appropriate for the crowd and the time though. He is very crowd reactive :) The other 16  were all amazing for me. !! :D The majority 4 hours plus :)
He normally does do great sets at Warung according to reports. Haven't been lucky enough to see him there. La Huaka the following night was amazing , once again according to reports.

Re: Sasha Involver 3 SUCKS, i'm sorry
^ from this point of view, sounds fair enough, but then it all comes down to taste.
I don't necessarily find them boring, but heard it from lot of people during and after a gig.
I remember one of his recent live sets in Athens were many didn't like his direction of the mix, but i really enjoyed it !
Is just that i hate when clubbers come to listen to a particular DJ and they don't understand the music. There are very few that's actually ear trained :p to this type of electronic music @ least in my country. They are mostly mainstream, which isn't bad. Some come just to have a good time, others come for the music, some for both. But a good crowd who also knows for what he came for is really influencing the DJ and driving his gig to a better level.
Since we brought boring gigs to the table, i've been to 3 Sasha disappointing gigs, and he played for almost 2 hours. He looked tired, and not into place. But ibiza and Rhodes 2011, great gigs !.
Heres one question for you Trick :) whats the best place you've been, were you enjoyed being withat type of crowd mostly ?
Re: Sasha Involver 3 SUCKS, i'm sorry
does sasha and andother djs have debts ? how much they are taking forthe gig? i think that they have enough money for good life, but no one have balls to set new trends and fuck the whole industry palying 120bpm boring stuff. I think the whole hope is in young argentinians guys like ryan, garcia, vasani. sasha and others are just too old to make change.

Re: Sasha Involver 3 SUCKS, i'm sorry
Finally got around to listening to Involv3r this week and whilst I agree it was really, really dull the fact it had "deep house crap & vocals" had nothing to do with it. It was just a really poor selection of tunes, irrespective of whatever particular genre you want to pigeonhole them as, that had no contrast between them. Nothing stood out, the whole thing just plodded along. Not a patch on the first 2 mixes in the series.
I did enjoy the beatless CD though. Really nice to kick back and listen to before bed. I suspect that will get more plays than CD1, though admittedly that isn't hard.

In fact, his sound has changed much more than other DJs, whether you like the direction he took or not is a different question. The "prog sound" has been done for a long time now, it's not like these new guys are particular trailblazers either.
In fact, his sound has changed much more than other DJs, whether you like the direction he took or not is a different question
Might be true (I don't follow Sasha closely), but this holds equally true with the WOW whizkid hisself, Jody Wisternoff who would regularly play breaks (I actually miss this era to some extent) and mainly prog house (a few years prior to that, prog trance). Since then, there's been a lot of tech/vocal/electro/bass house and 80s/2-step material played.

My definition of progressive is exactly that, it progresses :) I think most of these new guys are doing that , the sound continually changes . So to me they are trailblazers . .But the most important thing isn't that it is "prog" or trailblazing , it is, as I said , in the progressive tradition, of being great, melody, sexy dance music  It's usually emotional. :)
I totally disagree with kolakao that Sasha hasn't changed, they all change, as a you said sometimes we like, sometimes we don't. I still long for the Satoshi of Nubreed. I most emphatically disagree that Sasha is too old to change  A lot of our very best Djs are older and they constantly change. I think the trick is to maintain their essence while they do change. :D Nick Warren is a great example of this over the last year or so, always loved Nick, but he seems to have a lot more emotion these days. :)
One thing I wholeheartedly agree with is the number of amazing Djs coming out of Argentina , but I have been saying that for years. Kevin Di Serna is another on my list at the moment. They are great producers as well !! :D
Re: Sasha Involver 3 SUCKS, i'm sorry
He is not so good as it was years ago. He lost something on the road.
Re: Sasha Involver 3 SUCKS, i'm sorry
Lets face it Sasha has been bad for longer than he was good. Why people listen to music by people who were good more than 10 years ago is anyone's business.

Re: Sasha Involver 3 SUCKS, i'm sorry
Sasha plays some blinding tunes. Always has done, always will, just that he tends to play them over and over again so his mixes get a bit boring. The tracks on Involver are all excellent, but he only plays the vocal sections, and misses loads of the trippy and blippy stuff, but then he has to fit 2 hours worth of tunes into and hour and 14 minutes.
The stuff he is playing now reminds me of the stuff he was playing in '92 and '93, then he went Prog in '95ish, to me this is what Sasha was all about, depends when you started listening to him.
Listen to the Bangkok & Harmony tapes.
Everyone will have favourite eras, probably the same time you were necking pills like they were M&Ms. ;)
Re: Sasha Involver 3 SUCKS, i'm sorry
Sasha has lost it.
Re: Sasha Involver 3 SUCKS, i'm sorry

Nail on head (my favourite era was probably 94-97 btw)

Re: Sasha Involver 3 SUCKS, i'm sorry
I hope maybe he can redeem himself by bringing the whole Global Underground GU series back since they seem to have been out of commission for like 2 years now, do they even exist at all now. Hopefully with a part 2 to that Ibiza mix, that would be awesome, hopefully w/ sick tunes and no Freaking BORING vocal deep house, I totally don't feel that genre at all, most boring of them all!!! If he can do that, I will never buy anything this guy makes again, I totally regret getting this Involver 3, now I remember why I stopped buying mix cds in the first place....Lol Thank you for posting these new djs, I have heard of some of alot of those but not Kevin Di Serna & some, please keep me up to date on the new djs like him, I have really enjoyed listening to Kevins mixes, also DL links if possible, thank you people & may the new Progressive music live forever, Bigup to all the Prog heads across the world, YOU ROCK!!!
Re: Sasha Involver 3 SUCKS, i'm sorry
I think Sasha has been done pretty much the last couple of years by the way, all the mixes I heard from him over the last couple of years have BORING!!! Who ever is into his new commerical vocal style now is Boring like him & not Progressive at all
Re: Sasha Involver 3 SUCKS, i'm sorry
Vocals have been a part of dance music since time immemorial. I'd pass on gaff (varies depending on the individual) vocals and love instrumentals as much as the next chinkstroker, but there's a time and place for 'em. In the aforementioned days of the old skool, it would not be uncommon to hear divas strewn about throughout the mix.

Of course yes. To be considered truly progressive you must continue to do the same thing you've done for the last 20 years
Re: Sasha Involver 3 SUCKS, i'm sorry
^^This.
Re: Sasha Involver 3 SUCKS, i'm sorry
No to the both of you above. Progressive literally does progress, just progresses in a lot better way than Sasha. :)
The progressive I love now doesn't sound at all like the progressive I loved 10 years ago, but it still retains the elements that made me love it. :) Sasha's CD seems to have lost those elements. :)
Re: Sasha Involver 3 SUCKS, i'm sorry
Seeing some recent sets from sasha , he seem to be lost.
Re: Sasha Involver 3 SUCKS, i'm sorry
Funny enough, neither Sasha nor Diggers for that matter are progressive djs at first place..yes,they have been linked to that genre since the beginning of their careers as flagmans, but really?! They are global act DJs and their genre is good electronic music,no matter of the genres and descriptions..someone said boring..for me boring dj means a dj who plays only one genre in his sets..so all proggy djs are boring then,eh ? :P (joke) That being said,i don't like Invol3ver too..there is no flow and some of the tracks are terrible...Sasha has been always a hit or mess for my taste,so i'm not surprised =)
