Judge with your ears. It is still hard to fathom how a Miami club could book someone like him in the first place. Forget about organizers' ignorance and there's nothing controversial or groundbreaking.

"Beginning in the Summer of 2012 with his Low End Theory guest spots, DJ Shadow's "All Basses Covered" set has morphed and evolved to incorporate as many different contemporary genres of urban and electronic music as possible. From hardcore rap to footwork and juke and beyond, Shadow has combed the web to curate seamless and dexterous blends of the most progressive sounds bubbling up from the underground.

'Too hard?' 'Too future?' Or just too raw? As always, DJ Shadow has provoked crucial flashpoints of discussion about the discipline of DJ'ing that have defined our turbulent times."

I Can't identify what kind of style it is, maybe, a little bit of everything. :D I hope this does not become a trend.

Not my kinda sound, wouldn't dance to it but don't mind listening to it from a corner  I can imagine why ppl don't like it in a club like that.

I think it's awful and I sympathize with those clubbers who just wanted to dance.

It sounds like a mash up for hip hop, drum n bass and dubstep.

Believe it or not, but this is much much better than the set he played here in NOLA. We could only handle about 45mins of it before we decided to split.

Flicked through - just sounds like a noisy and annoying cartoon.

Needed this to clear my mind of the experience.

Re: DJ Shadow - All Basses Covered (The Infamous South Beach Set, December 2012)

Loads of DJ's get bunged off the decks, Zabiela in Madrid, Digweed in Australia by Vath, Oakenfold in Clapham............

I remember hearing Endtroducing at an Elements afterparty and being completely blown away. His sets don't do much for me, but some of his tracks are amazing. There was an amazing interview in MixMag years ago about that album Whatever he does it means a lot to him and that's good enough for me

Re: DJ Shadow - All Basses Covered (The Infamous South Beach Set, December 2012)

amazing set, but not for people who never heard something else than sasha!

if you like Fly-Lo, GLK, you will also like this. If you dont know any of those two, stfu and beam you back into 1995 and listen to lame Adam Beyer stuff !

Future Music !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Future Music !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I've been jamming to this nonsense known as electronic dance music since '92 (no, not Sasha), so I am sure some of it is appealing (based on the SoundCloud comments alone...in fact, I see he pays homage to that very era), but there comes a point when you can go too far with weaving tapestries of disconnected sounds. And looking back at the past to try to fuse as many elements together as possible does not equate the future.

Re: DJ Shadow - All Basses Covered (The Infamous South Beach Set, December 2012)

Unless he's promoting an album, Shadow is a pretty experimental DJ - this wasn't one of my favorite mixes that he's done, but I like the fact that he's taking chances, and there are parts of the mix where I feel like he's on to something.

But playing an experimental set at a place like Mansion is kind of a bad idea - you could probably play something like this at a concert hall, but not a party oriented club like this.

Re: DJ Shadow - All Basses Covered (The Infamous South Beach Set, December 2012)

I just noticed that this mix is being sold on Beatport...Shadow himself must believe in what he's playing if that is the case. Also it's always interesting when opinions are so divided on a mix.

^Interesting points. Without the Miami incident there would be no controversy.
