How can we tell that the rebels aren't Mujahideen or Al Qaeda? Do they carry Al Qaeda badges? How do we know that once we arm them they won't use those weapons against us just like Afghanistan?

No because Al Qaeda is an imaginary organisation that never actually existed, outside the fantasies of governments, a throw back to the cold war. Sleeper Cells I've never known anything like it.
