Re: What is Going on in Egypt?
Maybe it's better to have your military running the country rather than someone else's military doing it by stealth though eh?
Re: What is Going on in Egypt?
Thanks for the first...but I could really do without hearing Mr. Fair-weather Political Opportunist capitalize on this so-called historic day (it was merely a week ago he was expressing support for the ousted dictator).
he wasn't there for the Iranians a few years ago. but now?
he's actually staying quite mum about this shit imo. he's letting the media talk him up as the savior of egyptian democracy. but in truth, i suspect he knows that the semblance of stability rests on a razors edge and can go quite sour very quickly. keeping mum, thus, prevents non-leftists from possibly jacking his quotes and using it against him.
Example:
Zero: "egypt is on a path to a new democracy thanks to my administrations hard work and commitment" July 2012: "Mr. President, after the world watched as an egyptian officer and mubarak acolyte has continued the military control of egypt over the past year and a half, how do you reflect on your previous statement as taking ownership of the successful revolution and the dire situation that has continued these past months?"
i think you get the idea....
keeping cards close to his chest: being re-elected is more important than being praised for something he didn't do and which could haunt him down the road
Re: What is Going on in Egypt?
ya maybe Bob, or maybe the military is just keeping the status quo because where do you think all those tanks and weapons came from?

that's not always true.
and lettuce be golden grahams, if one country stopped foreign aid and assistance to a specific country, another would step into its place.
i once believed ron paul was correct on this issue, but i've come to find that he's heavily short-sighted. he talks much of blowback in terms of our foreign policy, but never considers the blowback from inaction.

if not from one source, then another. or several others in fact.
Re: What is Going on in Egypt?
oh so the US is just doing a service then. I see
Re: What is Going on in Egypt?
oh so the US is just doing a service then. I see
Let's break this down for a minute.
You condemn the United States for supplying Egypt with fairly above-average weapons over the past two decades. You condemn the United States for sending foreign aid and ancillary assistance to Egypt over the same time period.
If it was not the United States who was doing this, and, instead, say, CHINA, for example, who was sending their own analogous (and copied) versions of our weapons, you'd be ok with this?
Oh wait, China is bad.
Instead, what if it was Russia/USSR who was supplying them? Still ok? Or not?
Ok, not them, what about UK? Oh wait, no not ok.
France? oh ..also not ok.
And so on down the line....
either you take arbitrary offense to a world superpower out-maneuvering other lesser countries, or you're just full of shit in thinking that Egypt was ever going to self-produce its own military equipment.
Re: What is Going on in Egypt?
No I wouldn't be ok with that either. I just want the US to mind its own business for once. Just once I would like to hear something happened in the world and it has nothing to do with the US. Thats what I want.
Re: What is Going on in Egypt?
the military just suspended the constitution.
Well that sounds like good news.

You want the US to mind its' own business so OTHER countries can step in. Basically, that's what you're insisting.
Hey, maybe the US can get out of South Korea too, For ONCE I just want the US to mind its own business.
Don't hear much about the US-Somalia connection. Or the US-Sudan connection. Or the US-North Korea connection. Perhaps you could focus your attention on those country's main papers for once?
Re: What is Going on in Egypt?
next you are gonna tell me that suspending the constitution is just standard protocol when the military takes over.
Re: What is Going on in Egypt?
I'm wondering if all of the people who were complaining that Zuckerberg was elected as Time's person of the year are stfu'ing a bit after what has happened the last couple of weeks, as it has been in large part been fueled by social media.

That's random. I assume you've got nothing else of significance to say?
You know my position on this because i've made it well known on this forum: anarchy is the least preferable form of 'governance'. they would have been WAY better off had they not declared martial law (not technically anarchy, but i'm being lazy and playing loose with generalization here).
To answer your question, I don't really know what the protocol is for a military coup qua the national constitution. I would imagine it all depends on what the military generals wanted to do and if suspending it, their reason for that?
ASSUREDLY the military will cease their control soon. Right?

Revolutions have occurred time and time again without the assistance of twitter or facebook.
The real difference here is that the egyptians were able to set this revolution in motion without having any legitimate alternatives in place. the speed of revolution which was afforded by digital and social networks may have come to bite them in the ass (now that i see the military has suspended the constitution).
I can still bitch about zuck being time's man of the year though, right? kinda beginning to think that facebook is like a mirror to the human soul, much like what zimbardo showed many years ago at stanford.

it varies from country to country. just look how well clinton's foreign aid appeasement package to north korea worked out.
Re: What is Going on in Egypt?
Not sure how thats a good example? Are you being sarcastic?
Re: What is Going on in Egypt?
Egypt's power is in its people, and not anything else. history proved it and we will continue to proof it.
egypt survived more than 4300 years without the US even being on the map so aid this?, and obv everyone knows by now where the aid has been going and why? the army have been using the past 30yrs in development, they made sure they got their rights through out the period and got their share unlike the citizens that has just been quiet and suffering, weather your rich or poor we all suffered from the chaos, traffic if ur in ur fancy car or hell in public transportation, we have the same public busses since 1980s, dirty streets and when the whole world advanced ahead of us we were going backwards altho we are one of the greatest civilizations in the world, and amongst all the crap it still remained one of the most amazing places on earth to me, and i visited more than 18 countries around the world.
RM, the army will be there just till the elections which shud be in the next 6month, and not really a dictatorship plus come on their has been dictatorship there for 30yrs im sure they can wait on a 6month one thats by their choice.
what happened in egypt showed lots of hidden things and made it clear, it really showed the true colors of many people
P.S. the US aid is much appreciated tho if it comes for the right reason and goes to the right place

This got a big coverage on Q@A here last night, and aside from the fact that everyone had to tell Egypt what it has to do now , it was quite good!! Loved the coverage of the the cleaning and painting going on.
Obama was right ! This belongs to the Egyptian people. !!

Funny you should mention that.
Pretty much everything I've said about egypt is on par with what this guy said - except if you look at the dates of my posts and the airing of this interview, you can tell who is cow-towing to who.

what difference does it make where a guy is from?? Anyway...this guy seems to be quite interesting...its the same dude that did the Chimerica Program. On the other hand he does argue some things I don't agree with historically...he does have a point about Egypt to some extent definitely

The only thing that I can agree with him in regards to Egypt is that, the military is in control and nothing has changed in terms of power.
He goes on to say openly and proudly that, "People from Egypt are not very well educated". The sheer arrogance of this fool is simply astonishing.
Ferguson completely lost me there and to be honest, I'd be happy if I never have to hear of this man again. lol
