Re: Democratic Republic or Korea attacks South Korea

The US and South Korea prepare for joint military games involving a US nuclear powered super carrier.

It appears North Koreans aren't going to take these provocations lightly anymore.

Re: Democratic Republic or Korea attacks South Korea

The thing is... I know the north are slightly psychopathic and all that...but they warned the south army four times to cease the military exercise in the disputed zone prior to opening fire. So in theory...the fact that the south says the military exercises were on "their" territory means absolutely nothing as the north sees that as home territory. Now everyone acts surprised. If this was Israel we'd all be singing a different tune.

Re: Democratic Republic or Korea attacks South Korea

Our pathetic media hasn't even mentioned the "military games" and disputed territories as reasons for the latest conflict. Instead, some reporters are simply saying that Kim Jong Junior, is simply flexing his muscles in the lead up to him becoming leader.

Sounds a bit like, "They hate us because thery're jealous of our freedoms."

Re: Democratic Republic or Korea attacks South Korea

I'm getting the feeling that North Korea is more trying to set up Kim Jong Il's son as a savior and hero of the people. Considering the (albeit highly speculated) health of Kim Jong Il and the North Korean assembly held a few weeks ago, it makes sense that they're going to bandy about his son and get the North Korean populace familiar with him. I get the feeling Kim Jong Un (Il's son), will get credit with defusing the situation and be held up as a national North Korean hero shortly. I can't help but wonder if he's actually going to have any power or if the North Korean military will be running the show with him as a figurehead.

Just how far North Korea is going to go with their sabre rattling though is anyone's guess. I get the feeling that North Korea isn't anywhere near as serious as they'd like the world to believe, and with China hanging over their heads recently, they can't really afford to piss off their only ally. I see the war games as being a sign that South Korea and the U.S. are calling North Korea's bluff.

good to see both sides are equally reasonable in this...we should just let them flatten the region and call it quits. We can have a big parking lot there afterwards.

Re: Democratic Republic or Korea attacks South Korea
North Korea says to strike South if drill goes ahead By Yoo Choonsik and Chris Buckley SEOUL/BEIJING | Fri Dec 17, 2010 9:15am GMT (Reuters) - North Korea said on Friday it would strike again at the South if a live-firing drill planned by Seoul on a disputed island went ahead, with an even stronger response than last month's shelling that killed four people.

The announcement on North Korean official news agency KCNA came as South Korea readied for live-firing drills on Yeonpyeong island near a disputed maritime border with the North for the first time since November's exchange of artillery fire.

The South Korean drills will take place between December 18-21.

"The strike will play out a more serious situation than on November 23 in terms of strength and scope of the strike," KCNA said.

The North had said its November shelling was a response to South Korean "provocations."

North Korea's warning came after Seoul promised a more robust response to any further attacks on its territory. The shelling of the island was the first time since the Korean war that the North had attacked South Korean territory.

The won fell slightly in offshore forward trading against the dollar, with the 1-month non-deliverable dollar/won forwards rising to as high as 1,159 soon after the news broke from around 1,155.

China, the North's main backer, has said that Pyongyang had promised restraint and the threat of a new attack by the North came as China told visiting U.S. Deputy Secretary of State James Steinberg that the two big powers should cooperate more in defusing tension on the Korean peninsula.

It also came as U.S. diplomatic troubleshooter Bill Richardson visited Pyongyang in an effort to "reduce the tension on the Korean peninsula."

China's top diplomat, Dai Bingguo, urged closer coordination over the Korean peninsula during talks with Steinberg, the second most senior official in the U.S. State Department, the state-run Xinhua news agency reported on Friday.

Steinberg was in Beijing for three days up to Friday to press China to do more to bring to heel its ally, North Korea, which last month sparked alarm by shelling the island and disclosing advances in uranium enrichment which could give it a new path to make nuclear weapons.

China has avoided publicly condemning its long-time ally over the deadly shelling and nuclear moves, and instead pleaded with other powers to embrace fresh talks with North Korea
this is what I am talking about...you warn ppl athey go ahead anyway. A threat not backed by force...is useless.

He's still alive, had a few drinks with him a couple of weeks ago, he's great. I imagine, and this is just a hunch, but I'm guessing he has better things to do with his time than to continue pointless ridiculous banter back and forth with you in a "political" section of a music message board, and I use the term "political" loosely because this section jumped the shark quite awhile ago.

All that said, I am still entertained by the absurdity of it all, so hey, at least you got me. :)

Re: Democratic Republic or Korea attacks South Korea

you can tell the USA is trying as hard as they can to goat NKorea into war. I mean look at the headlines.

North Korea "Stands Down"

You mid as well call them chicken shits. I would honestly think about getting out of there Tiddles if possible. The USA won't let this rest until war has broken out.

#1443947Post 34 of 45

Re: Democratic Republic or Korea attacks South Korea

Incorrect. The us has had almost 30k troops stationed there for years.

Also you know what I think is awesome:

You live in Canada which has the longest unsecured border in the world of any country (with the US), yet you are safe and happy, but everyone else in other countries you are telling them to GTFO because the US is going to nuke them soon. Pretty laughable imo. :roflmao:

Re: Democratic Republic or Korea attacks South Korea

what are you talking about? The US isn't going to bomb Seoul. They are trying to get North Korea to react to the aggressive steps that SKorea (USA) is taking. They want NKorea to bomb Seoul to start another war. Sacrificing some South Koreans to start another war is hardly a worry for a war machine like the US. It is just collateral damage.

The south Koreans are just pawns in the game.

Ya bomb our allies.Dumb.

We are rollin' in the dough since we started two wars almost a decade ago.

Dumb.

you still don't get it do ya dopey. The middle class and poor in the US are being wiped out. The rich are getting richer. Do you get it yet?

Again you aren't bombing your allies. You are goating The north to act out. Then the US gets to come in on its chariot to save the day.
