i walked into his office this morning and he was reading a news article on www.msnbc.com about the Gaza and he obviously was in a bad mood. i tried to be a bit of a wiseass and ask him what was wrong and get a laugh out of him. he said" the world hates the jews" i said " try being a young catholic who voted republican in NYC."

he went on to say how the jews in the middle east put too much emphasis on religion and seem to have adopted the poor me syndrome. he went on how the jews laid down in front of the germans when he was young, instead of fighting for themselves. he said the trend followed through to modern day isreali-palastinian conflict. i self-admittedly dont know much about the conflict outside of the fact that its seems the 2 peoples are like divorced parents forced to live together.

it made me sad. :(

so the real question, and maybe davetlv can help me out, is what the fuck is going on over there?

the bible talks about that area as being the "promised land" to the Jews, and there is mention of in the last days a "New Jeruselem" being raised up and becoming the number one political power - this obviously makes the jews think that they have a god ordained right to the land.

Christians are split on the issue - some think that the bible bits in question talk metaphorically about the church - but some (mainly evangelical american zionists) believe that it means it literally and that the area by rights belongs to the jews and that Jesus will one day return there and rule the world.

This is all off the top of my head, so it may not be 100% accurate, but that's the basic jist of it!

thesightless, when you ask what the fuck is going on, do you mean specifically now or how this mess was created in the first place?

Re: everyone hates the jews

i just wonder how the two can hate each other so much, how sharon feels he has the right to force people to move back out of gaza, why the hell neither nation wants to really recognize each other as a real nation. is this basically like two little kids fighting for the same toy>?

Re: everyone hates the jews

i can't believe people are willing to kill and die for a god. religion stems from a fear of death and nothing can be proven. it's just faith and people want to kill over it. crazy shit.

Re: everyone hates the jews

First off thesightless Sharon is only doing part of what international law demands off of my country, let alone what the vast majority of Israelis want. For the majority of the world you see Israels illegal occupation of the terrtories as purely an issue of land, however for many of us we also see it as an enormous drain on limited resources. For this young country to succeed we need to ensure that there is complete parity amongst its population, and yet we see successive governments (both left and right) giving settlers prefriential treatment in all walks of day to day life. So before you ask yourself 'How can Sharon (or Peres or Beilin or Lapid etc) do this' ask yourself what the people want!

Secondly, since the Oslo accords both Israel and the Palestinians were meant to recognise each others right to exisit within this region. Whilst Israel responded in 2000 with the Barak plan (which included 95% of the occupied territories) the Palestinian side responded with this ongoin war - i'm no longer prepared to call it an Intifada as that means general uprising, this it is not, its planned warfare by Fatah. Hamas and Islamic Jihad).

Both sides can probably stake a claim of the land dating back to biblical times with Abraham and his two sons Isaac and Ishmail. However, its propably easier to look soley at the 20th century starting with the demise of the Ottoman empire and the creation of nation states within the territories the Ottomans controlled.

The British manadate of 1917 was meant to seperate thearea, at the time reffered to as Palestine, in to two countries, Transjordan and Israel. Whilst Transjordan (now Jordan) was given to the Hasimite clan to rule, Israel was kept very much under British rule. For 41 years the British refused to implement their own plan for the region, namely two countries one for the Jews and one for the Arabs (the idea of a seperate Palestinian identity only really to hold after the 1967 six day war when Israel was invaded and won the territiores previously occupied by Jordan and Egypt).

After the state of Israel was created, and recognised by the UN, in 1948 it was a much smaller country then it was meant to be under the British mandate plan. What we now call the West Bank was occuppied by Jordan and the Gaza strip was occupied by Egypt. Soon after the UN set up a seperate refugee agency to help find permentnat housing for the million or so displaced arabs who found themselves in the West Bank and Gaza strip and yet were not welcomed by their occupying forces (Jordan and Egypt).

to quote someone "" why cant we all just get along.?"
the Gaza strip was land that was initially given to the Palestinians when the UN recognized Israel in 1948. On the day that Israel became a state (and then again in 1956 and 1967), the Palestinians allowed the neighboring arabic countries to use those lands from which to attack Israel...hoping to get a piece of the pie if Israel were defeated. As I see it, the Israelis were tired of these lands being used to attack them so they took them to use as a buffer between the attacking countries and themselves after the 1967 War.

So far as I know, the israelis have no problem in getting along with their neighbors. The hamas leaders have no problem teaching the palestinian children everything from songs that preach the killing(burning) of Israeli children, sharpening their bones into sharp sticks, to Israelis raping their own daughters and sisters.

There are summer camps in Palestine where Hamas members teach 3-5 year old children how to wire explosives to themselves to detonate themselves.

Anyone remember the riots in Crown Heights, NY 1991? Not a good time, and was quickly forgotten after the L.A. riot in 1993. Here is an article:

Yes, but Hamas leaders represen a small number of Palestinians (there certainly are a couple of Israeli extremists, not at all less violent or less ill-intended, although the number of extremists is far larger in Palestine), but they are sadly the loudest. Normal civilians' voices just aren't heard IMHO.

Any credible sources/links on that one?

Hey, mom is sending me to a suicede bombers camp this summer. I can't wait. I'm sure it'll be bobmastic. But what do you want, there are no playgrounds for children to play, anyway...

Re: everyone hates the jews

Part 2

First off we need to realise that the land that was originally offered under the Balfour Decleration and the British Manadate to the Jews was very different in size to the 1947 UN Partition plan. Between 1917 and 1947 the world seemed to forget that when the original plan talked of two states that those two states were actually Israel and Transjordan. After much appeasement of the Arabs by the British during the mandate years a third and altogether new state emerged - that of Palestine.

After two wars where Israel held her own she was attacked in June 1967 by her neighbours. Ruby more or less gets it right about the Gaza and West Bank with the exception that it was NOT Palestinian land, it was land which was occuppied by Jordan and Egypt. There was no Palestinian political structures at all.

Although some arabs fled what became Israel in 1948 the majority left under the promise by their brethren that once the great arab armies had defeated the zionist imperialist scum (paraphrashing here obviously) they could return home. They were forced into the areas of Gaza and the West Bank and later had a refugee agency set up for them by the UN. It should be noted that it was the norm at the time for host countries to intergrate refugees at the time, as it is today, and not keept them as seperate entities.

After the six day war when Israel defeated the armies of Lebanon, Syria, Jordan and Egypt, it also occuppied three land masses. The Golan Height (from Syria which it later went on to annex) The Gaza Strip (from Egypt) and the West Bank (from Jordan). With it it also gain a 29 year old refugee problem.

Since then the land has been occupied by Israel.

Thats as near to unbiased as i can be, the following however is entirely biased.

There has never been a State of Palestine. There has never been a seperate Palestinian people. The term was created after the British fucked up their own mandate and wanted to appease the arab states. The Palestinian refugees you hear of today are as much as a responsibilty of Jordan then they are Israel, after all the orginial partition plan gave the arabs a sepereate state - Jordan.

The Palestinian people who have been kept under 'occupation' since 1948 have been used as a political tool by neighbouring arab states.

In 1948 there were 600,000 'arabs' who left their homes and moved into the West Bank and Gaza strip. After the State of Israel was declared there have been 600,000 Jews kicked out of arab states and re-housed in the State of Israel. If Jordan and Egypt has behaved correctly towards their refugees in 1948 we would not have the problems we have today.

But thats history.

So whats the future. Like or not, the only realistic future is a two state solution. One for the Jews and one for the 'Palestinians'.

Until the Oslo accords of 1993 (i think it was 1993) it didn't look like anything would change in the region. After Barak/Peres and Araft signed an accord to create an independent Palestinian state thinks looked as if they were going to get better. Israelis knew that realistically they could not hold onto the territories but would have to hand them over to Arafat and the new Palaestinian Authority. Since then every Prime Minister of my country has realised that.

When Barak made an offer to Arafat to hand over 95% of the west bank, all of the Gaza Strip and some 5% of Israel (in compensation to 5% of the west bank) Arafat rejected the offer and the current war of terror began.

Thats more or less it. . .

brakada, Cosmo comments about teaching young palestinian children songs about the murder of Israelis is not a piece of fiction as you very well know. Where Cosmo was slightly off, was that its not Hamas who are doing this is, it is in fact the Palestinian Authority through its schools and summer camps - there is enough evidence out there for you to find such footage.

As for you asking for credible sources to them, what do you call credible?I call video showing the songs being sang (with translations in english via professional translators) as credible enough.

As for Israeli extremists, they on the whole do not go round shooting innocent men women and children or blowing themselves up on buses. The biggest threat these Israeli extremists pose is to Israel itself. When ever Israel has found an israeli planning a terror attack or building bombs (the incidents you can count on two hands BTW) they have been arrested and imprisioned. Not like their Palestinian counterparts.

Ok too long, bit muddled in places, but there you go!

what i meant by "the cursed people to walk the earth" is that almost evrey war that has happened or going to happen is because of the jews.. dating back to moses they were cursed and nothing has changed today..
what i meant by "the cursed people to walk the earth" is that almost evrey war that has happened or going to happen is because of the jews.. dating back to moses they were cursed and nothing has changed today..
buddy, that may be the single-most unintelligent racist remark I've heard on this board ever. Are you telling me World War I was because of the Jews? How bout the American revolution or the French one? the Napoleanic war? Crimean war? every civil war that has taken place?

please reserve comments like that for message boards like the National Front or perhaps the KKK...

#325187Post 25 of 54

I was hoping he merely meant the fact that a lot of people are still blaming them for the killing of Chist, but this is a bit across the line...

Nice thing i heard recently: Jesus Christ never meant to be the founder of Christianity, he just wanted to be a good Jew...

#325212Post 26 of 54

i was referring to the killing of christ.. Dave and i already discussed this in 100,000 civilians killed.. just a joke..

#325275Post 27 of 54

Re: everyone hates the jews

If people keep reminding me how my people killed Christ, I just keep reminding them how their people let the Holocaust pass by without doing anything until it was too late.

I'm sure you will agree with most of it, I did, mainly for the fact that they are the watchdogs for the mainstream media who always seem to get it WRONG.

Sure, they may have different ideological opinions, but the basis for the website is to look for the truth.
