All in all, I think this was more than a publicity stunt and see it as a forward thinking way of working a random and unfortunate incident out.

According to the press pool report, Obama drank Bud Light, Biden quaffed Buckler, Gates had a Sam Adams Light, and Crowley opted for a Blue Moon. The men were munching on peanuts and pretzels served in small silver bowls. Biden wasn't scheduled to attend, but Obama invited him this afternoon.

Re: The White House 'beer summit'

Look how the chairs are positioned.....Photo op at it's finest...If It was me, I would have told Obama to kiss my ass, and no thanks to the invite.

Bud light...yuck.

Re: The White House 'beer summit'

Of course it's a photo op...and a good way for everyone in the situation to take their feet out of their mouths.

But I also suspect that all three of those guys concede that they could have handled things better in retrospect. And any common recognition of that is good.

 what seriously? Not have a beer with the leader of the free world and meet the VP and smooth things over with one of the most critically acclaimed professors at one of the most critically acclaimed College in the world, all while sitting on the lawn at White House?

Wow!

^He would have been called "elitist" if he'd of chosen Bud Select

And could you imagine the headlines if Obama had a Stella!

I think they should have all shared a pitcher of Arrogant Bastard personally.

Re: The White House 'beer summit'

i think this was crap... i am honestly getting sick and tired of seeing Obama on the TV every night in some publicity crap.

He stuck his nose in some local thing that he shouldnt of even done in the first place... and all of a sudden race issues comes to be at the forefront of every media station.... that is until Brangelina have another kid.

*barf in my mouth.

Re: The White House 'beer summit'

The question here should have been why the president of the most powerful nation on earth still has no taste in beer. Belgian beer rules, American beer does not.

Re: The White House 'beer summit'

^^ If he drank Belgian beer, that would hardly endear him to the American public. He's got enough trouble as it is.

you clearly don't know anything about beer. microbreweries have put america at the top. belgium does belgian style like no other, obviously, but that's all they do better than the states.

There is a reason why American microbrewery beers are not among the top sellers here, not even in special selection bars/liquor stores Jenks :D. Though I'll admit that as far as I know American microbreweries are indeed rated a good deal higher than the bigger ones, and I'd definitely like to try some of those small brands.

Don't tell me I don't know anything about beer, just because I'm from a part of the world with a different taste in that stuff ;)

Can you name some of the best ones? Doubt i'll find them here but would be interested to know. I doubt any micro-breweries are in the business of exporting on a big scale but i don't know. Here in England, the stuff made on a small scale is nearly always the best but the people making it don't have the muscle to export/compete with the big hitters of course. Mostly, to them it's a hobby.

Most pubs are run by the breweries so they make a habit of not selling stuff they don't make themselves.

Re: The White House 'beer summit'

Ya, you really have to know your places to find that stuff, but it can be worth the extra effort if you really like beer :D.

Re: The White House 'beer summit'

some of my fav. micro breweries:

Dogfish head (60 and 90 min IPA = the win) Bells (everything they do is awesome) Ommegang (who, oddly enough brews belgian style ales in NY) Pyramid (i like all their stuff too) ...

there's a beer thread around here somewhere, i'll stop jacking this one.
