Will You take the Swine Flu Vaccine??

Alright so who is for and who is against this vaccine? I am obviously strongly against the vaccine considering that swine flu or bird flu can't jump to humans EVER!! It could only be done in a lab. I will not be taking the swine flu vaccine also because it sounds like it will be the first of three vaccines that you will have to take.

Also the scientists say that it has infected over 400,000 people and only 800 deaths I will take my chances considering this vaccine has not been tested for side effects.

I think we should really go over this since Canada and the US are now talking about Mandatory vaccines!!

Re: Will You take the Swine Flu Vaccine??

Fuck that. Hey, let's create a pandemic, then lets create a vaccine that will potentially harm people...

Then we should all line up for the cure, knowing that it will harm us?

No thanks.
swine flu or bird flu can't jump to humans EVER!! It could only be done in a lab.
That's an interesting statement. I'm no scientific expert, but all information that I have ever seen or heard from medically and scientifically trained professionals seems to clearly contradict your assertion. But I'm open to a different perspective. Please submit the scientific evidence that supports your claim.

Before I answer, I have to say, the underpinnings of the question don't make a hell of a lot of sense to me. Swine flu can't "jump" to humans, except in a lab, yet 400,000 people have been infected? Unless you maintain that those 400K people were all infected in a lab -- or even most of them -- those two statements seem inconsistent.

I'm also not sure I understand what it means to be "for" or "against" a vaccine. FFS, it isn't a sports team, its a drug.

I doubt I'll take it, though. Any such vaccine will likely be in short supply, and I'd rather see it go to the elderly and people for whom it is a life-threatening virus.

Re: Will You take the Swine Flu Vaccine??

^^ I will of course let runningman speak for himself, but my general interpretation of his statement is that the virus was created in a lab - perhaps some top-secret CIA stuff or something - and that it then got loose into the general population and spread human to human, kinda like in the movie Outbreak.

Re: Will You take the Swine Flu Vaccine??

Apparently there is a lot you aren't aware of Toasty. For starters this strain is attacking the young and healthy not the old. So for you to want to stand aside and let pappa take it is ridiculous to say the least.

Swine Flu and Bird Flu couldn't jump from bird - human or pig - human transfer. That is why it hasn't been a problem. Don't you find it weird that scientists are puzzled as to how it transferred to humans?? But when you mix human seasonal flu with strains from the bird flu, swine flu, and spanish flu now you have a great flu.

Now for scientific and investigative journalists

Spanish Flu digging up the body

http://www.nytimes.com/1998/02/08/us/alaskan-victim-of-1918-flu-yields-sample-of-killer-virus.html

You also might want to ask yourself have they tested this new vaccine??
The answer is no. The testing trials have just started this month which means that if there is a fall mandatory vaccine we will have no way of knowing what the short term and long term side effects are. Also you are probably asking yourself why would the gov't order hundreds of millions of doses of something untested?? It doesn't make sense considering the last bird flu vaccine Pharma came up with a lot of people died.

Poland deaths from vaccine research July 2008 http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/europe/poland/2235676/Homeless-people-die-after-bird-flu-vaccine-trial-in-Poland.html

Turns out they grabbed some poor people paid them a couple bucks to be guinea pigs and it killed 21 of the 350 tested. Funny, now Glaxo Smith Kline is limiting the testing trials because the world gov't are demanding the vaccine to much (Bottom of Cui Bono article)

Now for the clincher. You would think that the big pharmaceutical companies like Baxter and Glaxo Smith Kline would be held accountable if what they handed off as a vaccine actually killed people or made them sick right?? Wrong http://www.google.com/hostednews/ap/article/ALeqM5hjdCHrP82YTFser5vD6CzTK1az6wD99GH8580

Finally Cui Bono http://www.guardian.co.uk/business/2009/jul/22/glaxosmithkline-swine-flu-vaccine

So you tell me why you would want to take it??

This is incorrect. Avian and swine flu can infect humans directly. It just depends on the amount of exposure and risk. If you constantly work around pigs who are infected, you increase your risk of having a virus that has mutated and is able to jump ship to humans. Likewise, those who work around chickens who are infected with H1N5, are at a higher risk of acquiring avian flu since animal-to-human transmission has been seen through chickens.

Swine flu has been around before, but now it's a much stronger strain, which is expected given that viruses mutate.

Regardless, do as you wish with vaccines. It may help the evolution of humans in the long run if there's a select group of people that are able to have a natural resistance to it. All vaccinations are just attenuated viruses, or basically immobilized viruses. When you take vaccines, there's no garauntee your body will produce the antibodies needed, or the correct ones at that, to fend off a flu.

Whatever. Swine flu is well down the list of things that I'm worried about right now. If I get it, sad day for me, but I've not overly concerned about it.

I do think it's odd, though, that on the one hand, you're telling me that I SHOULD be concerned about it, and that I SHOULD NOT take the vaccine. Kinda getting mixed messages here.

Oh, and by the way, you'd be hard pressed to find someone on this board, and probably in the country as a whole, that has more distrust of the pharmaceutical industry than I do.

Toasty - The point of the thread was to see if you were going to get the swine flu shot or not. No mixed messages I was just advising that you not get it as I am concerned for your health!!

Untested No accountability if things go wrong Proof in the past that the vaccine could possibly kill you

Honestly I am just concerned for your safety not that I want to be argumentative.

Re: Will You take the Swine Flu Vaccine??
Miroslav -- No I don't think that
Ok then. The reason that I asked is because, as you are perhaps aware, scientific research over the course of decades has strongly suggested that the AIDS virus originated in apes before it became transmittable via human interaction. My point is that there is more than one scientific data point that points to viruses jumping species, even if it doesn't happen frequently.

Viruses are basically tiny infectious agents that are basically made up from genetic components.

Guess what genetic DNA does? IT MUTATES - sometimes in extreme and unexpected ways. You've heard of babies born with cleft palates and people getting cancer, right? Those are examples of results of genetic mutations.

And therefore, guess what viruses do? THEY MUTATE constantly - sometimes in extreme and unexpected ways. And so what was a benign infection could, in some very small probability of likelihood, jump the fence between certain species and become a killer. It's not that outlandish of a notion.

Re: Will You take the Swine Flu Vaccine??

Fuck the swine flu and the vaccine!

Number 7 is my favorite! :)

Ten things you're not supposed to know about the swine flu vaccine

(At least, not by anyone in authority...)

#1 - The vaccine production was "rushed" and the vaccine has never been tested on humans. Do you like to play guinea pig for Big Pharma? If so, line up for your swine flu vaccine this fall...

#2 - Swine flu vaccines contain dangerous adjuvants that cause an inflammatory response in the body. This is why they are suspected of causing autism and other neurological disorders.

#3 - The swine flu vaccine could actually increase your risk of death from swine flu by altering (or suppressing) your immune system response. There is zero evidence that even seasonal flu shots offer any meaningful protection for people who take the jabs. Vaccines are the snake oil of modern medicine.

#4 - Doctors still don't know why the 1976 swine flu vaccines paralyzed so many people. And that means they really have no clue whether the upcoming vaccine might cause the same devastating side effects. (And they're not testing it, either...)

#5 - Even if the swine flu vaccine kills you, the drug companies aren't responsible. The U.S. government has granted drug companies complete immunity against vaccine product liability. Thanks to that blanket immunity, drug companies have no incentive to make safe vaccines, because they only get paid based on quantity, not safety (zero liability).

#6 - No swine flu vaccine works as well as vitamin D to protect you from influenza. That's an inconvenient scientific fact that the U.S. government, the FDA and Big Pharma hope the people never realize.

#7 - Even if the swine flu vaccine actually works, mathematically speaking if everyone else around you gets the vaccine, you don't need one! (Because it can't spread through the population you hang with.) So even if you believe in the vaccine, all you need to do is encourage your friends to go get vaccinated...

#8 - Drug companies are making billions of dollars from the production of swine flu vaccines. That money comes out of your pocket -- even if you don't get the jab -- because it's all paid by the taxpayers.

#9 - When people start dying in larger numbers from the swine flu, rest assured that many of them will be the very people who got the swine flu vaccine. Doctors will explain this away with their typical Big Pharma logic: "The number saved is far greater than the number lost." Of course, the number "saved" is entirely fictional... imaginary... and exists only in their own warped heads.

#10 - The swine flu vaccine centers that will crop up all over the world in the coming months aren't completely useless: They will provide an easy way to identify large groups of really stupid people. (Too bad there isn't some sort of blue dye that we could tag 'em with for future reference...) http://www.naturalnews.com/026717_swine_flu_flu_vaccine_swine_flu_vaccine.html

Re: Will You take the Swine Flu Vaccine??
US puts flu vaccines on trial NIAID director Anthony Fauci explains testing strategy. Declan Butler

The US National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) announced last week that it will begin five clinical trials for two pandemic H1N1 influenza vaccines in early August. These trials will help inform a likely US mass-vaccination campaign beginning in September. NIAID director Anthony Fauci talks about what vaccines were chosen, and why.

To increase the amount of flu vaccine available, the World Health Organization recommends using adjuvants, which boost the body's immune response to the drug. But the five trials you announced last week are for non-adjuvanted vaccines. Why? We have planned seven priority trials. The five I announced on 22 July are for non-adjuvanted vaccines, but we also plan two more: testing GlaxoSmithKline's AS03 adjuvant with vaccine from Sanofi Pasteur and from CSL Biotherapies. We prioritized non-adjuvanted vaccines as the US government seems likely to recommend using these for vaccinating the first tier of priority groups — expected to include children and groups at higher risk of severe disease, such as those with certain underlying illnesses and pregnant women. We fully intend to proceed with trials of adjuvanted vaccines.

Will you test adjuvanted vaccines in children? The Europeans have lots of data on the use of adjuvanted flu vaccine in the elderly, but I don't think anybody has really good data on adjuvants in children. The Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) has therefore decided that we are not going to take the chance, and has made a policy decision that we are not going to give adjuvanted flu vaccines to kids. We don't have the time to collect substantial data.

Might not trials including at-risk groups help inform how vaccines are used? Yes. But, as in other countries, there are many ethical constraints. We are working with both principal investigators and institutional review boards to draw up protocols for such groups. Even if the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is considering the initial non-adjuvanted vaccines as simply a strain substitution of seasonal vaccine, it's still a new vaccine, so we want to get data from healthy adults before launching into risk groups.

What information will the NIAID get that vaccine makers won't from their own trials? We are asking questions that will inform policy decisions likely to affect how we use vaccines, whereas the focus of vaccine makers is generally directed towards studies needed to get a licence for their vaccine. The sort of information that the FDA, DHHS and the vaccine makers told us they needed most included what levels of antigen per dose are essential to getting an adequate immune response, and whether one or two shots of vaccine will be needed. So two trials will test both single and double shots of both 15-microgram [the amount in seasonal H1N1 vaccine] or 30-µg doses of antigen, using antigen from Sanofi Pasteur and from CSL Biotherapies. We will give the first doses in the first week or so of August, and the second dose 21 days later. We will learn very quickly after 21 days, when we draw blood, if one dose of 15 µg is enough. And if it isn't, if 30 µg is any better. And if 15 µg is enough, does 30 µg give an even better response? Shortly after 42 days, we will have data on the second doses.

Why are you testing vaccine only from Sanofi Pasteur and CSL Biotherapies, when Novartis accounts for the bulk of vaccine ordered by the United States? Novartis has quite a sophisticated clinical-trials apparatus. The United States will purchase 45% from Novartis, 26% from Sanofi Pasteur and a little bit less than 19% from CSL Biotherapies. Novartis is able to carry the ball itself, so we made a reasonably well-based decision to fill in the gaps and get information on CSL and Sanofi Pasteur.

You also plan to test co-administration of pandemic 2009 vaccines and seasonal H1N1 vaccines. How will the immune system react to these together? We don't know. Testing two vaccines against different H1N1s at the same time has never been done. We'll look at three test regimes: giving the pandemic 2009 vaccine before, at the same time as, or after seasonal H1N1 vaccine. If you give the pandemic H1N1 vaccine first, will subsequently giving the seasonal H1N1 enhance the response to the original dose, or will there be antigenic competition or interference? If you give both at same time, is the body going to have a response that is enhanced against seasonal flu and not do a very good job against the pandemic vaccine, or will it actually amplify the response? And if you give pandemic vaccine after [seasonal vaccine], is that going to have an enhancing or suppressing effect? Immunologically, you can't predict the outcome.

What if we have a vaccine and then the genetics of the virus changes? You never can predict that, but things look encouraging to me from a molecular-virological standpoint. If you look at the molecular and genetic make-up of the virus from the very first isolates in early April compared to what we are seeing now in late July, it's virtually an identical virus everywhere. So it doesn't look like it is under pressure to mutate to a significant degree. We hope it stays that way for the autumn and winter season.
Re: Will You take the Swine Flu Vaccine??
Hey Miro would it make you wonder why Baxter filled for the swine flu patent a full year before anybody was even talking about it. They must have known what strain to patent since it mutates so much.

http://www.theoneclickgroup.co.uk/news.php?start=2760&end=2780&view=yes&id=3581#newspost
Not really. There has been a lot of scientific work done on influenza subtypes, even if mutation constantly occurs and every single strain cannot every be catalogued at any one point in time. The end result is basically that scientists have long known about subtypes of influenza viruses in pigs (and other animals), and they have also known about the H1N1 subtype - AND they have also been studying cases of animal to human influenza transmission (although this is rare).

So the Baxter folks knew the risk of future influenza pandemics (they've been saying it for years now) and they had some notion of some of the subtypes where the risk might come from. And they thought they had some technology that might be effective against those potential risks. So why not apply for a patent? They're not stupid. And they're trying to set themselves up to make a profit.

Not that everything in Wikipedia is perfect, but here are some sources where you can learn more about the subtypes and see how extensive and far back some of the knowledge is. There really is no need for looney conspiracy theories when we have readily accessible scientific data that helps illuminate certain things pretty clearly.

#1250398Post 21 of 138

Re: Will You take the Swine Flu Vaccine??

Also, regarding the mutation of influenza viruses and transmission obetween species, see here for some examples of data:

From the Centers for Disease Control (they have lots of very smart scientists from all sorts of backgrounds and nationalities working for them: http://www.cdc.gov/flu/avian/gen-info/transmission.htm
Influenza A viruses normally seen in one species sometimes can cross over and cause illness in another species. For example, until 1998, only H1N1 viruses circulated widely in the U.S. pig population. However, in 1998, H3N2 viruses from humans were introduced into the pig population and caused widespread disease among pigs. Most recently, H3N8 viruses from horses have crossed over and caused outbreaks in dogs.
There are tons of other articles about it, too. http://wcco.com/goodquestion/human.animal.flu.2.996893.html
"What's interesting and important to note about influenza viruses, is that they're shared viruses between humans and mammals, animals, like pigs, and birds," said Marie Gramer, Ph.D., a researcher at the University of Minnesota's Veterinary Diagnostic Center.

Influenza is a zoonotic, in that it spreads from animals to humans. According to the World Health Organization, about 60 percent of pathogens travel from animals to humans, things like salmonella and rabies.

The flu works both ways, constantly changing.

"The virus is going to change or it'll be attacked by the immune system. So for the virus to survive it has to change or it's always going to get attacked," said Gramer.

When two different strains of the flu virus come together they can change, forming a new strain of the virus. The current strain of swine flu has not been seen before in humans or in pigs.

"The virus changes in the pig lung and the pig nose, for example. And also in the human lung," said Gramer. "There are cells that bind up the viruses. If two viruses get into the same cell they can exchange the genetic material."
Re: Will You take the Swine Flu Vaccine??

no he said everyone is waiting to make a lot of money off of this. Remember you don't have to look to deep into things Miro. Money typically is the answer.

I never said it was made by the CIA remember that was you. I said the vaccine companies should be looked into since 99% of the time when there is a pandemic they are to blame because of a lab leak and so on.

Hoof and Mouth - Lab (that actually happened twice)

I can't beleive I am having this conversation with intelligent people though. I thought once I said that it is an untested vaccine everybody would be in agreement not to take.

Re: Will You take the Swine Flu Vaccine??

Expect hundreds of thousands of cases of Guillain-Barré Syndrome from these vaccines.

Squalene is the problem. The vaccines they are testing does not have the squalene in it. But the real vaccine will have it. Squalene was used in the Anthrax vaccine which is the cause for "Gulf War Syndrome."
