Where is the Governor of South Carolina?? He has been missing for several days now and apparently his wife and family don't even know where he is. He didn't show up for fathers day as well.

Perhaps this is bad example to post this on because I certainly find this to be odd myself, but does there exist anything at all where your reaction is not one of the following?

But I do see what you are saying.

I will make you a deal. When the world starts getting better (and economy) I will be more optimistic. Til then I will report corrution and how bad the world is.

Also I never implied Apocolypse. I don't go that hard. I just report bank robberies, corruption, murder, and power. And with the world now a days there is a lot of that going around.

haha...oh shit. I gotta say, it sounds like runningman's prognosis may hit home on this one. I can just see Sanford's staffers right now shitting a brick as they figure out how to damage control this one. This whole thing really sounds fishy as hell - even if it's not corruption, [I]something[/I] is clearly not right with this man. I'm already seriously questioning whether he will serve out his term. I don't think he is fit to remain as governor. At best, he grossly neglected the office he swore to uphold; at worst, he behaved in a criminal manner. I guess we will find out soon enough where he ends up on that spectrum...

If anything, it makes it seem less likely that anything sinister was going on and more likely that Sanford would just up and leave the country for kicks for a few days without telling anyone. ^^ haha... except that he secretly left the country for five days to have his affair with no communication and no appropriate formal arrangements for anyone to handle key responsibilities, thereby recklessly and very significantly abandoning his duties to the office to which he was elected and sworn. If they will get him for something, I think that will be the angle... I agree that the affair in and of itself won't be the issue.

In light of the fact that this affair was evidently discovered 5 months ago, what are we to make of his wife's comment that she didn't know where he was? Did she know, and she was covering for him, or did she really not know (although I guess even if she didn't know for sure, she'd have a pretty good idea).

Don't know that it matters, just kinda curious. I had assumed her story was BS from the outset just because, c'mon now, who just vanishes for days at a time without bothering to tell their wife where they are going? Even if she didn't know specifically where he was -- hell, I travel a lot, and it wouldn't surprise me if my wife wasn't 100% sure where I was geographically on every trip -- but she at least knows how to reach me. Very, very odd.

Translation: "I know something is wrong with my marriage, and I don't need you here asking me about it. Leave me alone. I would rather just focus on my family and leave it to my philandering husband to explain his whereabouts and actions as he sees fit."

The funny thing about this guy is that he was very happy to cast stones and call for impeachment when it was a Democrat - Bill Clinton - in the hot seat for this type of behavior. At least Bill didn't blatantly abandon his post for his extramarital flings (as far as we know).

^^ ...and the craziest part would have been if he honestly thought he could get away with it. This had complete and obvious public disaster written all over it...and he could hardly have even picked a worse time, aside from Valentine's Day, Christmas, or Thanksgiving. Sounds like perhaps one heck of a mid-life crisis..one wonders if the guy didn't just hit a wall, professionally speaking, and if his will to lead a life in politics didn't just fizzle as he dealt with other personal issues.

I can't help to think about how bad men look compared to women in the public eye right now. Clinton, Edwards, Sanford and Spitzer all cheating on their wives. I can see women being angry in general at men.

Interesting point someone made, I wonder if deep down he wanted to get caught. The taking off to South America without someone noticing seems ridiculous. Or maybe we're just looking into this too much and he thought he could get away with this. I want to see this mistress as well.

I have to say, though, that Jenny has really handled this very well from a public standpoint. She didn't do that moronic perp walk where she stands with him while he gives his little guilty speech. She's struck a very open and sympathetic balance in stating her desire to work with her husband toward reconciliation, but also making it clear that she will not just put herself and her children last and meekly continue a relationship with him under these circumstances. She definitely comes out of this as a sensitive, intelligent, and graceful person who could do much better for herself (and arguably her family) than be with him.
