Wingnuts With Too Much Time On Their Hands

[QUOTE]Two Knox County legislators have joined House Republican Caucus Chairman Glen Casada in signing up as supporters of a lawsuit trying to force President Barack Obama to turn over a copy of his birth certificate.

State Reps. Stacey Campfield of Knoxville and Frank Niceley of Strawberry Plains say they agreed to be listed as plaintiffs in hopes of resolving contentions that Obama may actually have been born outside of the United States, which would mean he cannot serve as president under a provision of the U.S. Constitution. Re: Wingnuts With Too Much Time On Their Hands

I guess this is the GOP's way of being "bipartisan" in a time of extreme national crisis.

Re: Wingnuts With Too Much Time On Their Hands

If that were true what would happen? That has never happened before has it?

Re: Wingnuts With Too Much Time On Their Hands

He would no longer be president. No, it has never happened. This is just some fringe Republicans grasping at straws because they think this is a big game and they can't handle their party "losing" right now.

grasping at straws sure...but the logic part tells me if he really has nothing to hide, then why not release it? Unless it's lost somewhere as is?

Re: Wingnuts With Too Much Time On Their Hands

I heard the same question come up during the primaries on right-wingnut talk radio in regard to McCain. Apparently he was born in the Panama Canal Zone because his parents were stationed there in the military. A very few were questioning whether he was actually eligible to be president since technically, he was not born in any of the then 48 states. Maybe this is just transference of the same principle - getting back at the left for what the uber-right thinks the left would have done to McCain if he had won the election. If that is the case, then this seems to be consistent with the paranoiacs that listen to this crap. The only reason I was subjected to it was because I happened to overhear it at work where a co-worker had it on.

Re: Wingnuts With Too Much Time On Their Hands

what I don't understand is why is Obama protecting his birth certificate so much? If someone asked for mine I would go on tv and show everybody. Case closed. But Obama is fighting it with a team of lawyers which makes it very suspicious. I don't think it is grasping at straws at all. Toasty if I was president of your country and instead of doing the obvious thing of showing everyone I get a team of lawyers to keep it locked up real tight wouldn't that make you wonder if I really was an American?? Don't you care that you might have a Kenyan as your president??

Why doesn't he just show it to everyone??

One thing is for sure. We do have a former Kenyan as our President. Obama automatically had dual-citizenship until he was 21 years old because his father was a Kenyan citizen. He could have petitioned to keep it too, but opted to let it expire.

We also know his mother was a US citizen. As far as I know, his mother never visited Kenya. His father was a student at the University of Hawaii where he met Barack's mother. Unless Barack's father gave birth, I am not sure how he could have been born in Kenya.

I personally find this debate to be stale. What I do find interesting though are the potential reasons why the select few are so invested in wondering this. That would make a more interesting story IMO.

Re: Wingnuts With Too Much Time On Their Hands

that doesn't change the fact that Obama should show his Birth Certificate.

Do you think Obama should show his birth certificate??

I'd love to see something backing up the claim that Obama is "fighting it with a team of lawyers." As far as I'm aware, it is the State of Hawaii that is resisting, based upon some policy it has.

Why wouldn't Obama just relent? Well, for one thing, he's already provided it. Not really his fault that a bunch of whackjobs have unsurprisingly figured out a way to bitch about it further to keep this "controversy" alive. Why lend credibility to this bonkers "dispute" by treating it as if there's even really anything legitimate at issue?

If Obama held dual citizenship they are saying he wouldn't be eligible to be president.
