to quote carl jeffers.

competent confident educated tempered somber tough and gentle

all around a good one. much a departure from his cure all campaign speeches. no big hoo-ra about things he had promised to do early and realized arent feasible. a nice transistion from talking about bush and holding foreign leaders responsible to thier people. the downside of where we are and how it will take everyone getting together...

Re: the speech

the question is: when you turned it on, did it return the favor?

Re: the speech

I have to admit I'm getting really sick of hearing people say they never thought they would see this in their life time.

Re: the speech

Great speech, as expected. I was almost even more impressed with some of those photos coming out of Washington DC. The crowds were just astonishing.

After the combative, divisive vibe that has permeated political discourse in this country over the past 8 years, it was nice to see people so excited about a leader again.

Re: the speech

Yes ^ completely astonishing. It's amazing to see the hope the nation has. It was a huge deal in Toronto too with live broadcasts in Dundas Square and various other places. Lot's of emotional faces in the crowds.

Re: the speech

this part was awesome:
To the Muslim world, we seek a new way forward, based on mutual interest and mutual respect. To those leaders around the globe who seek to sow conflict, or blame their society's ills on the West -- know that your people will judge you on what you can build, not what you destroy. To those who cling to power through corruption and deceit and the silencing of dissent, know that you are on the wrong side of history; but that we will extend a hand if you are willing to unclench your fist.
Re: the speech

^^^ i agree.. i thought it was a very well written speech

I heard it being analysed though and was wondering what some people expected.. as if he was supposed to solve all the problems or talk about policies immediately, lol

Re: the speech

one thing i wished he did was generally address the potential policy changes that will be coming, if only for the health of the markets.

It usually isn't at the inaugural address where the policy specifics (or even generalities) are laid out, but at the state of the union address a couple weeks later. I'm sure he'll be making an "economic address" within the coming days to start helping things, too. Just yesterday he had an emergency meeting with his economic team so it'll probably be coming up soon.

I'm sure more waiting isn't making your job any easier though.
