NEW YORK(AP) A 25-year-old man from Georgia who was apparently distraught over President Bush's re-election shot and killed himself at ground zero. Andrew Veal's body was found Saturday morning inside the off-limits site, said Steve Coleman, a spokesman for the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey. A shotgun was found nearby, but no suicide note was found, Coleman said.

Veal's mother said her son was upset about the result of the presidential election and had driven to New York, Gus Danese, president of the Port Authority Police Benevolent Association, told The New York Times in Sunday's editions.

Friends said Veal worked in a computer lab at the University of Georgia and was planning to marry.

"I'm absolutely sure it's a protest," Mary Anne Mauney, Veal's supervisor at the lab, told The Daily News. "I don't know what made him commit suicide, but where he did it was symbolic."

Police were investigating how Veal entered the former World Trade Center site, which is protected by high fences and owned by the Port Authority.[/quote]

feel sorry for his family...but i think over time theyll understand his message...hopefully

suicide is not immoral...so i really cant see this being anything but virtuous considering his most probably reasoning

feel sorry for him, but proud of him too

Uh, yeah, that's exactly what I was thinking. NOT!

Dude, you really should think before you type.

:ROFLMAO:

You can't martyr yourself.

Brave. Virtuous. Proud.

I'd use anything to describe this, except those words. Maybe a little more in terms of: dissapointed, disillusioned, desperate, afraid...

and stupid.

the most coward way to go on this planet. at least die fighting for what you believe in ... not a cheap exit door that anyone can do.

you are all wrong...dont let him die in vain...his message should be known...what he was digusted with was for good reason

i did think before i typed..thank you very much

"you cant be a martyr for yourself" ???

martyr - One who makes great sacrifices or suffers much in order to further a belief, cause, or principle

a la dictionary.com

the definition does not distinguish between martyrs from suicide and martyrs from other forms of death

your question is redundent

NEXT TIME THINK BEFORE YOU TYPE

What message? He didn't even leave a note. To compare this guy to the monk that burned himself, and had it filmed, protesting Vietnam is ridiculous.

If you want to send a message, you better write it before you go.

Being brave in a democracy is sticking around to affect change. I'm not going to ridicule this guy, but for you to praise him when you have no idea who he is, why he did it, or what mental state he was in, is ridiculous.

Don't throw the word martyr around so easily. People need to earn that title. What did this guy further other than his own demise? Nothing.

people who commit suicide are a joke. period. good riddance. fucking quitters.

That's what I mean, Sacredawe. Don't praise or condemn anyone until you know what's up.

#296092Post 16 of 18

Quitters never prosper.

#296112Post 17 of 18

Martyr may ass. this guy was a straight up tosser.

if you place people like that as a martyr, you got serious issues.

Why is this even news worthy? Who is the slimey cocksucker who decided this needed to be a big story? Second bullit should be for that person.
