It's offical.US in Recession
Re: It's offical.US in Recession
^ well at least it won't be for a long time? (though the upturn might very well be weak over a long period)
Re: It's offical.US in Recession
What I don't understand is how can "they" predict how long a recession will last??
Re: It's offical.US in Recession
hahaha ya is it official?? I thought it was official after Lehman went under. They have no clue when it is going to end.
Re: It's offical.US in Recession
So this wasn't all in my head? Somebody get Phil Gramm on the horn, stat!
Re: It's offical.US in Recession
hahaha ya is it official?? I thought it was official after Lehman went under. They have no clue when it is going to end.
It's official in economic terms when you have two quaters in a row negative growth dude.
As for this shit taking long: the Germans predict a relaunch in the 2nd half of 2009. Dunno, we'll just have to sit it out.
Re: It's offical.US in Recession
All my friends who work as analysts in the City say that we can expect the economy to be down for at least 18 months but realistic figures are 2-3 years. So hold on to your shit...

2-3 years sounds about right to me
Re: It's offical.US in Recession
you know when making a business plan you really don't have a fucking clue what is going to happen 3 years down the road. Which leads me to believe that nobody has a fucking clue what is going to happen next.
mariner why are you always up in my ass on every word I write??
Re: It's offical.US in Recession
just another reason to get fucked up....guess its the swaggy and some natural light.
damn recessionism bastards...
i need to be a CEO that makes 21 mil a year while my company is going under so i can retreat to my mansions when the shit hits the fan.
we need to revert back to the Guillotine.
chop some heads off and people start to think about what kind of consequences come your way from being a greedy old fuck head.:shock:
Re: It's offical.US in Recession
finally a real American is talking in the political section.^^^
mariner why are you always up in my ass on every word I write??
lol, mariner was the first to reply to this thread... before you replied so i dont understand why you are trying to pick a fight here...
go kill a puppy or something, maybe that will make you feel a little better.
Re: It's offical.US in Recession
me and mariner have been in constant dialogue in three different threads now for the past week. Usually it is me and Miro going at it but now it is Mariner.

Well it usually starts with the premise that you're wrong. And I'll concede that you are wrong just about all of the time.
Re: It's offical.US in Recession
^^
^ well at least it won't be for a long time? (though the upturn might very well be weak over a long period)
bingo. I swear it isn't planned, but I happen to share this concern in a big way.

Of course, your suggestion will only make things much, much worse. But it's understandable. And not out of the question to some extent.
Re: It's offical.US in Recession
Again I read the politics section and laugh my ass off...great, great...keep up the good work :)
Re: It's offical.US in Recession
what have I been wrong about again?? Who predicted gas to go down to $70/ barrel when it was $140?
No NO NO the way I see it is that you are Miro's puppy and and Miro is an idiot.
Re: It's offical.US in Recession
blah, quit bitching and whining all of you =p
Re: It's offical.US in Recession
look, your sole argument to bailout the automakers (which as far as the wires are reading today, isn't going to happen), is to say that "it isn't fair not to bail them out" and "think of the union workers".
look, I understand that you feel entitlements are justified on fairness factors. I understand that you feel it irresponsible to bail out one business and not another, regardless of a highly distinguishable economic value to the actual operations of the united states. I understand that you feel that putting tariffs on goods is a noble social goal, despite the tried-and-true consequences of doing so. I would also understand that you feel that businesses should operate even if they must do so at a loss, whether forced to do so by government sanction or otherwise.
but tunnel-vision, consequences-be-damned perspective has been proven harmful, time and time again. And while I'm not e-mailing Miroslav back and forth to gang up on you, as you seem to imply, does it not incline your mind that two separate individuals would come to the same conclusion based on, I dunno, the same economic principles? Is it really a stretch to say, "you know what, spending billions for a few select businesses will only ensure that we must continue spending more billions on them in the future, and...when does this vicious cycle end?" and perhaps respect the law that no business exists perpetually, and that to do so requires hard work, good products people are willing to buy at a market-based cost, and strong, competent management?
Why is it so difficult for you to say, "If U.S. automakers cannot find a market fix for their problems, they must fail, They should go through bankruptcy proceedings so that creditors and owners can redeploy their assets as efficiently as possible." Why is it so hard for you to see that bailing out the automakers is unfair to those who are not complicit in causing their failure? Why can't these automakers have the freedom to fail?
here's a cookie for 'predicting' that gas would go down to $70/bl. This doesn't make you right about the automakers.
I'll leave this as my last comment on the subject.
Re: It's offical.US in Recession
so these so called experts can tell us what's comin over the next 3 yrs but they hadn't the foresight to see the collapse of the entire banking system over the period of only a few weeks ? how strange.

this collapse has been anticipated for many years now. those who predicted it (almost to the very week) were ignored because nobody wants a 'doomsayer' when things are doing well.
Re: It's offical.US in Recession
i know what runningman is trying to do... he is trying to get the USA to waste even more money on crap so that the USA, as a whole, continues on its downward spiral to hell.
once that happens, Canada wont seem that bad. (might i add it doesnt seem that bad right now actually)

No NO NO the way I see it is that you are Miro's puppy and and Miro is an idiot.
Look, why don't you grow up and get some manners?
I may disagree with you and think that you are wrong on a lot of things, but I've made it a point to stay away from personal attacks and name calling. You don't have to like me or agree with me, but it would be nice if you could extend the same basic courtesy to me.
Your decision to resort to this sort of behavior says much more about you than it does about me.
Re: It's offical.US in Recession
it was a joke.
Re: It's offical.US in Recession
well, the company i've been writing for is going out of business real soon.
Re: It's offical.US in Recession
it was a joke.
Whatever. We all know that you're lying. But I'm not going to argue with you about it; your reputation around here already speaks for itself.

I was screwing around when I wrote that. We could just hang them in the street if you don't like chopped head.
Re: It's offical.US in Recession
your right your reputation is so much better
Re: It's offical.US in Recession
^^ I guess we could ask for a forum vote?
Re: It's offical.US in Recession
go for it. I would be happy to see the results. What are we competing for again??:lol::Gay::Gay::Gay:

I think maybe chopped head vs. Hanging. Which one would be the lesser of the two. I mean if you had to choose?
Re: It's offical.US in Recession
tied to a post and shoot.
Oh what do we do now Miro?? http://www.cnbc.com/id/28069486
Keep giving the banks more money so they won't give it to anybody on the street. I don't know anybody right now that has been granted a loan for small business in Michigan. Where is all this money???

Keep giving the banks more money so they won't give it to anybody on the street. I don't know anybody right now that has been granted a loan for small business in Michigan.
We don't need to give banks more money. Many smaller and more poorly capitalized banks will fail, and we should let them. We have already given the important players the sufficient support to avert the collapse of the entire financial infrastructure.
And what we do now is primarily this:
- We try to provide whatever tax break and fiscal policy benefits we can to put more resources into peoples' hands.
- We try to develop government-sponsored job corps as quickly as possible, like we did during the Great Depression. Government spending is a crucial lever during recession.
- We strengthen other national systems to feed people and give them basic resources. That means bread lines and all that shit we did during the Great Depression.
- We hunker down, tough it out, and wait. When losses are realized, asset values will again become transparent, trust between remaining market participants will grow, and economic stability will slowly return. That probably won't be until 1-2 years from now.
You didn't expect the bailout to cause everything to go back to normal and banks to lend like they used to, did you? Sorry dude...that was never in the cards. We're in the heaviest recession since the Great Depression and most of the carnage lies ahead of us, not behind us. I never said this wasn't going to hurt a lot.

what a crock of shit
Agreed, it is a crock of shit. I don't think we've reached the bottom in terms of deleveraging of the consumer and the unwinding of overvalued assets. Worst is still ahead. We will lose millions of jobs in 2009.

It's called 'consolidation'. Big companies eat little companies and since some of the bankers sit on the fed/treasury, they'll do as they please with the infusion of money. They like to cut the grass and eventually more small banks will grow again and once again down the road, bankers will seize the opportunity to consolidate more companies. Call it natural selection in the business world.
