Texas lineman's facebook status gets him booted off team

I know this is the 'Politics' section, but I think it might apply here more than in the 'Sports' section.

Texas sophomore offensive lineman Buck Burnette has been kicked off the team by head coach Mack Brown for an unspecified “violation of team rules.” Rumors are swirling about what Burnette did, but it appears it is related to comments he made about last night’s election results on his Facebook page. He has reportedly apologized and is aware of his mistake, hopefully he will grow and learn from it but that won’t happen as a member of the Texas football team.

Burnette played in seven games this year as Chris Hall’s backup at center. Burnette’s departure leaves true freshman David Snow as the primary backup at both guard and center.

The night of the election, he put up his Facebook status as:
"all the hunters gather up, we have a #$%&er in the whitehouse"
Then he later changed it to this:

and then finally posted an apology:
Clearly I have made a mistake and apologized for it and will pay for it. I received it as a text message from an acquaintance and immaturely put it up on facebook in the light of the election. Im not racist and apologize for offending you. I grew up on a ranch in a small town where that was a real thing and I need to grow up. I sincerely am sorry for being ignorant in thinking that it would be ok to write that publicly and apologize to you in particular. I have to be more mature than to put the reputation of my team at stake and to spread that kind of hate which I dont even believe in. Once again, I sincerely apologize.
It was too late obviously, people saw it and the Longhorns staff was notified.

I thought it was the right decision to kick him off the team. But this kid was a bench warmer and anyone who has played sports knows how favoritism goes... if this was Colt McCoy it would've been brushed under the rug and he'd keep playing.

But when you consider that Obama personally visited with the Longhorns football team and they showed him a lot of love, this is doubly a slap in the face.

Ultimately I think Mack made the right decision, the guy would have been a walking target at every game.

 1. i admit to having massive typos, i cannot feel two of my fingers because of nerve damage. please live with it. i cannot do anything until stem cell research is approved and they find a way to rebuild my ulnar nerve.

 2. i hate both candidates who ran and would frankly enjoy the attempts. i gave up on any other fix to our govt about 5 years ago. so now, i hope for "outside help" yes, im saying i would probably laugh if it were a domestic that did it.

and again, in this day in age, i say this with the fact that i am not encouraging it, nor am i asking for it to happen in any way. but if it happened, i wouldnt exactly be sad.

Obama gets elected, and shosh is suddenly irked with racially insensitive comments. I knew that Obama's election would change some people's way of thinking about race, but I had no idea it would happen so quickly.

Regardless, I'm happy. :D

lol @ ^

some people need to wake up from a car accident with a turban wearing muslim doctor standing over them with hispanic nurses, and a transplant from a black person. this lineman fits said mold IMO.

Re: Texas lineman's facebook status gets him booted off team

Booted off the football team is a good start, now how about expelled and ridiculed nationwide, castrated and kicked once more in the groin for good measure. Sometimes I swear time stands still for the klan, and the south hasn't socially evolved since 1860. At least that's what it looks like when they are continuously represented by goons like Buck. This is the kind of person who would say he loves America and is a true patriot, even if that means directly and violently contradicting the will of the American people...just sickening.

Thx shosh, interesting to hear. I won't say anything about racist humor for now, except for the fact that all the 'Bucks' out there don't know the difference between a joke and a death threat.
