ANCHORAGE, Alaska (CNN) -- Alaska's Personnel Board concluded Monday that Gov. Sarah Palin did not violate ethics law by trying to get her ex-brother-in-law fired from the state police, contradicting an earlier investigation's findings. "There is no probable cause to believe that the governor, or any other state official, violated the Alaska Executive Ethics Act in connection with these matters," Timothy Petumenos, the Anchorage lawyer hired to conduct the investigation, wrote in his final report.

The announcement comes a day before Palin and Republican presidential nominee John McCain face voters in Tuesday's presidential election. Allegations that Palin fired Public Safety Commissioner Walt Monegan in July because he refused to fire her sister's ex-husband, Mike Wooten, have dogged her since before she became the GOP's vice presidential nominee in August. An earlier investigation launched by the state Legislature concluded Palin violated state ethics law by trying to get Wooten fired. The law bars public officials from pursuing personal interest through official action. That first inquiry -- led by legislative investigator Stephen Branchflower -- also concluded that Palin's firing of Monegan likely stemmed in part from his refusal to fire Wooten, but that Palin's firing of Monegan was within her authority as governor. Despite the conclusions of Branchflower's October 10 report, Palin declared that she had been "cleared of any legal wrongdoing" in the matter. Her attorney, Thomas Van Flein, argued the Branchflower report had wrongly interpreted state ethics law. Though the governor originally agreed to cooperate with the Legislature's inquiry, she tried to stop the investigation once she became McCain's running mate -- and campaign aides attacked the investigation as a partisan circus that was being manipulated by supporters of Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama. Instead, Palin asked the Personnel Board -- an executive branch agency whose members were appointed by her predecessor -- to handle the investigation, arguing it was the proper legal venue. Petumenos questioned Palin and her husband, Todd Palin, on October 24 about Monegan's removal from the commissioner's post, which oversees the Alaska State Troopers. Re: palin didnt violate ethics law

hmmm. ok point given. I guess we can stop criticizing her for this one, then. :D Although who knows what really happened; all this really suggests to me is that anyone can come in and interpret or arrange the facts to tell whichever story they are inclined to prefer. I guess we'll never really know. Kinda like back when Obama was supposedly a terrorist.

On a separate note, none of this changes the fact that she's still a ridiculous bitch. :)

Re: palin didnt violate ethics law

my reaction to this is basically the same as it was when the initial report came out, which is that this is way down on the list of reasons she's not ready to be VP. Story effectively became irrelevant when we learned she was totally out of her league.

I notice that this is not getting much air time on any of the Barack loving networks, unlike when it happened.

Re: palin didnt violate ethics law

^maybe because there's something bigger going on, like uh. i don't know, the election?

Re: palin didnt violate ethics law

I understand that but this is something that would also better inform the voters also.

All of the election day coverage right now is useless anyway because it only matters starting around 5ish.

Re: palin didnt violate ethics law

ah. so you're suggesting that people will switch thier votes if she was found innocent of an ethics violation.

ok.

For the people that are basing their vote upon anything that Sarah Palin says or does, I can't imagine that this is a determinative factor. I can't imagine that there is anyone voting for Obama purely because Palin was found guilty of an ethics violation. It's preposterous.

Re: palin didnt violate ethics law

News is news and the media should be announcing news, not just Obama news. That is all.

Well, you know about it because the media did announce it, and CNN is not exactly a right-leaning news source. You seem to be more upset that the media isn't talking about it more.
CNN is not exactly a right-leaning news source.
Neither is ABC, NBC or CBS and that is not what I want, I want an unbiased news cast from someone.

I didn't hear about it from the news I read about it, and I I just wish that the big 3 did their job and didn't broadcast such a one sided campaign to elect their Messiah.

Re: palin didnt violate ethics law

maybe because they know people don't give two shits about that gun loving psycho nutjob?

and that we, the people (as in i), can't wait for her to go back to alaska where she can watch the russians from her fucking house.

Fair enough.

I was just pointing out that if there is not a story that favors Obama that they are brushed under the rug.

Take no offense, but seriously, people who bitch about 'such and such' a story not getting promoted enough need to go have a word with themselves. Worse, that you expect some objectivity from ANY Media source makes me question whether you are right in the head. They're there to make money, and if some low-on-the-rung story like this isn't going to bring in the advertising, especially when you have the most important election I think this country has had since 1980.

Seriously? Seriously?! If you want an unbiased newscast, go do the reporting yourself. I'm not sure what there is to be biased about in this story, it's pretty effing cut-and-dry. And just because you didn't 'hear' about it on the news doesn't mean its' not there. I checked ABCCBSNBC and they all have stories on it. This came up like..within the last 24 hours and up until then, it was pretty clear to everyone that she did violate it.

For the sake of sanity, stop acting like Palin. Or, for that matter, the Iraqi Information Minister.
