just wondering why the myriad of you i fight with daily (lol) are republicans?

i'm not being harsh or a bitch, i'm honestly just wondering how young people today can be republican or believe in the ideals of such a group.

ps - before anyone says 'you're a dumb democrat'. i'm not a democrat. i would say i'm closest to a humanist/ animalist/ environmentalist type but prefer to be my own individual self instead of being grouped into a catagory.

they make over 250,000 a year i can see that but then they've also got enough money to pay those taxes.

i understand that.. what about other issues tho?

I always thought that this issue and the fact that republicans are usually pro life were the biggest reasons.

A lot of republicans also dislike goverment intervention in public services like health care. This is a big difference between supporters of the two parties...but this issue can again go back to higher taxes.

Re: why are you republican

while im not hard core republican, i would be considered it if you only allowed for the two party system. (im actually libertarian, as im extremely socially liberal and believe the nationalization of a few industries would do us good.). but to highlight why i hold SOME republican ideals true and valueable.... in one word. MONEY. its the final, end all, be alkl reasoining behind anything we do. its the reason youpush yourself beyond the local club night, the reason i work 70 hours a week.particularly the markets. they always prefer a conservative congress, not GW neo-con(they are conservative, they are overreaching, spend too much, and act like democrats, but with far right ideas, think reagan instead). and a huge reason i grew up with this idea is that my father is a self employed business owner who fits into barak's idea of rich. i.e. he makes above 250 a year. why should he be taxed so much for his hard work and his dollars be re-funneled into the ideas of welfare, and other social prodjects he will never need. thats just one aspect. i am a hardline beleiver in free market economics, they work when allowed to operate without interference from govt or media. regulatory laws shuld only be in place for essentials(insurance, medications, most notably). democrats would rather share wealth than create wealth, and that leads to market stagnation, historically speaking.

general rule of thumb in accounting, finance, economics and the associated industries, is that an administration (disregard this one, it is breaking every rule for the most part) does not have tis policies felt for no less than 6-7 years after it leaves office. (i.e. the first large national debt after new deal). and on top of that, the market averages tend to react negatively to a democratic congress(our current state, thanks in part to barney frank's imitation of the NOLA levy board while he headed the house finance comittee.) this is not a debatable opinion, it is a historical fact. a trend that has existed since the opening of the NYSE.

but on the other hand, i agree with you entirely regarding some of the points you make about about the current republican party. they are vile in so many ways. gays rights is a biggie with me, as is a woman's right to choose. the wuestion i ask often is "why does a 50 year old man in DC feel it neccessary to tell a woman in LA she cannot have an abortion even if its because of rape/incest? (i hate pallin, she is hitler with a smile, even her speeches remind me of david duke).. the incessant need to intervene bothers me. while the iraq war may have a long term benifit, it has set the world's relations to the fire pot of the middle east back no less than 30 years. russia is once again eager to pounce. yet again we are hearing from left wing autocrats, from asia to south america. the current administrations idea of "republicanism" is so far skewed its disgusting, but so is teh democrats, they are lost in thier own stupidity.

to recall an analogy i used before

bush's administration is to republicanism, what tiesto is to trance.

ie they took a wonderful; idea (reagan's republican/sasha's trance) and warped into a tool to manipulate the masses through nonsense.

i cant fathom ever embracing a true democratic party ideal outside of thier social rights stances, and i guess this is why i am now begging people to look into libertarian party. conservative in spending, small govt , extremely socially liberal, even more so than the current democratic party. and conservative in the right way ni regards to foreign policy, military SAVINGS(not spending) etc.

i could go on in respect to taxes and aforementioned property rights, but they are obvious points of view)

Re: why are you republican

I’m independent but with conservative ideals. I believe in small government. People should be allowed to choose what is best for them, not the government. Yes, the last 8yrs have been horrible, but even tough Bush is a republican it doesn’t mean he acted like one. He is more to the left then people think. Under him, the government got bigger which is what I am against. Now with Obama and possibly a full democrat controlled congress, the government will even get bigger. Also, I do not believe in taxing someone more based on their success. Granted, I am cool with gay marriage and other liberal views but just hate the government getting involved with people’s lives. There really needs to be more political parties out there. Its ridiculous that we only get 2 main people to choose from.

Re: why are you republican

so if its all about tax and money then what about the other things republicans argue over... like females rights to their bodies, abortions, heathcare, and all the sort of social aspects of society that the republicans generally dumb down... .

are you guys anti abortion? and if not how can you be part of a party that is?

just trying to understand how you guys break things up of importance... is obvious the republicans don't respect women nor their bodies and that goes wayyyyy back to the religious right.

what do you guys feel about that? having religious so intermixed in our politics and pushed upon us?

do you guys not think being an openminded person and allowing the freedom and protection of us all is a good thing? i hear liberals get such a bad name as if its so wrong to want equality, etc. lol.

Re: why are you republican

money above all, then social +civil rights, then foreign policy.

i am proudly pro choice, pro gay rights, and i believe in nationalizing pharmaceudical copmanies. no one should make a dime off of curing cancer or aids. healthcare itself, has shown to go negative in socialised healthcare. the smarter doctors go where the money is. and they have every right to. just like you can pick the higher ticket between two club nights vying for your services. but to counter this, i also, and its in the threads, beleive in a socialised insurance system, that can be opted out of for better coverage for those can afford/want it. but when you take the two ideas i present and mix them with halthcare itself(doctors), it goes downhill. the medical professions in these areas are limited in service, have lower success, lower levels of care(quality) etc.

That is why I am an independent and not a republican. I think there are many cases where an abortion should be the woman’s choice. I am for gay rights as well. But I am not going to make that a deciding factor in my vote. I care more about how much control the government has in our lives. As for healthcare let me decide who I want to get healthcare from. Let the people deal directly with the providers and not have to depend on working for a big company to get decent healthcare. Also, don’t nationalize it. It doesn’t work. The government is not the answer to our problems, they are the problem.

the nature of property rights, and the consequences, and benefits, thereof.

liberals tend to take the position that is against property rights, though I give them high marks on property rights of the person, that is, pro-choice. Otherwise, they're pretty dogshit on the rest.

Re: why are you republican

Here's how it worked for me... When I was in college, I was a liberal. Sure, help EVERYONE, was my way of thinking... Being out of college, and realizing that free handouts are no longer going to happen, that's when I realized that lower taxes are going to help me out.

That's about as simple as I can describe it.

Young people, that aren't in the workforce, or who do not have a mortgage, or do not have to pay property taxes, do not understand what it means to be liberal, IMO.

It's a damn good thing that I don't listen/watch MTV or the local rap stations anymore, because being a democrat and voting for Barack Obama has been shoved down every listener/viewers throats...It's also a damn good thing that I'm not as impressionable as I once was...

Re: why are you republican

not at all. i simply beleive that everyone has rights. including the right to make money, and the right to walk into a hospital and be treated. the only contradictory part would be that the rich person would have better doctors.

other than that i dunno. if you think that my opinion about medicinal profits is skewed, go find a single parent who has a child with cancer. i have through volunteer work with charities, trust me, its a real reality show fof TV that would bring emotions you never felt.

Actually, no hospital can turn someone away. However a child with cancer is another story. I donate every year for cancer, especially where children are concerned. Nationalizing health care would make it even worse for them to get treatment. I do not mind paying extra in taxes only if the money is guaranteed to go to children fighting terminal illnesses. Re: why are you republican

where are we missing each other. i am hell beant against nationalizing healthcare. healthcare does not equal a chemical company who researches medicine. medicine should be sold at cost. there shuold be no marketing. it either serves its purpose or it doesnt, and if a better option is out there, it should replace the lessor.

this doesnt mean nationlalizing the healthcare. it just means ensuring medicine(prescriptions and treatments) is available.

Re: why are you republican

i am conservative for some of the reasons posted above (taxation, govt control, property rights) and i am pro-life (exception being rape - chloe says who gives people rights over women's bodies? well when you have a baby in your womb, it's no longer just your body now, is it? liberals/democrats want rights for prisoners in guantanamo and are against death penalty, yet they support killing of innocent babies), i am pro-gay-rights (i am all for allowing them unions equal under the law as long as they are not called marriages.

@ chloe: i also am a humanist, animalist, and environmentalist.

Same here...Except I will not kill an animal. Just can't, with the exception that me or a loved one's life is in danger. Then it's kill or be killed, IMO.
