Ken Adelman is a lifelong conservative Republican. Campaigned for Goldwater, was hired by Rumsfeld at the Office of Economic Opportunity under Nixon, was assistant to Defense Secretary Rumsfeld under Ford, served as Reagan’s director of arms control, and joined the Defense Policy Board for Rumsfeld’s second go-round at the Pentagon, in 2001. Adelman’s friendship with Rumsfeld, Cheney, and their wives goes back to the sixties, and he introduced Cheney to Paul Wolfowitz at a Washington brunch the day Reagan was sworn in
now that I'm seeing this, I think I've got a clue what's going on: PNAC is trying to get thier hands on McCain and Obama; why have all your eggs in one basket, indeed.

Interesting though....

Re: Ken Adelman going Obama?

cool article...

On why Obama:
Primarily for two reasons, those of temperament and of judgment.

When the economic crisis broke, I found John McCain bouncing all over the place. In those first few crisis days, he was impetuous, inconsistent, and imprudent; ending up just plain weird. Having worked with Ronald Reagan for seven years, and been with him in his critical three summits with Gorbachev, I’ve concluded that that’s no way a president can act under pressure.

Second is judgment. The most important decision John McCain made in his long campaign was deciding on a running mate.

That decision showed appalling lack of judgment. Not only is Sarah Palin not close to being acceptable in high office—I would not have hired her for even a mid-level post in the arms-control agency. But that selection contradicted McCain’s main two, and best two, themes for his campaign—Country First, and experience counts. Neither can he credibly claim, post-Palin pick.
THANK YOU, KEN. My sentiments exactly. It ended up being these two issues, along with his persistently negative campaign, that did McCain in for me as far as being a viable candidate.

Re: Ken Adelman going Obama?

It's becoming increasingly apparent that McCain's selection of Bible Spice as his running mate may end up doing more harm than good. She's gotten the whackjobs fired up, to be sure, but she just doesn't sit well with intelligent, rational people, ideology notwithstanding.

what makes you think that intelligent rational people are in any majority? what this election proves is that truth has no bearing on belief. rationality is dead. public elections do not work. the founding fathers failed. back to the drawing board.

^nah, the experiment did not fail. That's like saying the Bank of England was broken of its own accord, and not by George Soros.

I think the Founders' discussion on Factions was probably not complete enough.

Didn't say that, my point is far more limited. The GOP is comprised of various different factions of people. The knuckle-dragging racists seem to be getting the most press right now, but there are plenty of people that support republican policies for rational, thoughtful reasons.

These are the people I'm referring to -- the people that would ordinarily be inclined to favor a republican, but who look at the totality of the circumstances and decide that this time, that's not a good idea. These people are starting to speak out -- and that's not good for McCain.

However, two observations:

 1. Over the long run, human nature does not really change. The distribution of "goods" and "bads" is pretty much constant over time given a large enough sample size of humans. There may be some localized cyclical variation within finite periods of time, but what we're seeing today is on the whole about the same as it's always been.

 2. Representative democracy and public elections are flawed. The only problem is, the alternatives have arguably not proven themselves to consistently be better. Why? See Observation #1.

Conclusion: Any process that involves a large number of people is basically guaranteed to suck in one way or another.
