He did not claim he now makes more than $250,000; he said he plans to acquire a small company that would put him in that bracket. And it's curious that Politico states that Wurzelbacher "would receive a tax cut if Obama were elected president"--as if Obama's campaign promises have already achieved the status of established fact.

As for his unpaid taxes, blogger "Patterico" reports that Obama's campaign treasurer has liens for unpaid taxes. That isn't exactly an earth-shattering scandal either, but it is hard to see how it is less relevant than Wurzelbacher's liens.
It's okay unless Obama's treasurer asks Obama a tough question. And how likely is that?

Re: If you mess with Obama,

Crazy hypothesis: What if Joe the Plumber was somehow planted - they figured out where Obama was headed and arranged something with a McCain sympathizer on the right street... He just happens to be this all-American "Joe Sixpack"...he happens to phrase that perfect question eyeing that $250k mark...he just happens to be the "spontaneous" centerpiece of McCain's ad campaign now. It's probably not actually the case, and I have no evidence...but nothing would surprise me.

Let's remember - it was Obama's response that started everything. If Obama would have said something other than "I just want to spread the wealth around", none of this would even be an issue.

Re: If you mess with Obama,

^^ Yeah, what he said was concerning to me. But I think there's a good chance it would still be an issue, even if he has worded it differently.

Hmmm. I think it's too far fetched of a scheme. Obama and Biden just always put their feet in their mouths. Especially Biden, who seems to provide a gaffe a day these days.

They are attempting to destroy a man — a private citizen — who had the audacity to ask The One a question.

Mind you, Joe was on his front lawn playing football with his son when Obama strolled up to give him his hopenchange spiel. Obama approached Joe, not the other way around. And Joe asked Obama an honest question. And Obama gave him an honest — and very, very revealing — answer. Again, mind you, the embarassment was on Obama's end, not Joe's. It wasn't a gotcha question.

And yet, for that Joe is being pilloried, every aspect of his private and professional life being sorted through and exposed. To prove ... what? What does that have to do with Obama's answer? What does Joe's situation have to do with Obama's philosophical answer — that he wants to "spread the wealth"? Obama's answer goes down the memory hole while the nation concentrates its fire on obliterating Joe the Plumber.
Re: If you mess with Obama,

hey cosmo,

as one of the few conservative-minded people on this forum, let me tell you, there is no case for mccain. and there's a pretty damn strong case for obama. i would love to rehash all my arguments, but why? it's been done before. if you've got something new, then bring it on, i'll consider it Objectively.

I didn't think it was embarrassing for either of them . As you said honest question , honest answer . I was impressed that he got such a complete answer.

Personally I hate that his private life was exposed, but, It was McCain who put this guy into the spotlight and made him vulnerable to all the associated investigations.

Somehow though, I think he will come out of it all right. As someone on a local TV show said last night, he has done more Interviews than Sarah Palin :D:D:D

Can you even name one thing that has particularly gone WELL at the government level during the past eight years?? At this point, I'm so desperate that I'd just about sign up for anything other than another four of that.
