what disturbs me more than just the normal threat of assassination that is leveled against any head-of-state is the seed that has been planted for self-fulfilling prophecy concerning an Obama assassination. since comparisons have been made to him and JFK, MLK, people also just think that there's a higher threat of a similar fate. then it gets discussed in the media, and pretty soon there's every historical rationale to assassinate him, all in one:

1. the assassination would be the highest profile ever, even bigger than Lincoln
2. he's black (FOIAP)
3. he's a powerful liberal
4. awareness of the fact that people like him have been assassinated leads some nutjobs inevitably to believe it's somehow thier "duty" to complete the cycle
5. in some people's minds he threatens to disrupt the order of the county

seriously, if he makes it into the White House, he better not leave for four years.

sadly, i beleive some asshole will go after both him and mccain. whoever wins will be a serious target. obama just has more of a bullseye b4 the election. fucking sad, i mean, i hate the guys, but i dont want to see either of them have to deal with shit like this.

I dunno. All of this kinda assumes that people make a conscious decision to assassinate the president, where they weigh the pros and cons and think about it rationally. In this day and age, I would think that anyone considering assassinating Obama would have to have a screw loose. Sane people do not think that way.

The reality is that public figures become targets for assassination in part because they are public figures. Obama probably does face a slightly higher risk because, let's face it, he's black and there are some racist jackasses out there that find that to be a sufficient reason to want to do him harm, but even the most racist person would have to be pretty unhinged to actually try such a thing. Even if that's a factor that pushes some nut over the brink, they still have to be a nut to begin with...

I bet this happens more than we hear about...

thats what i said earlier talking to a co-worker... we are probably only hearing about what hits the local police wires.. im sure there are quite a efw that the FBI and secret service deal with quietly.

what scares me as well is that obama will win, and once his quote/unquote apostate past hits the fan over in fundy land. they will be gunning for him. that is one of the worst things in thier societal views. and they are the ones who dont care about dying. it will be taken as a major insult that america elected a guy who left islam.

and mccain will face the same thing if he pulls a miracle and wins. some left wing nut will try to do something.
