In the end it does come down to who actually votes and the Repub's have had the upper hand in that area for a while.

You know what that bounce is?

All the christians who refused to vote mccain until he pandered to them. Now that he's got a christocrat, they'll vote for him. McCain could actually be pro-choice, and they'd still vote for him because palin's asserted pentacostal delusions.

They can't possibly base this on any information about palin aside from her religion, because nobody knows anything about where she stands.

He got a massive surge of energy from Palin's speech. Trick for McCain will be trying to balance the need to get her out there to keep that energy alive, and the campaign's apparent desire to keep her closely managed.
