Re: Palingate

four children, her water broke, then gave a speech anyways, THEN flew back to alaska from texas to give birth subsequent to her doctor's approval?

i'm not a doctor, but i cannot fathom an 8-month pregnant woman taking such a risk...

Re: Palingate

ok ok, so the rumour is false. still pretty fucked up that some news like this dropped and sarah palin only stepped into the national scene a mere 72 hours ago. makes you wonder how well mccain did the vetting on this lady http://www.nytimes.com/2008/09/02/us/politics/02vetting.html?pagewanted=1&hp

Re: Palingate

i actually feel bad for the family, not gthe VP choice herself, just the family. if they had in inkling about this, why would they even consider putting themselves in the public eye. that kid's life is now officially destroyed.

Here's a radical thought I just had in the shower: Suppose that Palin was a proxy pick for the moment, but not the intended one.

Consider for a moment that Palin has the most plausible reason to say, in a few weeks time, "i can't do this, thanks, but my family is important". It would keep McCain's fundamentalist xtians voting for him (which i still believe they would do anyways), and he'd then be free to choose a more moderate candidate (as i've mentioned to Shosh, Olympia Snowe out of Maine) which has been his desire all along. He gets the last minute switch of PUMA voters, the religious-right, conservatives, hawkish libertarians, he gets the media spotlight on him when she bows out, but also through the weeks when he picks a new one (leading up to the election), and then WHEN he picks a new VP to take her place.

BETTER, Palin could play this i-was-picked-as-vp for as long as she stayed in alaskan politics. And, she could start being groomed for a future presidential election. (not to say that this would ultimately happen).

That she was vetted so weakly, and that he talked to her only once and for a few minutes, I think, supports this thought.

this post should seriously be in a new thread....

If you want brilliant strategies, it doesn't get better than this.

Re: Palingate

smoke and mirrors + distractions + "hey look over there!!" = republican strategy.
