It's official: George W Bush is the worst president ever. OK, maybe not officially official, for the reasons identified in the article, but official enough to feel like my belief has been vindicated:

Anyone here care to stand up for him?:lol::lol::lol:

Re: Worst President Ever

What I find annoying is the fact that everywhere American's are dissing George Bush for whatever reason...

FOR FUCK SAKE...American's elected George Bush to serve TWO terms...if he's such a bad president than America MUST be filled with mentally retarded individuals who simply crossed the wrong box and all the dissing ever done against Americans must be true.

The worst matter is the fact that in the next elections you're gonna elect someone like McCain or that other whore Clinton.
I swear if I lived in America I would move... Well I suppose every nation deserves its government...

toasty - you are preachin' to the choir here. I saw a headline on some UK paper after the 2004 election. It said something like "How can 59,000,000 people be so dumb?" That just about sums it up.

Re: Worst President Ever

everyone is intitled to their own opinion regarding bush and his administration.what i read here was somewhat of concrete evidence and somewhat bias opinion. yeah, it is a fact that our country is in a recession, yeah the poverty rate is all time high due to the unemployment rate and inflation. if i can remember correctly, didn't bush enter his presidency with a national deficit of 4 trillion, and what is it now somewhere around 9 trillion? i absolutely agree that bush dug our nation into a deeper hole by getting involved in an unnecessary war, and other fucked up choices, but i can hardly believe that this is the worse to come. the falling of our government along with our nation's economic status didn't start with bush, nevertheless he was a major contributor to this equation...

Re: Worst President Ever

The Subject line to this thread should say something like, "George W. Bush: Worst County Sheriff Ever" instead of what it says. How the f*** did this man ever get elected president anyway? The man can't even speak.

Re: Worst President Ever

Pretty sure the country was running surplus budget wise when GWB took office in 2000. Bad business skills, had to let personal adgendas get in the way. Tough to way judgement on 9/11, people in the states were in a panic, a retrobutional fever. The war has sent the US the path the former Soviet Union found upon invading Afganistan, financial ruin. No doubt GWB will go down as one of biggest failures of all time, but he no more than a reflection of his country, self interested opportunists. Not too many people were bitching when the stock market hit 14K, but now that the word recession is being tossed around, things are looking a bit messy. The larger issue is how about the next president, has this country hit bottom, third world status right around the corner, or rouge nationalist state? Gonna be fun, no doubt about that, buddy.

Re: Worst President Ever

September 27, 2000 Web posted at: 4:51 p.m. EDT (2051 GMT) WASHINGTON (CNN) -- President Clinton announced Wednesday that the federal budget surplus for fiscal year 2000 amounted to at least $230 billion, making it the largest in U.S. history and topping last year's record surplus of $122.7 billion.

Instead, the president explained, the $5.7 trillion national debt has been reduced by $360 billion in the last three years -- $223 billion this year alone.

The federal budget surplus for fiscal year 1999 was $122.7 billion, and $69.2 billion for fiscal year 1998. Those back-to-back surpluses, the first since 1957, allowed the Treasury to pay down $138 billion in national debt.

No matter what some of the members of this board have said in the past (Jenks I am looking at you) I still think Clinton was the best president for the US in the last 20-25 years EVEN though during his administration the city I lived in was bombed by NATO.

Re: Worst President Ever

bush couldn't be the worst president in history. everything that's fucked up today is largely due to him, sure. but his ability to have such influence extends much further back in history. some presidents before him set up the system the way it is. bush only chaired it in a way that he was permitted to.

I think the worst president was FDR. Bush comes a close, but not too close, second. they're suprisingly a bit alot a like

Re: Worst President Ever

in 2004, the democrats didnt really put forth a good opponent to bush.

is the best they could do was a 7 foot tall Frankenstein monster look alike? i mean cmon... anyone other than him and bush would not of gotten elected i believe.

theres no possible way anyone could have liked kerry as much as people like obama... or hillary for that matter.

FWIW, many historians tend to put FDR at the other end of the spectrum, behind just Washington and Lincoln. As you might have guessed, I tend to be left of center in my politics, but I have tended to agree with you 98% of the time Mariner. If I remember correctly, you said that you are conservative. I was waiting to see some difference in our politics. With this I finally found one. Just thought it was interesting to point out. :)

Would I be correct in thinking you agreed with many of Ron Paul's policy positions? He is the one Republican with whom I agreed much.

historians put FDR in the 'good' end without addressing the consequences of his terms. all of his 'positive' points are limited to what happened while he was in office, but is rarely ever expanded to the long-term consequences. Dare we forget is threat to pack the supreme, the authorization of internment camps for japanese americans, ad nauseum. At least Bush hasn't gone to such a length as going this route. You may agree that FRD was a good president, but you can only do so to the extent that you isolate his term from what followed as a result.

But what about Lincoln? All he did was trash the Constitution by giving his generals free reign to murder civilains, declared martial law, suspended habeas corpus, siezed privat property without compensation (railroads and telegraphs, iirc), conducted a war without congressional authorization, imprsoned thousands of northern citizens wihtout trial, and imposed the lovely income tax we now have today. That's just a short list of the top of my head.

I would put jimmy carter up there as well, for his nice handiwork in Iran. You know, the stuff that preciptated the dogshit mess we're in now.

Republicans and Democrats alike share a wealth of horrible presidencies.

It's interesting to note that, although you're left-of-center, we (i being the conservative) are nearly always in step with our positions on certain topics.

There's an excellent explanation for this. But i dont' have the time to get into it just yet, and it's not the thread to do so.

Re: Worst President Ever

To be honest anyone who places himself at any side of the political spectrum IMO is not a very bright cookie...you should decide on an issue by issue basis where you stand rather than saying I am this or that...as for FDR you should perhaps investigate a bit further as he is not so leftist as you might think. The banking laws he introduced and the reforms he made in banking are one of the main forces behind neo-imperialism and gloabalization to this day...

It would be very difficult to find a president in US history that can be called truly great indeed in any country for that matter...perhaps James Garfield since there was very little he could screw up in the 6 months he was president.

By the commonly used definitions, being liberal does not mean being fundamentally anti-capitalism/anti-business. It's all relative ;) FDR is considered leftist/liberal just in the sense that he presided over one of the biggest expansions of the federal government, EVER. Much of that obviously had to do with his attempts to struggle with the Great Depression and the second world war, for better or for worse...

also...I'm not sure if the right measure of a great president should be not having enough time to screw anything up  But yeah generally I don't like strict party-line thinking... That said, there are numerous reports about how Obama actually has an extremely high IQ - probably among the highest of any presidential candidate. Not to say that that means he will be "great"...
