Either that or he wranglin' with one big tenacious D.

#275014Post 6 of 44

Its funny this was brought up. I got the same feeling when I was watching the debate. His answers just sounded like he was repeating something and as if they weren't coming from himself, but I blew it off as nothing since the responses seemed a bit like Bush (read dumb). If anyone gets a chance to see this again look for the pauses he'd make that seemed a bit out of place.

Anyways I doubt he has implants as the article said. The CIA has contact lenses that are able to record video, why wouldn't Bush be able to get a hold of some "invisible" earieces?

Come on - don't you think if he had an earpiece and some sort of secret real-time scripting that he would sound a tad bit more coherent? ;)

Re: Bush with Earpiece???

Story from Salon:

"Was President Bush literally channeling Karl Rove in his first debate with John Kerry? That's the latest rumor flooding the Internet, unleashed last week in the wake of an image caught by a television camera during the Miami debate. The image shows a large solid object between Bush's shoulder blades as he leans over the lectern and faces moderator Jim Lehrer. The president is not known to wear a back brace, and it's safe to say he wasn't packing. So was the bulge under his well-tailored jacket a hidden receiver, picking up transmissions from someone offstage feeding the president answers through a hidden earpiece? Did the device explain why the normally ramrod-straight president seemed hunched over during much of the debate?

--snip--

Was it possible the bulge had been Photoshopped onto Bush's back by a lone conspiracy buff? It turns out that all of the video of the debate was recorded and sent out by Fox News, the pool broadcaster for the event. Fox sent feeds from multiple cameras to the other networks, which did their own on-air presentations and editing.

To watch the debate again, I ventured to the Web site of the most sober network I could think of: C-SPAN. And sure enough, at minute 23 on the video of the debate, you can clearly see the bulge between the president's shoulder blades.

--snip--

So what was it? Jacob McKenna, a spyware expert and the owner of the Spy Store, a high-tech surveillance shop in Spokane, Wash., looked at the Bush image on his computer monitor. "There's certainly something on his back, and it appears to be electronic," he said. McKenna said that, given its shape, the bulge could be the inductor portion of a two-way push-to-talk system. McKenna noted that such a system makes use of a tiny microchip-based earplug radio that is pushed way down into the ear canal, where it is virtually invisible. He also said a weak signal could be scrambled and be undetected by another broadcaster.

Mystery-bulge bloggers argue that the president may have begun using such technology earlier in his term. Because Bush is famously prone to malapropisms and reportedly dyslexic, which could make successful use of a teleprompter problematic, they say the president and his handlers may have turned to a technique often used by television reporters on remote stand-ups. A reporter tapes a story and, while on camera, plays it back into an earpiece, repeating lines just after hearing them, managing to sound spontaneous and error free.

Suggestions that Bush may have using this technique stem from a D-day event in France, when a CNN broadcast appeared to pick up -- and broadcast to surprised viewers -- the sound of another voice seemingly reading Bush his lines, after which Bush repeated them. Danny Schechter, who operates the news site MediaChannel.org, and who has been doing some investigating into the wired-Bush rumors himself, said the Bush campaign has been worried of late about others picking up their radio frequencies -- notably during the Republican Convention on the day of Bush's appearance. "They had a frequency specialist stop me and ask about the frequency of my camera," Schechter said. "The Democrats weren't doing that at their convention."

This is a transparent accusation. If this were true, dont you think the DEMOCRATS would hang BUSH for it. Of course, it would destroy his career, and NO presidential incumbant(whos is leading in the polls by the way, not by much but leading) would self destruct by doing something like this. Notice the issue is getting ZERO national press coverage???! hmmmm lets get back to thinking with our brains and not our emotions.

I will offer one explanation though for what appeared to be the 'personal struggles' with BUSH, why the pausing etc... I saw an interview with an analyst who said that historically it is waaay more difficult being the incumbent in a debate, particularly on foreign policy, because you simply know sooo much. Bush gets ALL the intelligence, but most of it is TOP SECRET. He could EASILY argue his point if he could tell america what he knows, which is a HELL of alot more than what any other government official comes close to having knowledge on. Kerry is in the position to ATTACK ATTACK ATTACK, as BUSH needs to defend these attacks, he is very limited as to what he can say and can't!! This is why he kept saying its 'hard work' so many times, and that 'America is safer, and the world is better off' Its because he has to use his words VERY CAREFULLY!! If KERRY wasnt ABSENT in over 67% of Intelligence Committee Hearings, he might be a bit more in tune with the real threat, and not just focus on Americas reputation, or a 'global test', from countries who already hate us and will always be our secret enemy, atleast with current administrations such as France and Germany. Bush is REAL, he is not the quitessential politician such as KERRY or EDWARDS, who put on a fake tan and teeth whitener, and expect to charm the public and gain political notoriety by taking on a hollywood actors role, sacrificing their personal convictions with what trends are of popular opinion.

Guess what, joker? The New York Times just chimed in on the subject on Friday: http://www.nytimes.com/2004/10/09/politics/campaign/09bulge.html?ex=1098380447&ei=1&en=2b89fabf9416ae6c

""There was nothing under his suit jacket," said Nicolle Devenish, a campaign spokeswoman.

"It was most likely a rumpling of that portion of his suit jacket, or a wrinkle in the fabric."

Ms. Devenish could not say why the "rumpling" was rectangular.

Nor was the bulge from a bulletproof vest, according to campaign and White House officials; they said Mr. Bush was not wearing one."

A "rumpling of the fabric" that just happened to be rectangular. Please.

Joker???hahah, ok um LobsterPenis, seems your dickbeaters are getting a bit too clamy. Try releasing your grip from the New York Times's jock strap, that might do the trick. As far as your response to my comments, its hilarious how after you disected my opinion, the only point you could challenge is whether the issue has gained national attention. Your pathetic, poser. Tell your alter ego 'Toasty' that I said 'HI'

It's a very simple concept, called staying ON-TOPIC. I'm sure you've heard of it before. I responded merely to the bit that has anything to do with this particular thread. The rest was hogwash, frankly, and completely unsubstantiated.

Check out the BBC. Guess which broadcaster broke the Florida scandal?? No US News network was running that story now were they.

Take it from me, the American Broadcast Media is very selective in the stories it runs and the way the news is presented.

Of Course they're going to deny it.

Why would they admit to the fact that their boy is too inept to speak on his own?

Despite all these claims of it being a "wrinkle" or "rumple" in the fabric, none of this explains why he said "Can I finish??" when clearly no one was interrupting him.

Re: Bush with Earpiece???

For something that "No major News stories are covering" this story sure seems to be making the rounds all of the sudden. http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/ap/20041010/ap_on_el_pr/bush_bulge

The new spin: "Campaign officials declined to discuss it further because they weren't certain a bulge even existed and do not want to appear to take seriously what they consider a "wild accusation."

Can everyone here admit there is most definitely a rectangular lump, with a snaky wire looking thing heading up?

Re: Bush with Earpiece???

:FuckOff:

This absolutely blows my mind - further proof that some people out there will believe a-n-y-t-h-i-n-g. Just imagine if these conspiracy theorists channeled their energy towards a more useful or relevant enterprise, instead we have websites and "news" reports devoted to such nonsense.
Aside from just plain common sense, there are two obvious reasons why this is total garbage:

1st - he's the President of the frickin United States of America, if he wanted to have his lines fed to him from a separate source he would have used a tiny wireless receiver - something a little more subtle, something that wouldn't be as visible. Do you really think he would strap a bulky friggin receiver to his back and run the wire up through his jacket and into his ear? Is Crockett and Tubbs outfitting the President with covert technology? It's 2004 people, there's more high tech equipment in an alarm clock than what you're suggesting he used - you'd think the leader of the free world would have some more modern gadgetry at his disposal.

2nd - if he was getting coached then who the hell was feeding him the lines, Mushmouth? Bush was a mess in that 1st debate, a total flustered mess. Wouldn't his answers have been more coherent, more precise and more consistent if he had an aide with all the information laid out in front of them coaching the President along? Isn't the idea behind this kind of espionage to avoid the exact problems Bush had in that first debate?

Unreal, some people will look for any possiblity no matter how impossible it is. Well keep looking kids, the truth....is....out there :Who:

#276003Post 22 of 44

Re: Bush with Earpiece???

If it's so completely ridiculous and asinine, then you should easily be able to point out exactly what the rectangular object in the back of his jacket actually is. Furthermore, you can explain why he said "Let me finish" from out of nowhere, when no one was interrupting him.

Finally, you can explain why the Republicans insisted that the cameras be fixed and only show straight-on shots? Restrictions which thankfully, our semi-free press ignored.

#276158Post 23 of 44

Re: Bush with Earpiece???
what the rectangular object in the back of his jacket actually is.
Let's see, perhaps a crease in his shirt causing the stage lights to bend shadows and play tricks on your eyes. You'll do well to remember that these guys are wearing suits, not club gear. If you've ever dressed in a suit, you'd know that the button down shirt isn't skin tight and can bunch up when hunched over for periods of time as the President is in that picture. Next.
Furthermore, you can explain why he said "Let me finish" from out of nowhere, when no one was interrupting him.
What are trying to say here, that the President was telling this voice in his head - who you claim was there to help him - to shut up? In an argument that already makes no sense, this is even more ludicrous. Why would he tell his own help to keep quiet? Instead of telling this mysterious voice to quiet down, perhaps the President was trying to prevent the moderator from cutting him off and moving to the next question before the they said anything. A pre-emptive "let me finish" so that that he could end his point before he was interrupted. Maybe you can explain then why Cheney, Kerry and Edwards all made a similar move as well. I'm sure this has happened even when you debate - the guy speaking has something he wants to get out and he knows that someone else (in this case the moderator) is going to jump in and cut him off, so he tries to prevent that by saying something like "let me finish".
why the Republicans insisted that the cameras be fixed and only show straight-on shots? Restrictions which thankfully, our semi-free press ignored.
Then why isn't there any other shots from that same angle showing this foreign object? Did they use that side camera once and only once during that entire debate? Nope. There were other shots using that camera that don't show anything. Other moments when that angle was used and, guess what - no sign of any little square on his back. Where's the other visual evidence to support your claim? You have one second of one shot and that shows nothing but shadows and that's all you have.

Now it's your turn. Explain why, in 2004, the President is using spy tech from the 1970's. When you're done with that explain why he wasn't coached by someone a little more eloquent and clear in his speech.

And I'll even help you along with that second question. In instances where speakers have gotten coaching from off site coordinators, they are rarely given entire sentences to repeat. Instead the person on the other end of the mic will give them talking points, quick little bits of info that the speaker will run with. It doesn't make sense for the guy on one end to give long, full sentences while the guy on the podium waits in silence and probably forgets 1/2 the things he's heard.

So I'll play devil's advocate and give you that one. Explain then why the President repeated himself almost word for word at some instances. Don't you think this voice in his ear would have given him some more precise information so as not to seem that he was just repeating himself over and over again?

#276184Post 24 of 44

BSully, very well stated. Lobster um, again you being the naive conspiracy theorist that your historical for being, should stick to fighting the battles that you can possibly win. The presidents tailor, who made the suit himself, officially said that it was a crease in the fabrics, the way he was leaning over caused that crease. Period. Maybe you've never worn a suit before, but take it from us who do...the fabric doesnt ALWAYS stay straight like you've doused it in starch. Same way when your wearing jeans and sit down, the material in the crotch area folds up and makes it look like you have a STIFF GOOSENECK. Come on now Lobster, im sure THAT has atleast happened to you. ....im sure you'll play dumb on this one also.

Re: Bush with Earpiece???

Did anyone ever think since the camera was not on the moderator that maybe Bush saw that Leher was about to interput him so he cut him instantly??

Great pictures here, with 28 different images where the bulge is noticeable. http://cryptome.org/bush-bulge-28.jpg

You'll see it's particularly noticeable when Bush hunches, or leans over. I'll get to the rest in a few.

^^I see what you're talking about, but I don't see why that can't be a fold in the suit. Makes for an interesting story, but nothing more.

Honestly, there are so many other legitmate reasons to dislike Bush, this seems like grasping at straws...

While i will agree it doesnt make alot of sense that in the 21st century they would need to tape a big box to his back there is one problem with your theory. According to the article quoted on this site, Bush said that 60 seconds into the 90 second time alotment (i dont know if this is true though) and there were absolutely no warning lights appearing in the video.
The 'let me finish' quip was clearly bush talking to ( probably Rove) in his earpiece- saying let me finish before you give me the next answer. He blows it 60 sec into his 90 sec reply- so no warning lights had gone off and lehrer had not motioned for him to end as he had plenty of time left.
And the fact that there is a big box on his back may be necessary in some way because he isnt using a conventional 70's technology wire to earpiece.

I mean do you really think with all of the incredibly stupid things bush has said over the years that you would be surprised if they tried. Its not just Bush's job thats lost if he loses this election. I would be absolutely horrified if my job for the next 4 years depended on George Bush's debating skills.

In anycase we'll probably never know, it could very well be a wrinkle in his shirt and people may be overreacting. But man open your mind a little bit. Try not to believe EVERYTHING your government tells you. That's a far more dangerous attitute to have. Thats the kind of attitude that makes it so easy for people in power to lie.

Dont you think in the 21st century with our high level of intelligence the govt would have a smaller more hidden device, say a wireless earbud, that no one would ever see. I see the lump, who knows, just doesnt jive with me.

I admit, Bush isn't the best debater. Some people are quick witted and some are not. Does the quick witted get the award over a scholar. I don't think debate tactics and skill is the only thing a candidate should be judged over. Why not read the debate, judge the words and statements for what they actually say vs. the way they were delivered.

I think the problem is over substance. Bush delivers the truth ineffectively, and Kerry delivers BullShit without truth or substance. He only says what his side wants to hear. He was a debater in school and has alot more practice.

Have any of you ever stood before an audience or crowd and withstood BullShit attacks on you personally? Have you ever had an aurgument with someone and knew they were lieing but you drew a blank mind and didn't know how to put it into words? Did that make you stupid, or human?

Come on people, look at the issues. Get off the emotional bandwagon, and think about who has the best ability to lead America. The people in the military are just as disguted with Kerry as they were with Clinton. Yet they honor (and die) for what Bush has led them to do.

Kerry has done absolutely nothing for 20 years in the Senate. He has no record, of any substance what so ever.

Bush is not perfect. Nobody is, and whoever is in the WH will make mistakes. But realize, whether you like it or not, we are at WAR. We didn't start it, and it is a war like no other. Asama declared war on America during Clintons 8 years.

This is WW4. (the cold war was WW3) It took a strong stance to bring down the WALL in Germany, and it will take a strong stance to bring down terrorism. Think about it, these are people who shoot children in the back running to their parents arms, AND make squilling 'animal slaughter' sounds to mock an innocence person while they saw off the head with a big knife.

Take this seriously people. We need strength now, and Bush has proven he does what he says, and can stand up to the pressure of the world, even if he cant debate well or defend lieing attacks with the best answeres.

Use your head, not your heart. Your heart can lead you astray. Think about the mistakes we have all made in past fallen relationships, where we followed an emotion from our heart, and said or did something unwise, and maybe later regretted it. Emotions are a good thing, but they can lead us the wrong way without good thought.

Stop getting your political news from MTV or CNN, and the liberal left sided slanted NY Times. Seek balance, listen to a talk radio show on the AM dial and get some true debate over the issues, not the emotions.

#283982Post 37 of 44

BTW, I think you should be more concerned over Kerry's choice of a good make up artist. Look at the picture above. His blush is a bit too pink, his lips a bit too red, and not to mention how white his new teeth appear.

Just trying to bring some light to this issue over non-issues.

Focus on SUBSTANCE!

gO W !!!!!

It's rather amusing that you throw this last line in there, considering your entire philosophy is taken directly from Fox News. You essentially recreated the entire Republican talking points-- Bush is a great leader, everything that has gone wrong in the last 4 years is Clinton's fault.

Re: Bush with Earpiece???

Nahh, I don't believe he was wearing an earpiece for one second. Even rockstars use smaller devices when playing their guitar, and they strap it on their belt. I can't imagine Bush's advisors would be stupid enough to tape some box-like thingy to his back, of all places. Total BS. If they did, they should've been watching more spy movies...

AM talk radio is about as far from a balanced source as you can come. The whole medium is overrun with conservative pundits (save the recently launched AirAmerica). I've said this before, but it bears mention again -- it has always struck me as appropriate that conservatives would cling to such an outdated medium to push their similarly outdated views.
