Surprised, but not sure if he should resign or not. I'm sure he had White House aspirations and the governor job was a stepping stone. His problem is that he's known for being tough as a prosecutor and many I'm sure many are enjoying his troubles. The old sayings of what comes around goes around and karma's a bitch come to mind.

Important to me is what was the wiretap for? Were the Feds trying to prosecute the prostitution ring and got a big catch or were the Feds out to get Spitzer? Is this a way to attack the Democrats in an election year? I'd like to hear more.

I think he absolutely should resign. Your integrity is ultimately all that you have - yes, even in politics - and we as a society should expect no less [I]especially[/I] from people who have carefully constructed their career around moral imperatives of fighting corruption, etc. He's a hypocrite and he should leave public office right away.

Yep, you're 100% right. Bums me out, too, because I viewed Spitzer as one of the good ones. I've litigated a lot of cases that came on the heels of a Spitzer investigation...

EXACTLY.. why does it always seem that when these people, politicians or whatever, are so adamently against something it turns out that they are hiding personal issues just as bad or worse than what they are campaigning against.. like that bloke soliciting gay sex in mens rooms.

Not gonna lie, I'm supporting Spitzer on this. I think he's a complete jackass and monster in other areas of his life, but this...is just stupid.

This amounts to Sean Hannity saying Barack Obama is going to force this country to become Muslim because he doesn't have the intellectual rigor of addressing the issues.

If Spitzer goes down, it should be because his views are abhorent.

You've completely missed the point. No one specifically cares that Spitzer screwed a whore. And everyone recognizes that politicians are oftentimes shady. What people care about is that he revealed himself to be a [I]complete hypocrite[/I]. Most people don't like it when someone very consciously builds a highly successful career for themselves judging [I]others[/I] from a position of moral righteousness and heavy-handedness...and then turns out to be just as scummy, if not moreso, than the people he vilified. Actually, he decisively tarnished many people's reputations on much more questionable grounds than his own circumstances.

I think its kinda sad that the media and society in general are so interested in and offended by this in comparison to other crimes currently being perpetrated. Yes, hypocrisy and the higher up it is does get people's attention. But look at how many US soldiers died in Iraq this week. So far I heard of 12 - and that was in three days. We are lucky if we ever even hear their names mentioned even once, if at all. I never heard them. The deaths were like a footnote after this Spitzer story. And we are not even allowed to see their coffins arrive in the US. Bush banned that. To me the soldiers' deaths and the reasons behind them being in Iraq is many powers greater more offensive that whatever Spitzer did. Not to mention the humanitarian crisis in Iraq. Problem is the Spitzer thing is salacious, and hubris is what sells. And holding an important office does not exempt one from being a sex addict, even if he harshly prosecutes them. In fact that is probably why he harshly prosecuted them, because it is something he despised in himself. I also don't see this as being particularly emblematic of politicians. It happens among all walks of life and social strata.

The girl, Ashley, is just a normal person doing what she's gotta do to survive. I don't care how much she got paid. Tricking is not glamourous. It leaves one feeling nasty, cheapened, and trashes self-esteem. I say cheapened because to put a price on sex is cheapening yourself because in my opinion that experience should be thought of as priceless, not replaceable. Anything with a value put on it is by definition, replaceable. And $4300? That's maybe two months rent in Manhattan - big whoop.

I am not making apologies for either of them. As consenting adults they will either accept responsibilty for their actions or they won't and may push the blame onto someone else. Either way it's their choice and we shouldn't really be surprised by any of this because it's just not that important or unusual.
