Re: Nader is running

I seriously wonder why this guy continues to run. He personally handed Bush the presidency in 2000, so perhaps having an impact, even without winning, was enough of a rush to his ego to make him want to keep doing this.

After 2004, though, I just don't get it. The guy spent all this time and effort, and ended up with zero electoral votes, which is the same number that my mother, my mailman, and my dog got, and they didn't even run. His impact was so low last time around, he's not going to be viewed as a legitimate candidate this time around, i.e., he's not going to have much of a platform to discuss the issues he wants to discuss.

Bottom line is that this run has nothing to do with winning or talking about his pet issues, and everything to do with padding his gargantuan ego. Ass-clown.

My opinion.
Nader Announces Plan to Wreck Election But Prominent Crackpots are Cool to Bid

Appearing on NBC’s “Meet the Press” today, consumer activist Ralph Nader told host Tim Russert that he has officially decided to wreck the 2008 presidential election.

Mr. Nader had been huddling with prominent crackpots over the weekend to determine whether he had enough support among his natural constituency, self-absorbed whack-jobs, to mount an entirely meaningless campaign.

“If I wreck the 2008 election, I intend to wreck it in all fifty states,” Mr. Nader told Mr. Russert today. “I have no intention of being merely a regional spoiler.”

When asked if his candidacy could hurt the chances of the first African-American nominee for president, Mr. Nader put his fingers in his ears and started going, “Lalalalalalalala I can’t hear you.”

But across the country, significant numbers of crackpots who have supported Mr. Nader in the past appeared to be cool to his latest bid to wreck a presidential election.

“If I’m going to waste my vote, I want to be sure I’m wasting it on the right wingnut,” said longtime crackpot Stacy Klujian, who has supported Rep. Ron Paul (R-Tex) in his 2008 campaign. “It is time for Ralph Nader to step aside for a new generation of bananaheads.”

For his part, Mr. Nader said that he had already begun preparing for his latest run as a spoiler by sneaking up behind people who were watching “No Country for Old Men” and telling them how it ended.

“It wasn’t as challenging as spoiling an entire election, but it was fun,” he said.
^^^ lol...I enjoy the borowitz report!

He doesn't run too late...he has this all figured out. Nader has absolutely no intention of winning, and he knows that this isn't what it's about; it's about him having a "free" platform to have his opinions heard in the best way he can. He's just using the elections as his personal megaphone. He doesn't run earlier because he knows that if he throws all his opinions out there for like a full extra year, then even the few people who do listen to him will get sick of it and shut him out. Like many idealists, he probably feels that even just the principle of the protesting speech against Washington is worth something, even if his whole campaign is truly hopeless.

exactly. if the guy is going to run, why doesn't he try to do anything that will garner him some ACTUAL attention. Then he can do all his preaching about how he's gonna fix the country.

Re: Nader is running

In my opinion, Nader secretly works for the Republicans. If anything, he's going to take votes that would have gone to a democrat just like ilast time.

Re: Nader is running

The guys is not stupid. I really like him as a consumer advocate. He just pops up once in a while. He has great NW support, which is not much, but people follow Nader pretty close.

Re: Nader is running

Did folks hear that he named his running mate -- Matt Gonzalez.

Yes, that Matt Gonzalez.

Just kidding. I'll save you all the trouble of looking him up yourself:

I love Nader's work in the consumer protection arena, but he needs to stay out of politics.
