How Does This Happen?

Lemme see -- Dems take over Congress in 2006 and in 2007, well, they accomplish exactly dick.

What began as a troubling year for Bush, facing a new, energetic Democratic Congress, ended in triumph for the president as frustrated Democrats nursed their losses. Democrats failed in their No. 1 objective to stop the war in Iraq and bowed to Bush and his veto threats on tax policies, energy legislation, children's health insurance and general spending.

Man, it is so frustrating. Dems have no backbone at all. Newsflash: if you pass a bill that funds our troops but Bush vetoes it because it contains a non-binding timetable for withdrawal, Bush is the one standing in the way. That's the story. Grow a sac. Sheesh.

They have to get over this fear of Bush vetoing a bill. Let him do it, it is not your responsibility to buckle every fucking time because Bush threatens a veto. Bush refuses any sort of compromise, and the Dems capitulate. It's so frustrating.
it is not your responsibility to buckle every fucking time because Bush threatens a veto.
no truer words have been said...now could you find a way to shout that out into every f^*king democrats ear so they may at least hear the point...god damn pussies! :(

Re: How Does This Happen?

...and the kicker is that it's not like they are bowing to a guy that everyone loves and respects. 65% of this country is comprised of people whose impression of Bush varies between "doing a bad job" and "evil incarnate" and they think it's politically risky to stand up to him. It's maddening.

I just found out a few hours ago that Sen. McCaskill is going to be at our firm Christmas party tomorrow. Have to keep the liquor in check, as I'm liable to give her a piece of my mind otherwise...

Re: How Does This Happen?

End of second term with a Democratic Congress and a Republican administration is unfortunately a recipe prone to stagnation, imo...

Re: How Does This Happen?

I think it comes down to the Democrats not wanting to change the course to win the Presidency in '08. Currently, Bush has very low approval ratings and the Democratic candidate whether Hillary or Obama would win the general election.

If the Democrats voted against a spending bill to support the troops, then Republicans and Bush would attack the Democrats for being too soft on terrorism and may cause the public to actually reverse the public's disapproval of the way the war is being run.

Or it could be quite simply, the Democrats being spineless and have no base.

Would agree with Superdave The dems are playing 08 real tight which could be their undoing This has to be the weakest field of presidential candidates that I can remember.

Re: How Does This Happen?

bush is retarded, but democrats as a whole seem to make shit worse every time they gain an inch. i would love to wake up the day after the election, and see that someone like kucinich won, that way, everyone will be confused and actually pay attention.
