Honestly, this is just absurd. Was this taken at a family reunion before they all hopped in their vans to go to Six Flags?

wow, didn't catch that. And here I was thinking that the elbow pads were the most under-appreciated element in this photo.
Re: Why You Shouldn't Vote for Mike Huckabee
I've heard the Democrats want him to be the Republican candidate so they can expose him for being a religious quack. Because of that, he would be easier to defeat than Giuliani or Romney.
That strategy could backfire though because this country's full of religious people.
Re: Why You Shouldn't Vote for Mike Huckabee
heard the same thing dave...that democrats are actually helping campaign in new hampshire for huckabee. lol. dunno if i believe that, since i have to think their time would be better spent doing some sort of productive campaigning for their own candidate, but, this is politics in america, nothing would surprise me.

This is a 100% right, there are tons of liberal commentators talking about how easy Huckabee would be to beat: Check this out from Bill Press, which for some odd reason was on WorldNetDaily.com:
In 1998, for example, Gov. Huckabee was one of 131 signatories on a full-page USA Today ad endorsing a controversial position on the role of women in marriage adopted by the Southern Baptist Convention. The SBC policy declared: "A wife is to submit herself graciously to the servant leadership of her husband even as the church willingly submits to the headship of Christ." In turn, the ad Huckabee signed congratulated the SBC: "You are right because you called wives to graciously submit to their husband's sacrificial leadership."
and
In 1998, Gov. Huckabee also told a gathering of pastors in Salt Lake City that, even though he was involved in politics, he didn't think government could solve our problems. "The real answers lie in accepting Jesus Christ into our lives," declared the self-described "Christian leader." Our goal, said Huckabee, is clear: "I hope we answer the alarm clock and take this nation back for Christ."
Take the nation back for Christ? You're right that there are a lot of religious people in this country, but there are plenty of religious people that still believe in the separation of church and state, and I think language like this goes too far for most. He has some very, very traditional beliefs, and I suspect that as people learn more about him, his "aww shucks" manner isn't going to be enough to get people excited about having another evangelist in office. FFS, he believes the world is 6000 years old. That's madness. He might win the GOP nom, but no way does he win a general election.
In my opinion, he's Guiliani's best friend right now. Guiliani has made no effort to win Iowa or New Hampshire, whereas Romney, his biggest rival, has thrown all of his eggs in these two baskets. Romney has to win Iowa, but could lose to Huckabee. Even if Huckabee wins New Hampshire, Rudy wasn't banking on that state, either -- but Romney will be toast. The problem Huck is going to have is that he has no infrastructure in place anywhere other than Iowa. He's starting to get it going now, but he raised something like $1M last quarter -- as things move towards Super Tuesday, he's going to get outspent by a wide margin and doesn't have the staff to do what Guiliani can do.
Who knows, maybe McCain will eke it out in NH )if Huckabee wins Iowa and Romney slides) and rekindle his chances. Things on the GOP side are so wide open. The only thing that is certain, IMO, is that if Romney loses in Iowa, he's all but done.
My opinion, FWIW...

Another article on why Dems want Huckabee to win the nomination, entitled "Huckacide:"

Re: Why You Shouldn't Vote for Mike Huckabee
I agree with your point Toasty that a majority of discerning people that are sick of Bush's self proclaimed evangelism and will vote for a separation of church and state candidate. However, some religious people would still vote for Bush or Huckabee regardless.
If I remember right, didn't Bush Sr. want Clinton to run against him in the '92 election? I agree with the Democrats that they would do well against Huckabee, but wishing for your opponent can sometimes work against you as it did in '92.
I think at this point, Giuliani and Romney don't necessarily need to win Iowa and New Hampshire, but do well enough to stay in the race long term and get to the states where they can pull ahead.
Re: Why You Shouldn't Vote for Mike Huckabee
Apropos of my previous comments, I stumbled upon this article this morning:
GOP pollster Tony Fabrizio estimates that half of Republican voters are evangelical or born again. These voters can run the party but only in coalition with others. If they go it alone, they end up isolating themselves. And while they have come a long way--which is why this time their favorite candidate has been a Governor and not only a preacher--they haven't come far enough to guarantee Huckabee the nomination. They could end up instead handing the GOP to Giuliani--probably the last thing they want.
I agree with you that Guiliani can lose Iowa and continue because he hasn't made it a part of his strategy at all. Romney, though, has invested so much in Iowa and relies upon it so much to propel him forward in other states, I can't see a situation where he loses Iowa and wins the nomination.

Re: Why You Shouldn't Vote for Mike Huckabee
Any candidate has to a majority of south. They will vote for one of their own before a Northerner. As for Huckabee, another fraud who must not promote a physically active lifestyle for his two sons. Arugablly, though his family does look to represent middle america.
