Disturbing poll

In a poll released today, it appears that the majority of voters this year will be basing their votes on the personal qualities of the candidate rather than the issues. What a sad statement. We're faced with one of the most important elections of our day where there really are important issues facing the country, and most Americans will be voting based upon something so superficial.

Regardless of what the outcome is, I sincerely hope people will put some thought into this. I know the people on this board (at least the vocal ones) do...

Please, voters are always voting on things that are superficial. Things are no different this election then they have ever been before.

^^ I know, but I would hope, in light of the gravity of the issues that are currently before us, that voters would exercise some fucking thought.

That is a pipedream, I know, but it is just disheartening to know how little thought some people put into this...

And the fact that their vote counts just as much as those who do give a shit makes it even more disheartening.

We have 2 people, each is pretty much worthless. As far as I'm concerned any way. In the long run, it doesn't matter who gets elected, thus how people decide who they vote for is quite irrelevant. To me of course.

I don't think you're right my friend. Things have never been this bad (not in the last 30 years) economically, socailly, and with regards to foreign policy. It'll be an absolute disaster if the lies the media is feeding people allow for another stolen Bush election. Kerry may not be your favorite candidate, but I assure the policies are VERY different. Also I've found very disinterested/uninformed viewpoints on this site with regards to politics. Where are the open-minded democrats??

:FuckOff:

Still with this...

Right next to the open minded republicans! I'd say all things considered this board is pretty good when it comes to political discussion. You've some who don't have a clue but talk like they do, and some who are very informed and like everyone to know it - but you get those anywhere. The majority here seem to be pretty even about it, you get the occasional name calling and a thread gets out of hand once in a while, but for the most part the discussions are kept civil and both sides respect the other's opinion. Hope it stays that way.

I think most everyone here on the board is open minded, no matter where their political leanings lie. Go look at my post on the 'Political Compass' thread, seems I'm actually a bit left. And yet, I still stand by the fact that both candidates suck. They just suck like the vacuum of space. If I really felt the affinity most on this board feel, and had to choose, I wouldn't hesitate to choose Bush as the lesser of the two evils. But only lesser by such an insignificant margin, that it can't be measured. And also because his daughters are better looking and not spoiled little brats that remind me of the Hilton sisters. Oh and Theresa certainly doesn't help Kerry either.

Open minded? In what sense? What does being open minded have to do with wanting to take home more of your OWN money and not be in favor of REDISTRIBUTING WEALTH? What does it have to do with rewarding big companies(aka 'the rich') with tax breaks...because they are the ones creating the most jobs, along with small business(who recieve exclusive tax breaks also)? What does it have to do with supporting a muscular defense system, and very offensive and aggressive position on fighting terrorism so FOREIGNERS CANT KILL INNONCENT AMERICANS? What does open minded have to do with reforming welfare so it forces people to be ambitious and doesnt allow complacent mothers of 20 to make a living off taxpayers? Open minded is looking at a cloud in the sky and seeing an ostrich. Its trying everything twice. Its trying not to assume your girlfriend is fucking her coworker shes 'just going out for drinks with'! How does open minded have anything to do with implementing policies that protect our country, that dont let lazy fucks get by with a free ride, that dont allow a BLACK male get into a college because most students are WHITE and it doesnt look good for their image.

Im a realist, in a volitile world. Im open minded about MUSIC, and everything else, EXCEPT POLITICS>

Re: Disturbing poll

People do unfortunately vote, hire, date, etc. on superficial qualities. Clinton won over women voters because of his charisma. Bush may win due to his perceived toughness on terrorism.

But, don't confuse "gut instinct" with baseless opinions. As I've gotten older, my gut instinct has done me well in evaluating people.

Btw, I don't like someone using johndigweed as their member name either. Kinda of sacrilegious on the MS board. However, johndigweed don't take this as a personal attack. I appreciate your opinions on the board although I don't agree with them.
